this was an interesting story, and a nice piece that continues the growing friendship/brotherhood between Dick and Tim. I REALLY enjoy Batkid's take on Nightwing and am glad to see her back at the helm. I've enjoyed all the other issue's as well with some very strong and fun writers, but Batkid had me sold with her first story, and I've loved her stuff ever since. that being said, I'm really sorry to say that I found this issue a bit wanting in some respects. At this point in DC2 I know it is a bit hard to keep switching Dick back and forth between Batman and Nightwing, and this is a minor quibble, I suppose, but I was really keeping my fingers crossed that we got to see Dick in his "other" role in this book. The story, although extremely well written, seemed a bit flat. I'm really, really sorry for feeling that way. I just know how good this writer is so I guess perhaps I was expecting more. What I thought was great about this story was that it didn't shy away from the fact that no matter how much our heroes try, they don't always win the day for everyone. Even the end of the story was well done in the fact that there wasn't one more mission where Tim saved the day and all was forgotten. This was a story about learning, and that doesn't come over night. Well done with showing us that. I do hope we get to see Dick back as Nightwing soon, though. At least in this book. Either way, I'm a loyal fan of Batkids and will always read everything that she writes.

This was an interesting approach to seeing how heroes deal with failure. Tim's new to this, and Dick's an old hand, so his view helps, but the guilt was quite palpable on Drake's part, and I really felt sorry for the guy. Of course it's not his fault, it's not anyone's fault but the murderer's, but still... Writing wise, I have to admit, I thought it started weak, but as soon as the hostage situation kicked in it picked up in a big way (Though there were moments I groaned inwardly, when... Mark was it? When he mocks the hostage taker. Ugh.) but then slowed down again. It was a bit uneven in that respect. A strong attempt, but it just didn't click with me. Nice to see some out of costume interaction, and I'll of course be back for next issue!

Loved it.
What can I say, I'm a sucker for stories like this. I like seeing a hero struggle, I like seeing the human side to these oft-times superhuman characters, and I like the realistic tilt you take on having a teenager have to deal with all this darkness. Of course he'll have to fight through it, and of course he'll have to depend on people who have been there before. I grew up a Marvel fan, sue me, I like my heroes in the Lee-Kirby vein.
Great job.

I don't see how either Tim or Dick failed in any respect in this issue. But the fact that Tim feels like he did is good. If he didn't care, he wouldn't be cut out for the job. Dick, of course, knows this.
That said, I also like the little touches--Dick lowering the intensity of the lights when someone passed on the road, the nod to the old West/Ward tv show with stopping for burgers, the kids telling the thug he was gonna lose--most of all.

I loved coming back and writing Nightwing, though I have enjoyed reading the issues others wrote during my break. They were AMAZING. Glad you liked the issue, though I'm sorry it fell flat. I will have to work on that, and I really appreciate your feedback. As for Tim, I didn't want a mushy save-the-day-so-all-is-well ending, though I wasn't sure how I WOULD end it until I actually got to that point, so I'm relieved that that worked out alright. Haha! I like Batman, too, though Dick has always been Robin, then Nightwing for me. Writing him as Batman is rather different and I'm just hoping it comes off at least somewhat okay.

Thanks. I was hoping it wouldn't be too corny or whatever, though I did think that being a what, 15 year-old, trying to deal with all that at once, after everything has changed so quickly would be... hard, to say the least. And Marvel rocks. As for struggling teen heroes... I might've read one or two too many Spider-man issues this summer.

Thanks, Jay. I love reading books with little touches but am always afraid of overdoing it when actually writing them, so I'm glad it worked! It was amusing, because in one other issue with Anton/Night-Thief throwing the Pringles out the car window at Dick, and... well, frankly, my mom hated it. It was too cartoony in the middle of the car chase, she said. It stayed in the issue, though I was kinda biting my nails on that hoping it wouldn't turn out too horribly... it came out okay, though, I thought, at least. So I'm always glad to hear if the little touches work for the story.

Beautiful cover, Knightreaver! Love it. I love his cape swirling... gives it added drama.
