An interesting premise, Im, and well delivered too. This is some sharp work on your part, and I remember being shown bits and pieces late last year, so it's nice to finally see this come out. I'm not normally a big fan of "heroes without their identities!" stories, but this had a nice spin on it, so what the hey, I'll roll with it.
When I first started talking to you about it though, I felt you didn't have any real... investment in the series, like you came up with the idea and felt that you had to write it simply "because. I have to say, if that point still stands now, it doesn't show! You deliver nice characterisation for some familiar characters, some interesting developments begin to show themselves, and that cover was really good, so all in all a cool package! Just reminds me that I have to go back and check out the last few issues of Nightwing that I've not read! Terrible shame that, but I've fallen behind on most of my reading!
I'll be back next time...

You have no idea. I'm not normally a big fan of "heroes without their identities!" stories, but this had a nice spin on it, so what the hey, I'll roll with it. Thanks. And yes, you do that. Thank you on two counts-- I seem to remember your help with one of the characters. Just reminds me that I have to go back and check out the last few issues of Nightwing that I've not read! Terrible shame that, but I've fallen behind on most of my reading! I'll be back next time... Ach, yes, shame. And glad to hear that.

I do have to say a HUGE thanks to Jay, though, who's been incredibly patient since we started this thing in what, late August, early September? Thanks, pal.

Me, patient with you, Batkid? Au contraire, you're the one who has been patient with me.
I owe Batkid a huge, huge apology. Aside from spellcheck and the lightest of polishings, Duty Bound #1 has been done for months. What was lacking was the cover. The first cover vanished into the ether. and finding a replacement was.....well, let's just say there's even more gray in my hair now than there was before. Time for another dye job. I've already secured an artist for #2, to avoid this nightmare again.
And of course, the story itself is awesomeness.

A very nice beginning here. This is the kind of Elseworld tale that I really enjoy reading. Heroes set in different times, doing things they wouldn't normally do.
There were a couple of moments that made me scratch my head in puzzlement, but then I rationalized them away and everything was fine.
I hope that down the line we might see even more pathos when it comes to Clark's predicament, as well as the others. Really get to know what's going on in their heads.
And I say down the line because I'm truly sold on this book and plan to read it until the end. Between the terrific writing and the gorgeous cover, I'll definitely be back.

When I first read the premise, you got my attention. After reading Titans: Resistance month after month, I've really gotten hooked on the "superheroes at war" idea, and was looking forward to this story....which makes what follows hard to say.
The story feels glossed over, like there's parts missing. In places where you could have said more and had some great character stuff, we get nothing. Plus I'd gone into this with the notion that this would be the DC of the 1940s (pre-retcons, of course, so we can have Supes and Bats), yet there's Batgirl and Supergirl sitting in on a JLA meeting -- I thought that last part was a typo at first, but it doesn't appear to be -- and at one point I caught a reference to Hal. That threw me out of it before we'd barely started. And though the characters obviously can't act like full-on superheroes in their civilian identities, I would still think that it would come through to some degree. For the most part, they're near-generic: there's only a few references to Clark's abilities to remind you that you're reading about Superman, not Joe Schmoe...and sometimes when he does use them (like eavesdropping on Bruce's conversation with their C.O.) they barely make a difference (he heard the word "coma" and stopped listening after that?)
I wanted to give this a low rating, but I gave you 4 stars for the premise and for the few parts I thought played well. I'll be back for #2, but I'm not sure how many after that.

Jay, you owe no apology. I'M sorry. Now, zip it! Thank you, Brian, glad you're enjoying it thus far. I'm really liking writing them in the 40's during the war. All the 'what if's' of it intrigue me. Thanks for reading, Susan. I'm stretching it a bit with Supergirl and Batgirl in the JLA meeting, maybe, but I think that during this time having them in is reasonable, considering that how many mystery men behind the masks have been drafted and are leaving. A serious issue. And, as it is dealing mainly with the soldiers, I wanted to have a stronger female presence in the story. I look forward to having you back next month for number two and hope you enjoy it.

Issue #2 was just as fun as the first one. Some really nice moments here. I laughed when Bruce asked Superman how long and was answered with, "We're here." ;D What I really like, though, is the way Dick is being written in this Elseworld story. It's been so long since our Boy Wonder has been this young that I had forgotten how innocent he used to be. Well done with reminding us of the Robin of yester year. If there was one thing that I would have to mention, it is that I'm not quite sure yet where the main story is actually going. I haven't got a sense of the main plot that is driving this well written story. Still, it's a fun read and I'll be back next month. Grippin cover as well, btw!
