awww, Justin and Danette are just never going to stop making me sappy, are they? A great ending to a fantastic storyline. I loved Lee getting another moment to shine. And I loved Ollie's comment about vampires XD everyone gets their shining moment and it all wraps up so well-- i'll always be in awe of your ability to keep track of so many plot threads and characters and weave them all seamlessly together.

Whoa. A lot to process in this issue, but worth the little extra bit of effort to process. Don, it's said a lot, but you have a way with continuity, a way of finding the little bit of history worth mining for the readers of today, and this issue... woof. Dragon Queen is... scary. And I love it. You've got a way with villains, as demonstrated here, and with your Justice League run. It's admirable, and inspiring.
Reading the Crimson Avenger back up, I'm saddened to think of how DC2 Showcase crashed again (each time we get a few more issues in-- and then falter) but I like the idea of this book having a back-up, and yes, certainly one as thrilling as the serial you're delivering with CA! I hope that maybe we can get some other "Untold Tales of the 7SoV" down the line? The highest praise I can think to give right now is that reading this book reminds me, in a loose way, of "Agents of Atlas" over at Marvel, the only team-book I enjoy reading from that company now.
Sorry for the confusing feedback earlier, I hope this is more eloquent, and I'll be back next month! Oh, and Joe? That is one hell of a cover, so much energy and awesomeness just dripping from the brilliant collaboration of line and colour. Awesome.

Taken me a while to read this, but there was no doubt that I would. From Susan to Don, this book is pure comic fun.
I wish I could keep so many threads juggling and then bring them together in such a beautiful tapestry as you do. Envious is but one word to describe it.
And I'll second Charlie's comment about your work with the villains! This one was down right frightening.
Excellent work here. Awesome cover! Kudos!!!

Such a great group of comments, let's take them one at a time. Sam, you can just bet that Danette and Justin will be seeing their fair share of distress, turmoil and difficulties as each adjusts to the modern day, but yeah, rest assured, as we've seen here, their love is strong and will show often enough to keep my sap quotient up. The story of Lee and his haunted guns will continue, and we'll see the resolution to some ongoing mysteries involving him, Wing and reaching back into the past with Claudia, rest assured. And yeah, Ollie can get some good ones off when he wants to. Glad you brought him up, because he's...well, glad you liked the conclusion, it did seem to come together pretty well. Yeah, gotta agree, Charlie, this was a rather tricky ride to navigate, especially at the start. Glad to see you thought it was worth it though, because there was a lot of stuff going on that I'm rather proud to have gotten out. More Dragon Queen will be seen in the past with the Danger Trail, so keep an eye out for her there. And maybe we'll see here here...Wyrm Indigo isn't done though, not by a long shot, nor her Nefarious Dragons, you can count on that! There will be more back-ups for the Seven Soldiers, I think. I've nothing planned for now (well, aside from "The Lost Cast of the Crimson Avenger, that's not a back-up but one of the stories I've got planned for the team...oh, um, right, back-ups, get to talking on those) but I do like the idea, and some solo adventures for the team in their heyday. Yeah, it's quite likely there will be more. And from what I've heard of Agents of Atlas, that there is some mighty fine praise indeed, thanks! And the cover was just amazing! Color and power indeed, Joey realized my nugget of an idea (continuing on the homage to the great X-Men covers of the past from the previous issue) beautifully. Thanks, Joey! And Brian, I'm pushed to the juggling of storylines and development of real threats by your masterful work in New Outsiders, so it's great to hear you say such good things. I'm glad you're having fun with this, that's the goal after all. We both work so hard on the same elements, it's almost like we should have some kind of super-hero exchange between these two groups, it's just a shame I can't think of anyone with any connection to any of your Outsiders. heh (yes, and for those readers between lines, that's a warning to keep an eye out there) Next month, a new threat to the team, a new threat to Danette and Justin, and the new members settle in, so can't wait to see you back soon. Take care Don

Fantastic ending to this arc, Don. Loved the Dragon Queen's involvement, and the revelation of Wyrm Indigo's origin (seems the Danger Trail is never too far from Our Heroes' path)! Loved what you did with the new Avenger, and you've really given Gimmick and La Garra distinct voices. Very much looking forward to seeing where the team goes from here. Speaking of team, from Susan's Golden Age founding incarnation of Vigilante, Shining Knight, Crimson Avenger, Star-Spangled Kid, Stripe, Firebrand and Spider (not to mention Stuff and Wing) we have a natural evolution to Vigilante, Shining Knight, Firebrand, Skyman, Stripe, Gimmick, La Garra and Wing--- with Green Arrow and the new Crimson Avenger as reserves? Seems to me like the Seven Soldiers always had a tough time with counting ! Wouldn't change a thing, though! Who's sticking around, and can we expect a more traditional team status quo in this title (I know we could if Syl has his way...!)? Fabulous cover by the increasingly impressive Joey Jarin. Just love seeing your vibrant, energetic work, Joe! Five stars, fellas! (I will be catching up with the Golden Age Crimson Avenger flashback feature seperately and soon-ish!)

Thanks a lot, David, it's always great to hear one of the big names of the site come in and be so complimentary. I'm happy to keep you coming back for more entertainment, especially with characters I really enjoy writing. And Wyrm Indigo's origin also hints, I'm sure, that we've not seen the last of her despite her apparent demise here. And we've seen one Mom take on the Soldiers; think the other could be far behind?
From my very first contact with the Soldiers, in JLA #100-102, I've loved the fact that these guys just can't count at all. They never hit Seven Soldiers, and it's kind of liberating to make it a running gag in a way, just keeping their numbers bouncing.
I'm not sure if we'll ever see a more stable organizational structure. It's not what the Soldiers are about. They have a similarity to the JSA in a way, but rather than being a large social club/apprenticeship academy, the Soldiers are a family, and a small unit of survivors instead, adding to their numbers by more family. But who knows? As you point out, Syl loves to play with his hierarchies, organizational tables and charters.
Joey's covers are amazing, so vibrant, so vivid, so dynamic! Thanks a lot, Joey, for all your good work, it's been a pleasure, sir.
Take care Don

okay, almost a half year later than everybody else I have arrived at this point. When I started reading this arc I was at first a little bit unsure, because on the one hand the delay (the implied months passed between the mini and the ongoing) was a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. The characters felt somehow new to me, even though I just had read the mini a few days before the new arc where Don took over. I mean it's done often in the real comics, but here somehow for me it was like I learned to know somebody and then he moved away and I met him a half year later...his life has moved on, my life has moved on, we don't really know each other really anymore... BUT! when you introduced the new members you also used that chance to re-introduce the old members at the same time and that was a good thing. I especially like Wing and his connection to the Avenger. The Crimson Avanger, although moved on from this plane of existance, is still a part of the Soldiers, and I really REALLY liked that. He turns into one of my favorite Soldiers. It's great how you can build up on history and I really look forward to the next issues.
Now something what I didn't like so much in this arc: I have never read about the Dragon Society before. You told me that you used them in your Danger Trail stories, but for me the villains felt flat here. The first 3 issues of the arc we see the dragons (very Power-Rangers like - very strange) but don't really learn much about them. Only the Red Dragon fire guy we know that he is the grandson of the original. The others??? Who are they? Wyrm Indigo managed to become an interesting character in this final issue of the arc, but before that she was just... there. At least for me she wasn't really a threat...
BUT! I really liked the way you turned Dannette into the Dragon Queen. Okay, it's nothing new that one of the good guys is possessed and turns to the big bad, but I really liked how you made it work. And that Lee returned to save her in the end. So, as sorry as I am, I can only give you 4 of 5 stars.
I had no time to read the Crimson Avanger stories in the DC2 Showcase so far, but this will be the next thing I will read before I continue with the Soldiers. Good work. You have me hooked.

Thanks for keeping up reading the Law's Legionnaires, Boris. Your comments are appreciated. The idea of separating about a half a year of time was for several little reasons, but ultimately, the two big reasons were to give some sense of closure for Susan's initial story, and to buy me some separation from it; and to achieve that sense of having to catch back up with the team. That's why their initial appearances in my first issue were all so mundane. I'm glad it worked, and I'm glad the technique of bringing in the new characters to help restore connection to the older characters worked out, that's a tricky one, and I really didn't want the vets being outshone.
It was that risk of outshining the main cast that had me limit the knowledge of the Nefarious Dragons. Wyrm Indigo's story builds up slowly over the course of the arc, and I give a nice tip of the hat to Shining Knight's old foe Red Dragon (the inspiration for the multi-colored dragon group) with a legacy there, but I really didn't want to suffer the superhero movie syndrome of having the villains overtake the heroes' spotlights. I did try to give them some decent powers and dangerous skills, as well as solid personalities, but I'll have to get deeper into who they each are over time, and amp up their danger level in your eyes. I know where you're coming from, but I was kind of indulging in the notion that I'll be writing many issues, and have plenty of time to unravel the inscrutable Dragons over the course of many events. That technique maybe didn't get pulled off so well.
I'm very happy to see you react so well to Wing, and to Lee and his new state, and to the threat of a possessed Firebrand. I really enjoyed the visuals I was working with, and it's good to see that got across, and that Indigo picked up for you at the end there. She's not done with, not by a far sight.
Glad you're enjoying the series enough to make it past the parts that don't grab you to find the good stuff.
Take care Don
