Loved the opening to this issue, Don, Yolanda Montez is a brilliant character to use, and the description of the voice made her out to be a sultry personality, and we hadn’t even met her at that point! Very nice, man.
And the introduction of the new Crimson Avenger was very well done, an eerie moment of quietness, ritualistic in it’s beauty. I really enjoyed that. “Suiting up” scenes can go either way, from corny to epic in this almost religious sense, and you were well on the epic side of the spectrum.
Do you want me to actually say anything about Skyman? Come on. Honestly. I love the character, this is who he was supposed to be, and you’re using him fantastically, and I’m loving the hints of their continuing catch-up with the world, that it’s not a simple act of “Oh, we’re in the 21st Century, let’s adapt!”, but a slow burning thing.
The Dragons are quite interesting, but I don’t have a real grasp on them yet, but I’m sure their characters will develop as the series continues, I have faith in you for that! They’re some smug sonsofabitches though, that’s for sure… funny though!
I’m continuing to enjoy Justin, the Shining Knight has always been a character I have a soft spot for, though it was built up through Ystin (sp?) from Morrisoon’s 7 Soldiers event. The concept is just… simple. And yet it works so well wherever applied.
Pat Dugan is getting pushed around a bit too much for my liking, and this series of events might not be the best for him, but is another new hero going to join their ranks? Maybe a new Star Spangled Kid? I’m all a quiver with anticipation! Though not literally. Eww.
Vigilante, as ever, is presented as one of the strongest characters on the entire site, as with all the western heroes in the DC2. Susan and yourself are doing strong work, and he’s continuing to be a fun old guy to use. I’m a fan of his again from 7 Soldiers, but also from the Parobeck drawn Vigilante series, where he guest starred early on in the run. So you’re continuing to please me with his presentation.
I have to say, the plotting is tight, and the dialogue crisp (and Green Arrow! Woo!), but I can’t help but feel something is missing from this book, and I feel stupid for saying that without being able to put my finger on it. I’ll be back next issue, as the Seven Soldiers of Victory continue to be one of the best written teams on the site, up there with your Justice League and near on-par with New Outsiders! Continue the good work, and the book will get better with every issue!

Fantastic work, and I'm looking forward to seeing how all these plot threads pay off. I really liked the use of the radio show to show the time passing, and introduce Yolanda-- did a lot of work in a concise amount of time and it set a great mood too for each of those scenes. I love Justin still, and the Crimson Avenger part was excellent. Lots going on and lots of neat questions left to be answered. I can't wait =)

Well I totally geeked out with the Yolanda scene's. A character that I've loved for a while now. I agree with Sam that the radio program was a beautiful transition piece. Very well done. Cover was awesome and I am really looking forward to the next issue.

I'm going to toss in my reactions to this issue even though I'm completely biased through being involved.
I kind of know where Don is going with this but not really. He's given me an outline of where the series is going but its still very vague to allow him to plot as the series evolves. So, when I get his manuscript to edit every month, its just as much a surprise to me as it is to you normal readers. There is quite a difference between seeing "X dies" (oops! did I give something way or am I just kidding?) and reading it in the full prose.
I have to say that the White and Red Dragons were done extremely well. The fight between White Dragon and Skyman in the abandoned factory was the high point of the issue for me. Simply because WD was extremely smart and played the cocky Slyvester into getting so overconfident that he didn't see what he was really doing. It wasn't power v. power, WD used the environment to handle the fight for him. This is not a man you want to fight when he has planned ahead.
Red Dragon I just liked on a whole 'nother level. He's the kid in every one of us that wished they had superpowers and suddenly did. The "holy crap this is cool" personality and posing. You have to figure that Wyrd Indigo sent him because he was the least experienced of the Dragons but even he was perfectly suited to counter Shining Knight because he wasn't going to provoke a fight. He probably knew he was outclassed but really was just there to delay Justin with a pseudo-threat while someone else did the dirty work.
The scene with Pat and his granddaughter just didn't do anything for me. However, I'm also going to say that it was brief and the implications of it is probably going to be of greater significance as the series goes on.
Which brings us to Yolanda and Vigilante. I'm very excited to see how this mentor angle works out for Greg. I think the gift of the bike was more of a statement of trust rather than a bribe on his behalf and I'm not buying the "I'm too old for this sort of thing" talk. And drawing Yolanda is easy on the old eyes. I just curse Don's art notes that didn't let me draw a skin-tight bodysuit ;D
I'm happy to see the Crimson Avenger make a "comeback" and I'll be very interested to see how Don brings him back and how Wing is going to handle all this. Interesting to see Green Arrow stick around and that was vintage Ollie for his reason. Still just can't help feeling sorry for poor Keith though. Life can be cruel.
And I would NOT want to be Blue Dragon when a very "perturbed" Knight gets ahold of him.

Yolanda is very fun! The purple haired woman could be a problem, though.
And I hope Knight's wife is alive!
Good stuff.

Good stuff all-around, but I found the parts with Wing a little bumpy, like I missed something. I think we needed a bit more introducing on that part before tossing him into the fray. Otherwise, I loved it. Digging the Vig and Yolanda scenes (and even though Greg says he's too old, we all know he'll always find an excuse to play cowboy "just one more time"!), and I thought the radio clues were clever -- you made me go back and re-read them once I reached the end!
