A fitting conclusion to an epic storyline and a perfect set up to the new status quo that will be coming in the upcoming pages of Batman and Detective Comics. The cover is brilliant and Nathan Kilburn deserves many kudos for delivering the goods, as he has done on all of his other efforts on the Batman title.
Lastly, it was a pleasure to work on this storyline with Charlie and Imari. I've never really collaborated like this in my previous experiences in fan fiction and it was a sheer joy. I hoped I improved their writing as much as they improved mine. I hope we can all get together and do some kind of event again (knowing Charlie, he probably has one or two already lined up!). I also want to thank Paul Johnson, for his work on the Nightwing covers.
Stick around folks, the next couple of issues chronicle the transition back to normalcy and then we begin the new year with a bang!

A satisfying end to Bruce Wayne's year-long sabbatical. Watching the bat-family grow in his absence and come into their own has been an exciting and entertaining journey. It's nice though to have the original bat back.
Ra's return and defeat was handled with finesse, both here and in the setup in the Detective and Nightwing series. I especially enjoyed how casually the ninjas were treated in this issue -- almost like the Bats were swatting flies as they diffused bombs across the city.
I look forward to seeing where the Bat books are headed next: what will happen to Dick; Bruce and Jason; Jason and Hush; how Bruce Wayne will successfully step back into public light after his public death; and what exactly Bruce has been up to for the last year.
I have really enjoyed this arc and applaud everyone that has worked so hard on it.
Also, fantastic cover. Clean inks, nice detail, and great sense of depth with the washed out background characters.

The cover is brilliant and Nathan Kilburn deserves many kudos for delivering the goods, as he has done on all of his other efforts on the Batman title. We've been very lucky with the artists on this arc. Nathan, Paul and yourself have blown me away cover after cover, and I'm thoroughly impressed by the consistency of the offerings. They've done some amazing work, and I'm hoping to work with you all again in the future. Lastly, it was a pleasure to work on this storyline with Charlie and Imari. I hope we can all get together and do some kind of event again (knowing Charlie, he probably has one or two already lined up!). I also want to thank Paul Johnson, for his work on the Nightwing covers. One or two, Alex, one or two... this has been a fun experience, one that has improved my work with every issue. I've enjoyed awaiting the notes from Alex and Im, as they've given me insight into how to make the work I sent them exponentially better. Stick around folks, the next couple of issues chronicle the transition back to normalcy and then we begin the new year with a bang! December is gonna get bus-yyyy.

A satisfying end to Bruce Wayne's year-long sabbatical. Watching the bat-family grow in his absence and come into their own has been an exciting and entertaining journey. It's nice though to have the original bat back. The growth of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd through this event has been a very important thing to me, as you really have to get into the characters' heads from day one. I remember the earliest issues after the event, with Dick exhausted from having to be three people, Nightwing, Batman and himself, and there's been a conscious effort from the bat-books from that point to make him... be stronger. He got used to it. His abilities have improved, and I know that Im is going to take this newly invigorated Dick Grayson to some cool places in the new year. Now, if only we can finish that Nightwing Annual... Ra's return and defeat was handled with finesse, both here and in the setup in the Detective and Nightwing series. I especially enjoyed how casually the ninjas were treated in this issue -- almost like the Bats were swatting flies as they diffused bombs across the city. I don't know if the scene survived revision, but these ninjas are the bottom of the barrel for the League of Assassins. Bruce has been dismantling their operations for months-- and we'll see a bit more of what he did for the year or so in upcoming issues of Detective Comics-- and their training facilities and usual members have gone to ground, or been arrested. Plus, Jason, Dick and Bruce are some of the best fighters in the DC2, hands down, so they can handle some namby-pamby ninjas, right? I look forward to seeing where the Bat books are headed next: what will happen to Dick; Bruce and Jason; Jason and Hush; how Bruce Wayne will successfully step back into public light after his public death; and what exactly Bruce has been up to for the last year. Ramon and I have been discussing a very cool concept for a Jason Todd mini/one shot, which will inevitably follow up on the Hush threads as well, and that will probably roll out of future issues of Detective Comics. Dick is going to continue back into Teen Titans (not that he really ever left) and fully into his own title, and I'm psyched to see what Im has in store for us. And Bruce's return... well, we know what we're doing-- hopefully I have really enjoyed this arc and applaud everyone that has worked so hard on it. Thank you, Jina! Nice to hear from you. Also, fantastic cover. Clean inks, nice detail, and great sense of depth with the washed out background characters. Completely, Nathan Kilburn never lets us down, and his art always impresses..

Well I'll admit to not reading any of the Batman on this site except for the Return storyline, but if any of the other ones are have as good as this one then I just might read them.
I loved the dynamics between the three Batman, and how they could mow down ninjas with a flick of the wrist as all men who claim the title of Batman should be able to.

That's what I'm talking about. They're the Batman, dammit! Thanks for reading, and I really do advise you to pick any of our great titles, we've got some amazing stuff going on across the board-- I suggest you start somewhere near New Outsiders, JSA, Danger Trail, Batman, Batman, Batman...

Finally!!! Well worth the wait and a perfect return for our original Dark Knight. Kudos to everyone for pulling this off in a perfect way that I can almost guarentee DC will not do half as well as what you guys did. Everything was really perfect down to the last detail in this story, but what amazes me personally is the whole Jason/Hush story. I'm VERY intrigued with this story and hope to see more of it in future storylines. Standing ovation to everyone for an incredibly masteful story. Now let's get Dick back as Nightwing where he belongs! 5 stars for everyone on this issue and 7 stars for the best Batman arc I've read to date.

I know, right? Well worth the wait and a perfect return for our original Dark Knight. Kudos to everyone for pulling this off in a perfect way that I can almost guarentee DC will not do half as well as what you guys did. Now you're just being overly kind, come on... Everything was really perfect down to the last detail in this story, but what amazes me personally is the whole Jason/Hush story. I'm VERY intrigued with this story and hope to see more of it in future storylines. That is something I will be seeking to pursue in 2010, and I just have to figure out the appropriate venue for such a story. I actually wanted to talk to you about that, so I'll have to get on that soon... Standing ovation to everyone for an incredibly masteful story. Now let's get Dick back as Nightwing where he belongs! To be fair I think that Dick made a brilliant Batman, but I know what you mean! I can't wait to finally calm down a bit in the Bat-line...! 5 stars for everyone on this issue and 7 stars for the best Batman arc I've read to date. Again, you're too kind.

Wow...how did I not read this issue sooner? From the very first "Welcome home, detective." to the set-up for this year's Bat stories, this issue was absolutely awesome. Bruce's return was all kinds of cool, jumping right into the action against Ra's. And I loved the "Who do you think you are?" "I'm Batman" bit. Was it a crime that I could hear Christian Bale's growling Bat-voice during that line? Bruce being back is great in itself but the character I've found myself latching onto most during the last year has been Jason. DC wasted a major opportunity with him but I'm very happy to say that our DC2 Bat team has not made the same mistake. He's an incredibly complex and interesting character who's not overly psychotic and evil like in DCU but still retains his edge here. And come on, that Dark Knight Batman Beyondish suit fits him so well. The part with him and Hush was a cool moment and I'm looking forward to how that plays out. All in all, a fantastic issue that really makes me excited for this year's books!

Wow...how did I not read this issue sooner? You tell me, ya mook! I couldn't help myself with that line. And yes, it's always good to hear Bale-- though I prefer Conroy, you know? Bruce being back is great in itself but the character I've found myself latching onto most during the last year has been Jason. DC wasted a major opportunity with him but I'm very happy to say that our DC2 Bat team has not made the same mistake. He's an incredibly complex and interesting character who's not overly psychotic and evil like in DCU but still retains his edge here. And come on, that Dark Knight Batman Beyondish suit fits him so well. The part with him and Hush was a cool moment and I'm looking forward to how that plays out. Jason will be making an appearance in Detective Comics #46 before he moves onto other things. Ramon and I have been chatting again about a miniseries or a one-shot, but we're more preoccupied with The Guardian, but we intend to get to it! I'm always very pleased to see people enjoy what we've done with Jason. It means a lot. All in all, a fantastic issue that really makes me excited for this year's books! As you should be. A change of the guard is coming with the writing duties on certain titles. Writers leaving and writers coming, and it's going to be great. 2009 was the year of Batman, I think, and just because that's over doesn't mean we want to lose momentum. There'll be a slight hiccup before those new writers make their debut, but still, I'm excited to see what happens!
