So the Joker finally makes an appearance in a Batman book, in an excellent series of flashbacks. You have a very good sense of the Joker's twisted, homicidal personality.
Just as interesting are the psychological effects the Joker has on Bruce. Despite the fact that he doesn't actually appear in the present, the Joker's presence is felt throughout with the actions of Harley Quinn. And I agree with dragonbat that Batman-as-Joker was spine-tingling. Bruce now knows what it feels like to be the Joker; maybe that will help him deal with the Clown Prince of Crime in the future.
Alfred saves the day again. This guy should be up for sainthood.
A very effective, spooky story. Your writing keeps getting better and better.

Well you wanted The Joker, and I wanted Batman, so why not have them... Being the same person? I dunno, that's not the rationale behind this story. Alfred saves the day again. This guy should be up for sainthood. Sir Alfred Pennyworth... I like it, lets ask the Almighty himself... Dave? Can Alfred be a saint? A very effective, spooky story. Your writing keeps getting better and better. Thank you for reading!

Terrific cover. Really liked the selection of background Jokers.
Thought the story was well-written, liked the flashbacks, and loved the Pigbag joke, but felt a bit unsatisfied by the ending - in the same way I would have if Lex had exposed Supes to kryptonite and the story had ended with Lois putting some lead in the way - there was no real sense of victory. I also found it difficult to believe that the Smilex would distort Bruce's chin to the extent that Gordon and bullock would mistake him for Mister J.
Also a bit confused by the Secret Files that say this series takes place six years prior to DC2 continuity and yet it seems to be bang up to date (apart, obviously, from the flashbacks).

good job charlie. i think the way joker was written was a bit... corny(?) but on further review, that is how its supposed to be written. what I really liked though was the way you wrote Harley. spot on.

When I saw the cover for this issue, I was practically drooling with anticipation for the first appearance of Joker in a Batman issue. But did Joker show up? No, it was Harley Quinn! She was always one of my favorite characters, and you managed to capture her perfectly. This issue was amazing, Joker or no Joker!

Great read, Charles. I like the ending when it seemed that Bruces little walk on the wild side may have loosened him up a bit. Come to think of it how freeing it must be to have a mind like jokers, hee hee, I mean to not hee hee hee care heee hee hoo hoo what society ahhahahah thinks.. Hahahahahahahahheeeeehehehehehhehwwoohhooo!

Hmm, nice story.
I recognize several of the Jokers on the cover of Batman #9. I saw the Red Hood, the B:TAS Joker, the 60s TV show Joker, the playing card joker, and I'm sure the Jack Nicholson Joker is in there somewhere.

That a was great issue. I thought that your characterization of Harley Quinn and the Joker were spot on. Nice job.
By the way, I loved the "Got your nose" line. ;D

I really enjoyed this - not only was the characterisation of the Joker and Harley perfect, but you managed to portray a Batman struggling under the influences of Smilex just superbly!
