Ellen, you had me gripped! Which is surprising considering how hard I found it to get into your prior issues, but this... Was fantastic! The characters reacted as they should in the situatiosn they found themselves in, and you used Green Arrow as I always thought he should be (a less stern, more smart ass-y Batman) so bravo... I'm tempted to give you Best Issue, but New Outsider's once again clinches it for me

While the writing craftmanship on display was impressive (especially liked the Ollie/Dick scene), I wasn't that enamoured with the story itself. Maybe because Dick still seems to have a lot to learn (first he gets all petulant about some two year old romance, then he's stupid enough to let Morton escape and then he goes off to rescue him and would have been shot to bits by walking straight into gunfire if Bruce hadn't had the foresight to assume he'd be incompetent and given him a bulletproof wardrobe). At least Barbara's role as glorified chauffeur this time around was a step up from her damsel-in-distress role in the first issue.
It could just be that you're trying to portray things realistically with Dick still learning, while I'd just like something more heroic. Who knows?
Great cover.

Everyone's entitled to an opinion. And yes, Dick IS still finding his footing. To be fair, two years in the past, or not, Dick just found out that the girl he was in love with was dating one of his best friends. That does sting. (When I was 16, I was invited to a grand total of ONE sweet sixteen party. My classmates were discreet enough not to discuss the parties in my presence, and I honestly believed that they just weren't taking place. I was in a small religious high school. It wasn't a Jewish "thing". Maybe the Bar/Bat Mitzvah was the major teen event, and the sweet 16 was a big deal for my parent's generation. We sure didn't have a senior prom. Years later, I found out that almost EVERYONE had had a sweet 16. And realizing that almost nobody had invited me did hurt when it was revealed. Even though I knew in my 20s that it was moot, no big deal at that point, it didn't matter.)
Oh, and the costume was ALWAYS bulletproof. Jade was shooting at NW's head.
Thanks for reading!
Charlie, glad you liked!

Much of this I had already read and loved. The parts that I hadn't were super. Boy that Scarapelli guy sure got around this month. I've said it before and I'll keep saying it, your respect and passion for Nightwing is incredible, and your tales are a testiment to that. It is always an honor to read your work, and something I look forward to every month. It was also great to see Jade show up! One of my all time favorites!

Another great, character driven chapter in the saga of Nightwing. This title has a different flavor than most of the others I think because it is as much about what the heroes feel as what they do.
Though Dick has been trained by the best and is competent in his own right, he is still young. He is entitled to make mistakes (as long as he corrects them). Even Bruce Almighty isn't perfect (as recent issues of DC2's 'Tec have shown). It does seem like this book is about Dick learning and growing as a crimefighter and a man and I for one find the journey fascinating.
And the thing with Babs? If the girl you loved slept with your best friend (or approximately thereof) you'd be out of your mind too.
Looking forward to this arc's conclusion.

Thanks! And you're right, Bruce ISN'T perfect. Dick's going to realize that very soon...

Finally got around to reading this -- yes, I'm that far behind on my fic-reading-- and I wish I hadn't waited. Great job as always. I liked the way you handled Dick and Babs' talk about her involvement with Roy, and the little atmospheric touches (for lack of a better term) you slipped into dealing with the Mortons -- nothing like having a superhero help you with your homework! -- were fun. And the story still isn't over!

Thanks, Susan. I was shooting for something that would drive a wedge for now, but not eliminate any possibility of the two getting together down the road. Story wraps next issue... and there WILL be a bit more action. See ya next week!
