I wasn’t expecting this. I’m serious, I’m usually on the ball regarding these kind of things (because, to be frank, I’m obsessive and write, basically, all the time nowadays to keep on top of things at the site) but it’s been my exams and things so it’s been a bit awkward, because of my total inability to revise has really prospered due to IXE coming up soon, so you know… Going with the flow. For all youse not in the know, I’ve enjoyed writing The Question Quarterly very much, so much in fact that I’ve already written issues zero to five of the new ongoing series, so if you’re lucky, I’ll reach lucky number issue ten soon enough, and then you’ll have the monthly adventures of everyone’s favourite faceless vigilante… I’m assuming that’s true because a) only faceless vigilante on the site, unless I’ve missed something in Elseworlds and b) because you’re all reading this book, on the strange ‘Quarterly’ schedule it comes out on.
A piece suitable for our conclusion, courtesy of the multi talented maverick called ArtTeach, who is now an Assistant Art Director for the site, big congratulations to the guy, he’s a talent.
Anyways, I was gonna’ make this important and big, but Susan Hilwig’s computer broke, leading to this last minute introduction (last minute meaning I’ve only just discovered Susan can’t make it for her special final issue introduction, but never mind, I’ve got the computer for the next hour or so…). I want to thank Brandon, Scott and Ramon for the awesome covers they’ve designed, because come on, I wouldn’t have read this book without Brandon’s amazing visual for the first issue, and I wrote it! Scott stepped in when Ramon was having troubles with his cover with an astonishing piece, and, as I haven’t seen Ramon’s latest piece for tomorrow… I have no idea what it’ll be like, but if it shares anything with anything that’s come before… It’ll be awesome. They always are.
Ramon Villalobos with a wicked Green Arrow/The Question team up piece, and if you’re interested in seeing more of these two guys… Check out The Question #4 and #5!
This story was the culmination of two issues of back story, two issues of mere set up for the big final conclusion to a series that does not conclude with #3. We start again, we move the hero away from Gotham (yes, spoiler, he’s in Gotham…) and to some place that might suit him better, and we give him some new friends. You could say he joins a team, but it’s not really a team but a partnership with two other characters, one you’ll experience in this upcoming issue, and another with a big ol’ chunk of back-story regarding Vic Sage, in his ol’ Hub City days. It’s going to be revealed in the ongoing, along with the origins and pasts of every hero you seen in the book. You might like it. Hopefully.
Borize, our resident genius and colouring officiado, with a Batman/The Question piece that pretty much sums up how I view Vic Sage… On the same level as Bruce Wayne himself. Well… He should be
This issue was fun, in a way that the other issues hadn’t been. I mean… They were solid! Really hard to work through because of the psychological aspect to the story that made it so I had to get certain facts across that lay the foundation for this issue, which concludes this little ‘arc’ of the character, but also sets up the character for future stories. Hectic as hell, I tell thee. So from 20,959 words comes this final story, clocking in at… Some such amount that I have no idea of… It was a blast, because I got to bring back a character who appeared in our first fifth week event, and I loved writing him there, and I loved writing him here, and I’m still loving writing him over there. Just there. In front of you. Soon!
A piece by Roy Flinchum, long running cover artist of Adventures of Superman, and a pure joy to work with, as demonstrated by the amazing ‘Black Zero’ covers he reeled out for me during that fiasco… Want to see The Question Vs Superman? You’re in luck, The Question #16 will sort that bit out for you quite well… And if that confrontation doesn’t get me pegged as a Mary Sue-er, nothing will
Suggested further reading for this book… Detective Comics #697-699, Adventure Comics #73-#92, Detective Comics #437-#443, 52 #1-4, The Question Vol. 1 #1-36 and Batman/Huntress: Cry For Blood #1-6, the miniseries that really got me into the character of The Question. It’s awesome, an actual good story by Greg Rucka, who is a writer who’s Superman, Wonder Woman and Batman and Rennee Mon--Gotham Central, a book that I loved (mainly for Ed Brubaker )…
The Question Quarterly #2’s cover was a hectic piece to churn out, and it came up and a time when Scott’s had already been known as “The Cover” but I still think this awesome piece deserves some recognition as the series closes. Another Villalobos piece, and as always, fantastic!
Anyways, might as well end with some thanks: David Charlton, for allowing me to write this! Susan Hilwig, for being my reclusive yet understanding beta! Ramon Villalobos for listening to my talk of beards, and being an all round swell guy, regardless of the constant bullying I take from him, even though it's all a joke (and it's well established I can't take one of them)! Brian Burchette for talking things over with me and helping me put my thoughts in order! DrDread, for helping me come up with an explosive finale for #20 of the as yet unreleased ongoing! (thanks Doc!) Naomi Hannon, for reading my previous stories and being quite encouraging! And… Everyone else who has helped in some way, but not in a big enough way to get a mention on the big paragraph of thanks. Booya.
And as a final parting gift before the countdown to Issue Three of Three lands, a gift from the desk of Mrs Susan Hilwig…
Have fun people, it's on me!
