Brilliant! Loved the concept of the haunted guns, makes perfect sense in regards to what we've read of the Crimson Avenger here and in the DCUproper, and the kiss--- it made me laugh and squick at exactly the same time! Lots of awesome moments, but that ending, the culmination of all the threats we've seen the Seven Soldiers face already... combined into one horrifying individual?! The body of a friend, the mind of a villain, and the haunted weapons of an ally?! Bravo, Don! Great issue!

Awesome issue! This team is coming together very organically--- I especially like the new additions of Gimmick and La Garra, and Green Arrow just seems so right for some reason... . The two mysteries of the Crimson Avenger and the Dragon Queen are dovetailing in a very interesting way (I love this concept of the Avenger, and how you are filling in an origin story DC has left sorta vague). It was fun to see the flashback to 1942, and get a glimpse into the machinations of the Queen--- not to mention a look at the Soldiers in their prime. And what a cliffhanger ending! Looking forward to seeing how the Soldiers get themselves out of this one. If I wasn't already hooked on this series, that fantastic homage cover by the inimitable Jamie Rimmer would have demanded my attention. The showdown between the Soldiers and the Dragons is perfectly captured here! Five stars, fellas! See you next month!

Thanks a lot guys, it's nice to hear such flowing praise from the stars of the site. I'm glad the cliffhanger is having the impact it should, this has been a moment I've been looking forward to revealing since I started this initial arc. I'm also glad that you're enjoying the new girls, Dave. I'm pretty happy with them too, and we'll definitely be looking deeper into their personalities and backgrounds in issues to come. And as for Green Arrow, I'd keep him on permanently if I could, but as we know, he's got his own very important agenda to settle right now. Rest assured, he'll be back in time, and maybe for a good long stay. And maybe the Soldiers will get to return the favor to him in his mission down the road (you think, maybe at some point, Brian? ). As for Crimson Avenger, again, glad to hear you like the story behind the guns and how the identity will be working. We'll get some more background on Wing and his network, rest assured. Lots more to come. Hang on for the exciting ride. And on the Avenger front: Lee's serial from DC2 Showcase will pick up here next issue as a back-up feature, so don't you worry...his first adventure WILL be completed. Thanks for the praise, and see you all in thirty! Take care Don

And a last comment I wanted to make and forgot to, duh!
While I love Jamie's art as much as the next guy, Dave, this is actually Joey Jarin producing another most excellent cover for this series. He's done the title proud, and here's hoping we can get him back soon. You're absolutely right though, it does pop, and does a fantastic job of giving tribute to one of the artistic greats of the industry.
Take care Don

oh wow! What a twist =D what an ending! What suspense! This is an incredible story, Don, and you make it shine. I love seeing Justin and Danette together, and I can't wait to see them happy again-- they have to get back to the status quo right? RIGHT? XD
Greg is just a jewel in your hands. You write him to be so much fun, easy-going but quite the threat when he needs to be. And I love the thought of the haunted guns, and it's just heartwrenching to see where they are now. I can't wait to see the ending!

Lots of good moments here. I like Gimmick a lot, she makes me think of Carrie Kelly from Dark Kngiht Returns with her enthusiasm and the way she surprises the "old fogies". And Vig is hiding a gas mask under his kerchief? Brilliant!
The drawback was the unevenness of the storytelling -- this is sadly becoming common when I read this book -- there are a few parts where it feels like I missed a line somewhere. The real puzzlement is our new Crimson Avenger. I know of this variation from DCU, of course, but when Lee's spirit appeared in the last couple issues, he left just as soon as vengeance was served. Now it seems like he (or she, if you prefer) is sticking around for longer, not to mention dressing for battle (gun holsters under the coat, for example). Is the vengeance in her case incomplete? Or is Lee making an effort after his previous contact with Wing to hold onto this body and get back into the fight?

Yeah, Gimmick is fun to write, a breath of fresh air, and I think her and Yolanda will offer up some fun sparks for the older members of the family.
Sorry to hear the story was uneven and it detracted from the enjoyment. There are a lot of pieces to be put into place and to give the Soldiers storytelling room for the future. Don't anyone assume that the Crimson Avenger from the DCU is the one you're seeing here. You haven't missed a line...there's a lot of mystery to be found in the guns and Lee's spirit. We've heard Wing's side of the story, and we've seen one appearance in previous issues (from two different points of view, but still just one appearance), so don't assume that we've seen all there is to see about the story of the Crimson Avenger. There's a lot not yet revealed that the heroes have to uncover here. Even descriptions change from appearance to appearance (scarlet cloak on Keith, regular duster for the female). I hope you can stick it out and come to enjoy what's being uncovered, slowly, bit by bit.
Take care Don

Ah, silly me jumping to conclusions. I thought perhaps we were seeing CA in his/her new, permanent form. I'll sit tight until it's over and enjoy the ride.

It's taken me a while to get to it, but this issue was well worth the wait! I have to agree that this team is coming together very naturally and it feels perfect. Every character was dead on (especially Green Arrow) and yes, check for a very special visitor in the pages of this month's GA. Beautiful cover as well. All in all, a 5 star story with an ending that makes me think 30 days is WAY too long!

This issue, and the Green Arrow story, this is where it all starts, another collaboration that I'm very excited to see bear fruit in the near future. Glad you enjoyed, Brian, and glad I could do your Ollie justice. He's just a breeze to write for.
Take care Don
