This was really well written. I loved seeing Joker make his first appearance in the DC2 and thought that he and all of the other characters were characterized perfectly. Really great work here, I may have to pick up DC1's Nightwing some time.

New Outsiders and Nightwing! All the 'n's and all with the Joker, and I must say, in both of these books he's been spot on. Fantastic writing, fantastic situation, fantastic books! Can't wait for next issue, so please... Can we have a sneak preview? I'm joking btw. I'll be patient.

Glad you're enjoying. No sneak preview of this... though if you check a few other fanfic sites you'll find the rest of "Locked Inside the Facade"... (please don't post any spoilers once you do, though.)

Very, Very well done! I expected great things when I found out who the writer on Nightwing was going to be, and I wasn't disappointed! You bring a very professional quality of writing to these familiar characters. I bet its a challenging task to write about Batman and Robin(Nightwing), two characters that have had their stories told countless times. But you not only deliver, but you surpass a lot of the regular DC tales involving both. Ramon, your cover was the perfect example of what a cover should be. Simple, yet powerful enough to draw you in. Great job on complimenting the story that followed! In the first issue you let the reader get into Dick's head and we get a glimpse of where he is in this point in his life. We understand how he sees his relationship with Bruce, and how he sees himself at this stage in his career. He hesitates and has self doubt but also displays youthful confidence that borders on cockiness? It was painful to read as a young Batgirl and Robin make rookie mistakes that lead to a brutal encounter with the Joker, a character that I loath with a passion, but with your portrayal I can tolerate! You put Batman through the wringer with everything that happened this issue. It makes me wonder how he could ever be portrayed as anything but grim and gritty with everything he goes through. If Superman was faced with losing 100 innocent lives in a night what would become of him? He wouldn't be so super anymore would he? But poor Bats keeps chugging along! All and all, I look forward to seeing what happens with Dick Grayson as his solo adventure begins.
Thanks again for setting the example for what FanFic, or any good story should be at its best: 1) having a passion and love for the characters 2) settling for nothing less then professional quality and a superb writing style!

one of the great things about being a cover artist is that some writers hook it up with scenes from the story... ellens original idea was to have joker beating up batgirl and robin in distress also being beat up. but that is NOOOO way to do a cover that starts out a series, that explains that. Anyhow the scene i got was that one with the joker and nightwing and babs and i just kept thinking, this is friggin intense. crazy good, but intense. well ellen, it worked better now that i got to read the whole story i friggin LOVE it. great job and i can't wait till next month. yeah and like john said, thanks for setting the bar for the rest of us so high Now how is my friggin prankster arc later on gonna be cool? It was bad enough in comparison to... er... POWERS INC!

Awesome stuff! It kept me completley rivited from beginning to end. Since Nightwing is in my top five characters of all time, I am so glad that you are writing him. He deserves someone as good as you. Great cover Ramon! Actually sent a chill down my spine.

Thanks! (Blush) You're really too kind. For some reason Dick's head is very easy for me to get into. Bruce is trickier. I usually have to show what he does rather than what he thinks. Thanks again! Agreed! Ramon, you did good! Right. I don't agree with the retcons that had Bruce as grim and gritty from day one. And although Nightwing is a new hero (new suit and all) Dick Grayson isn't a newbie to the hero game. He IS, however, 18. For all his training, and all his smarts, emotionally he's still a teenager, still trying to find his way. Bruce has never been a talker, and he doesn't know how to handle Dick's behavior. So he comes down harder and more strictly than Dick would like. Dick resents it, and the friction intensifies... I was worried about that one. Joker's really hard to pin down. I almost feel like if I think I 'get' him, I've missed the point. Joker is a "random happening". He's like the one person in the world who, when given the punchline to 'how many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?' (one to fill the bathtub with orange plastic giraffes and one to swim the Sahara riding bareback on a mountain goat) would stroke his chin thoughtfully and say "that would be about right." Just fleshing out the background Idle gave me. This is kinda sorta an amalgam of Death in the Family and Knightfall with seasonings of Killing Joke. Thanks for the detailed FB! Stay tuned!

Honestly, gang, I've been fanficcing with the Bat-clan for over two years, now and I'm more comfortable with the characters now than I was when I started. There's real talent on this board, lots of it, among the writers and the artists. I really doubt I've set the bar THAT high! But thanks for the kudos!

This is one of the best stories here. Right next to the New Outsiders. I was wondering for a while why Dick and Bruce parted ways. I can't wait to read the next issue. Also Roman's covers are getting better and better. Nightwing and Teen Titans this week look awesome. Thanks for the great read.

Soulfly, next issue cuts ahead a few months. Since we already found out why NW dons the new suit back it TT #3, I'm setting the next one a bit later. Basically, I'm giving him time to become his own person, and it's going to need the first two issues to set the stage. Hope it'll find as much favor!

I really liked this one! The ending was soooo good--horrible, yes, but a perfect ending. The scenes with the Joker were perfect, and I could actually 'feel' Dick's fear during that whole scene with him. I felt soo bad for Bruce in the end but it was really a great reason to make him all grim once more. All in all, this was excellent writing and I enjoyed it very much!

I don't think that there is anything in this letter col that hasn't been said already about this issue. Just let me add that I loved it. A character driven story, where everyone does exactly what their motivations dictate and lots of action as well. When I stop buying/reading a comic it's not because the artist sucks or because there's not enough fight scenes, it's because I no longer care about the characters. I haven't read a "published" comic in while. I will however be reading DC2's Nightwing every month. As well as a few other titles on this sight. I just don't get why people in the "industry" don't understand that this is how you make great stories! Thanks for your work and entertaining me! Goldk.

Thank-YOU! You're probably going to see a lot of character-driven material from me for the simple reason that action sequences don't flow as easily. (Working on it!) For fight fans, there WILL be fight scenes, they just won't be gratuitous.
Thank-you for your comments. It's more important for me to know WHY you liked something than to know THAT you liked it.
(Similarly, if you don't like something, tell me what and why. How else will I know if I goofed?)
Appreciate the feedback!

no goofs here. I really like the "leaving the message in UV" that was inspired. Makes perfect sense for a team to work that way. Batman didn't have to waste time "detecting" where Robin had gone and Robin was still acting as a team member. Brilliant.

I can't express how much I enjoyed this issue! I wasn't sure that I would be too interested in Robin but what you did to Robin and the way you worked the situation was wonderful! One of the things I love best about your writing is that you feel like you know the characters when you are reading it, which I think is very important. It's so important that the writer has a powerful in sight into the characters and I think you are gifted with that ability! I am obessed with The New Outsiders but this would have to be number one on my list for this month (Although the Outsiders was very good!). Ellen, you are like the Gail Simone of the DC2! I hope that in the future you take on more series! Can't wait for the next issue! Wonderful work!

Praise indeed, Cheshire! Thank-you so much! (Though I think you might be pushing it just a tad with the Gail comparison.) As for other titles... well, as it is now, Dick Grayson is the only character whose head I can get into with anything approaching regularity. I know what makes the rest of the Bat-crew tick, but NW's the only one where I know how he thinks. If that changes, who knows? I might consider another book.

Hmm maybe, but IMO you are! It's just a good comparision in my opinion because both you and Gail bring justice to the characters you write.

I just hope I'm not Devin Grayson or Judd Winnick...lol!
Great story, dragonbat! As Nightwing is one of my favourite DCU characters, I was a bit nervous about how he'd be portrayed in the DC2. However, I loved the way you handled him and found this more enjoyable to read than all of Grayson's run on the DCU Nightwing series put together. Superb job!
