Flying solo this issue, not that Parker wasn't raring to go, but I'm keeping him ready for our big story arc beginning next issue, "Doomsdays", which runs from Action Comics #18 to #19, and concludes in Adventures of Superman Annual #1, not to be confused with Action Comics Annual #2, which will be joining us sooner rather than later. Last time I spoke to the writer, he was putting the finishing touches to it! Now it's just a case of catching us both online at the same time! So look forward to that. It seems that when it comes to Superman, I can't write Superman. I have to bring in guest stars. And I guess, to an extent, that's true. I love writing Superman, when I write him, but sometimes I struggle with finding his voice. And I don't like how he's unstoppable, so I take him down a peg or two. Or five. Or ten, if we're counting broken fingers (that one was for you, Scott!)! BUT don't worry! Next issue, the ACTION kicks into high gear! I hope you've enjoyed the mysteries we've been laying down here. But don't think we haven't got more lined up. What did John Henry Irons do for a year when he was recuperating? Hint: He built something. Who are after the Guardian? Hint: It ties into a big old event less than two months away. Who is Caesar? Hint: His nemesis has already appeared before in the DC2, and he will appear again in a showdown to end all magical show downs... I went off on one, didn't I? Anyway, the closing scenes of the main story will hopefully leaving you saying: "WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED?!" And if you're as big a fan as I am of the superbly written back up ESCAPE TO KRYPTON by Roy Flinchum, you'll get a cliffhanger to end all cliffhangers (Bar Action Comics #18 and #19 ) that leads into the final installement! But don't worry... Krypton Square will return soon... If it survives DOOMSDAY!

You have gotten me so involved with Steel and Guardian, more Guardian then Steel. I thought the poker scene with Caesar and Lightray was funny. But I think that you got me with the romance. I love the couplings that you have brought together. Just call you the match maker. I know I got to re-read the Rip Hunter story again.
I like the changes you did. I would of prefer to have seen more of Caesar but I'll defer to your wisdom and judgement.
Guardian is looking to be a favorite of mine now thanks to you Charlie.
More comments to come later.

The biggest problem I'm having with Action Comics these days is that Superman is not in his own book! Sure, Clark made a surprise appearance at the end (out of the blue, but it was a doozy), but I don't read AC for Rip Hunter, the Guardian, Caesar (?!?) or Steel... I WANT MORE SUPERMAN!
Actually, while I enjoyed the "Marvel Zombies" approach in Rip's story, I'm not sure how it fit into the rest of the story. In fact, it felt like this section could have been removed and the issue would have worked just as well. It feels like the main thread of the story is actually the Guardian's--- is this an opening shot of the big summer event called "Justice League vs. America"...?
The assassination scene guarantees I will be back next issue.
I have to admit, the cover is what hooked me on this issue. I just had to see what that was all about...! Maybe that story deserved to be a one-shot all it's own...?
Incidentally, I really enjoyed this installment of "Krypton Square", making this issue a regular tour de force for Roy Flinchum. The Guardian feels a little like a DC Captain America here, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nice cliffhanger! I will be back to see how this concludes, and am looking forward to reading more from our versatile Mr. Flinchum!

I have a huge confession to make. Rip Hunter is probably my least favorite character in the entire DC Universe. He always has been. I'm sorry, I just never liked the character or concept. That being said, this was alright for a Superman book that had absolutley nothing to do with Superman. Actually, this feels like it would have worked perfectly as a Showcase issue. I LOVE what's going on between Lois and John. It really is what's keeping me reading this. Well, that and Roy's stuff has been doing great things. This wasn't a bad issue for what it was, it just seems like DC2 know longer has a Superman book.

Sure, Clark made a surprise appearance at the end (out of the blue, but it was a doozy), but I don't read AC for Rip Hunter, the Guardian, Caesar (?!?) or Steel... I WANT MORE SUPERMAN!This wasn't a bad issue for what it was, it just seems like DC2 know longer has a Superman book. Do not despair! I realise that what we're doing right now isn't what people wanted, but next month, the crap hits the fan in more ways than one, and after this issue's cliffhanger, the return, or death, of Superman cannot be far away! I'm sure you all know which one we're headed towards. That being said, this experiment, whilst not being everyone cup of tea, has worked in more ways than one. I think that we've really fleshed out Superman's supporting cast, and them viable as major characters in their own right. The next ten issues? We promise that the Man of Steel will be at the front and centre, beginning with Action Comics Annual #2, and Action Comics #20! Upwards and onwards, my pretties! Yes indeed, Dave! All across the DC2, the wheels have been set in motion; and, just like last year, every issue of our second major event will rock your socks off! The Guardian is wanted by the government! Follow his story next issue! I LOVE what's going on between Lois and John. It really is what's keeping me reading this. Well, that and Roy's stuff has been doing great things. ESCAPE TO KRYPTON! is an amazing piece of work from Roy, and look out for it to be rereleased some time in the future, for anyone who doesn't read Action Comics to get a full on glimpse of the story, with cover and interior art! Roy's blown me away every time he sends in the pages, and I cannot believe that as well as him being an artist, he's also an amazing writer! Lois and John is a relationship that will keep developing, and will come to the forefront of the arc in the closing issues. Big things are happening on the STEEL front, things I cannot wait to write for the big finale. Also, look out for an All Star Comics tale starring John Henry Irons, set before the IXE, written by one third of the Action Comics team, [name redacted]! That is, if he gets off his arse and gets to it. Zing! The assassination scene guarantees I will be back next issue. Rightly so! This is a story element we've discussed before Dave, but how it's resolved? You won't believe it! But in upcoming issues, expect to see the best Metahuman medical specialists the DC2 has to offer working on the Man of Steel! Charles McNider, aka Doctor Midnite! Niles Caulder, aka the Chief! Ray Palmer, aka the Atom! And what doesn't help that the only cure for Superman's ailment is currently residing in the Fortress of Solitude... I have a huge confession to make. Rip Hunter is probably my least favorite character in the entire DC Universe. He always has been. I'm sorry, I just never liked the character or concept. Damn! I always try to revitalize characters that no one likes and make them appealing to those who they never appealed to before. Looks like I've failed on two accounts with this book (Caesar, yes, being an OC, but still, if Dave doesn't like him...) but I hope you don't mind his appearances in the next issues. Action Comics is becoming quite the ensemble book! But don't worry Brian, I promise, no time travelling for him for the foreseable... Hey? What does that mean...? I have to admit, the cover is what hooked me on this issue. I just had to see what that was all about...! Maybe that story deserved to be a one-shot all it's own...? Roy knocked this one out the park, delivering, once again, one of my stupid cover ideas into reality! And a Rip Hunter announcement will follow soon (sorry Brian!). That being said, this was alright for a Superman book that had absolutley nothing to do with Superman. Actually, this feels like it would have worked perfectly as a Showcase issue. Wouldn't it be great if these guys starred in a new Showcase anthology? Incidentally, I really enjoyed this installment of "Krypton Square", making this issue a regular tour de force for Roy Flinchum. The Guardian feels a little like a DC Captain America here, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Nice cliffhanger! I will be back to see how this concludes, and am looking forward to reading more from our versatile Mr. Flinchum! Captain America dying has really shaken me, and my love of his ultimate incarnation is really what made me come up with the Guardian playing a major role in this book for this arc. Also, my era of Superman is basically the Jurgens run, when Cadmus played a big role in the title, and it's through back issues that I came to learn about the title. That, and the Death, World Without and Return TPBs. Great stuff. I'd also like to say that "Escape To Krypton" takes place between Action Comics #15 and #16. I can't wait to see how Roy delivers the finale!!

I HAD to read this. I like Zombies. And I looove Rip Hunter. So, the cover sucked me in.
And, while I liked the Zombie and universe traveling, everything else was so... nothing. I really don't like Superman's supporting cast that much, and the main character not appearing until the end was another reason I didn't give this a better score.
Loved the covers.

I blame myself for Casaer. That was all me. I take full responsibility for the Caesar character.
But people should remember that Action Comics was not always a Superman book. I believe that so far from what I've seen is that with out Superman, Metropolis still has protectors against evil. When the Big S goes down or is missing or is out of ACTION, then others need to step up in his absence and that is what I believe Charlie is doing with the series.

If you're going to defend the guy 'Chief, spell his name correctly! 'Sides, I take full responsibility. Your character, 'Chief, allowed me a chance to create a diverse and differing cast unlike anything in the DC2 has to offer in any book, right here in the title I started last year through sheer force of will and irritation of Dave! Action Comics is my baby! This is true. And I'm crying myself to sleep at night. Might be connected

Just an announcement, Action Comics #18[/i] will be postponed, due to real life getting in the way of getting this issue out! Don't worry though, we'll be back and better than ever before you know it!
