Well that was brutal.
A very action-packed, very enjoyable issue. Catman's Bruce Lee-esque trial-by-fire was a very entertaining read. The Voice is continuing to be a master villain the likes of which I haven't seen in a long time, in a good way. And Mr. Punch...my goodness, what a character. Reminds me of certain Ace of Knaves.
I like the new characters too. Metallo has always struck me as a villain with potential (beyond "Look at me! I've got Green-K! Tremble before my power that every other Superman villain seems to have!") so i'd like to see where he goes. Major Disaster has always been a favorite of mine (don't know why). And Lex...WTF is up with that? Where did that come from?
I'll definately be back next month. Keep up the amazing work.

My work is done, I'll get my coat. A very action-packed, very enjoyable issue. Catman's Bruce Lee-esque trial-by-fire was a very entertaining read. Catman got his arse handed to him last issue. It was horrible, and this is supposed to be SSoSV "elite team", as it were? The trouble-shooters? The role of the main team will be examined in-depth in #5, but if you're supposed to be the best, then you should be able to fight and win again Black Spider. But then again... Black Spider's a mother$%^&ing badass, so really... Catman just needs to be better. Deathstroke recognised this, and as such... he beat Catman into being a better badass himself. But to what extent? The Voice is continuing to be a master villain the likes of which I haven't seen in a long time, in a good way. I'm still looking forward to #6 on so many levels. The Voice is going to freak you all out so hard. And Mr. Punch...my goodness, what a character. Reminds me of certain Ace of Knaves. Mr Punch is the villain of #4, and one I'm thinking is going to stick around for the foreseeable, lurking on the fringe of the SSoSV, causing trouble. I'm tempted to make comparisons between him and the current Marvel version of Zodiac that has appeared out of the Dark Reign event... but I won't ;D I like the new characters too. Metallo has always struck me as a villain with potential (beyond "Look at me! I've got Green-K! Tremble before my power that every other Superman villain seems to have!") so i'd like to see where he goes. Whilst I'm loathe to say that SSoSV is serving as a kind of Villain Rehabilitation title, bringing certain villains back to levels of hardcoreness that they should be at... that's pretty much what I'm intending to do. And you'll see these characters fold back into their main titles as well, with Toyman returning to Action Comics next month, and Parasite-- who is going to a place that'll take him up a league-- will hopefully be returning too. I know Metallo is, and you'll see this new version in full swing next issue. It's going to be majestic. Major Disaster has always been a favorite of mine (don't know why). I love Paul Booker, ever since his Justice League of America tenure! He's a marvellous sort, and he'll be shifting into the spotlight very soon, as our main character's... allegiances change. /spoiler? And Lex...WTF is up with that? Where did that come from? Action Comics #44[/b]. That won't bite ANYONE in the arse, will it? I'll definately be back next month. Keep up the amazing work. -UDC Cheers, mate! See you there!

Very nice work as usual. Normally I just tell that to Charlie on MSN but this time around he threatened me so...
I'm liking what your doing with The 100, haven't seen much of them before but they always seemed interesting so it's nice that your putting them into play. The scene with Kobra was... unsettling. Nice work.
Seems that everything is building towards one big standoff between various factions of the Supervillain community, and it'll be interesting to see everything spill over into the hero books.
I have to be honest though, I'm not sure if I'm crazy about seeing Catman as he is. He wasn't really broken down the way he was in the DCU, and it doesn't feel like he'd have the same joke status here the way he did before The Secret Six series that Simone was doing. I do enjoy having his perspective though, and The Gauntlet was a pretty good display of The Voice's character though. Eliminating the traitors in his organization with such a display the way he did really showed just how brutal he can go. Also gave Catman some great scenes to work with.
Overall it was an excellent story. Have a few theories on who The Voice really is, but I won't make any guesses just yet.

Very nice work as usual. Normally I just tell that to Charlie on MSN but this time around he threatened me so... Silence--! I'm liking what your doing with The 100, haven't seen much of them before but they always seemed interesting so it's nice that your putting them into play. The scene with Kobra was... unsettling. Nice work. Both The 100 and Kobra are organisations I wish to invest more time in after the initial "pilot" arc. I wanted to see if this series had legs before I committed to moving forward with my second story arc, and after the reception it's been given, I think it's pretty obvious you're going to see more of this title as the months progress. After the initial arc, a storyline I've been talking over with Don, entitled "World Tour" might see the light of day, or even "Snake In The Grass". I have ideas. It's going to be terrible. Also, the secret of The 100 is investigated in #4, and will play a major part in the overall "myth arc" of the series. Eep! Seems that everything is building towards one big standoff between various factions of the Supervillain community, and it'll be interesting to see everything spill over into the hero books. I don't think it's going to go as far as that, but the battle will spill over to parts... beyond. It's not about him being a joke, it's about him being blunt, where he used to be sharp. Deathstroke recognises this-- Catman used to be the greatest hunter amongst them all, and he wants Blake to get back to that level. I thought I got that across, but my subtext must have been too subtext-y. And yes, The Voice is ruthless, as he builds towards his masterplan. Overall it was an excellent story. Have a few theories on who The Voice really is, but I won't make any guesses just yet. I might start a thread asking for theories on The Voice's identity. Could be fun thanks for the kind words, Mike. I appreciate it.

Very entertaining issue. I even enjoyed Deathstroke who I've become slightly bored with (on a totally personal level - like Wolverine at Marvel, he's just to over used sometimes). Charlie, however, has made him interesting to me again! Mr. Voice! Here's my guess. I think he's Superboy Prime! Yeah, I do, and I'll bet an entire quarter on that, too! ;D Well, whoever he is, he's pretty darn creepy. But Charlie, please, please, please tell me you didn't wipe out Lady Vic before I had a chance for a Lady Vic vs. Black Canary moment in NO. I'm going to cry... <see! As always, you don't shy away from the fierceness and brutality of a situation and I appreciate that! And what a really cool cover as well! Nice job!

Charlie, however, has made him interesting to me again! Thanks Brian, I'm very aware of Deathstroke's status, and when I spoke to Mark about the character and this project, I did indeed use the words "Wolverine-esque" in describing his ability to appear across twelve books in one month. I've got some big plans brewing with the character, and #6 (which I intend to finish before I leave for Venice) promises to be a double-sized special event unto itself. Lots of the threads coming together. Mr. Voice! Here's my guess. I think he's Superboy Prime! Yeah, I do, and I'll bet an entire quarter on that, too! ;D Well, whoever he is, he's pretty darn creepy. I've been saying "Wait for #6, wait for #6", and I still think I can keep that promise. Some threads, for instance a main plot thread that is continued in #4, have been pushed back a bit, but will be seen. It's going to be raucous. But Charlie, please, please, please tell me you didn't wipe out Lady Vic before I had a chance for a Lady Vic vs. Black Canary moment in NO. I'm going to cry... <see! Of course not! She was a Checkmate plant, a plot thread, again, I hope to pick up on in the second part of our first year, or in the second. I haven't decided yet. But these things will be picked up on again! The real Lady Vic, I think, has yet to be seen in the DC2 (unless she appeared in an issue of Suicide Squad?), but when she is... booya. She's going to be pissed. As always, you don't shy away from the fierceness and brutality of a situation and I appreciate that! Whilst not a MA title, this book is going to push the limits of how far we can go without being shut down as a website. Don't worry, Brian. You're the only ongoing on site that can still swear like a sailor on shore leave... And what a really cool cover as well! Nice job! Yeah, Nathan really delivered, and you can see his stuff on Batman monthly, and on this month's Salem Protocol. A really cool find. Thanks for taking the time, Brian!

Playing catchup here again.
I doubt Lex will stay subdued forever.
Good villain dynamics, though.
I didn't use Lady Vic.

Playing catchup here again. Regardless, I thank you for taking the time! I doubt Lex will stay subdued forever. This is Lex Luthor we're talking about--! Good villain dynamics, though. Thank you, the "team" is coming into view clearer every issue I write, but with #5 and #6, things take a turn... Neither did I ;D Thanks for reading, Jay!

Wow, that issue was awesome. Action packed, blood everywhere gruesome death and brutality, all of the things I love. Catman cleanng house and poor Hammer and sickle getting owned my Mr Punch. Not to mention we've got a good mystery wtb the Voice, who is he and what does he want. One thing for sure, we now he's not playing around at the end of this issue, using a couple of superman's rogues to get business done.
This series is really shaping into one of the must reads on the site. Great job!

It was a really dark issue to write, and Hammer and Sickle was one of the bloodiest scenes I think I've written, barring, uhm, that time I apparently kept having Superman's hands broken. Catman being manipulated into cleaning house was a blast to write too. Basically, this series fills me with glee every time I have to write it.

After stumbling through last issue, this one seemed to fly off the screen! What an amazing issue. The issue seemed simple enough but still managed to add a powerful image to an already powerful story.
Catman’s gauntlet was brutal to say the least. Loved the mention of the first Hellhound and how he met his end. I also was surprised and in shock with how the Lady Vic pretender met her end. Checkmate huh? Interesting.
And something is going on with Catmans powers huh? Very interesting.
There were so many cool things going on with this issue its hard to find a single fault here. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the hotel scene with the 100. Seemed to come off as silly for some reason when I pictured it in my head.
The Ravager scene seemed interesting enough with the whole Kobra thing going on. Big kudos for the way you always manage to weave in DC2 continuity in to your stories. I know the work that it takes to keep track of everything but it always pays off and adds so much to the site.
You bring in Hammer and Sickle and I cheered. And then blink, their gone. So no more cheering.
And Metallo is growing on me more then he ever did in the DCU.
This issue really seemed to paint a clearer picture between the various groups and the battle lines that continue to be drawn. And the Voice is really emerging as one hell of a badass. Can’t wait to see his master plan unfold.
Of course the ending was a shocker! I can’t remember a time when there was a bigger non-reveal moment in a story. Now we know who the Voice isn’t. Or maybe it’s a trick of some kind. Either way this series is finally hitting its stride and I am eager to keeping reading.
5 stars.

After stumbling through last issue, this one seemed to fly off the screen! What an amazing issue. The issue seemed simple enough but still managed to add a powerful image to an already powerful story. Yes! Thanks for thinking so. Catman’s gauntlet was brutal to say the least. Loved the mention of the first Hellhound and how he met his end. I also was surprised and in shock with how the Lady Vic pretender met her end. Checkmate huh? Interesting. This is the first of two "gauntlets" that Catman faces in the series (the next one being in #10, out soon!) and I was really happy with how it ended up. If it were Batman getting beaten up last issue, he'd go to a dojo, or go to meditate, or do something altruistic that could get himself back to the level he needed to be. If it's Catman, and your pseudo-mentor is Deathstroke... it's near-death experiences, one after the other. And yes, that Suicide Squad Annual remains one of my favourite stories, and I'd be remiss to not mention it-- plus, Catman versus Hellhound? Like I could resist. And something is going on with Catmans powers huh? Very interesting. It all begins in this issue. There were so many cool things going on with this issue its hard to find a single fault here. The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was the hotel scene with the 100. Seemed to come off as silly for some reason when I pictured it in my head. The 100 has been a concept I've struggled to realise in the series, but I'm hoping it comes together by the time of their next SSoSV appearance. But then again, Mr Punch is appearing in Action Comics #49, and a massive reveal takes place there about the nature of The 100. Also, Riot! The Ravager scene seemed interesting enough with the whole Kobra thing going on. Big kudos for the way you always manage to weave in DC2 continuity in to your stories. I know the work that it takes to keep track of everything but it always pays off and adds so much to the site. Again an example of how I'm trying to make this an alternative "spine" book for the site. Brian was really cool with letting me use Kobra, and it also allowed me to rectify the loose thread from The Flash in regards to a Kobra running around as one of the Rogues. Partly inspired by the JSA versus Kobra series that came out around this time, I do believe Brian is going to use Kobra again soon, and I know that I wanted to talk to him about it again! You bring in Hammer and Sickle and I cheered. And then blink, their gone. So no more cheering. Hammer and Sickle, like Blackguard, will be back... that's ominous, isn't it? Uh-oh... And Metallo is growing on me more then he ever did in the DCU. Yes! Glad you think so, again. Such a fun character to write. This issue really seemed to paint a clearer picture between the various groups and the battle lines that continue to be drawn. And the Voice is really emerging as one hell of a badass. Can’t wait to see his master plan unfold. The Voice is one of the scariest characters I've ever written, and the "punishments" he doffs out are based on some of my most daunting fears, so take from that what you will. The war comes to a head in #5-6, and ends in a way you might not be expecting. Of course the ending was a shocker! I can’t remember a time when there was a bigger non-reveal moment in a story. Now we know who the Voice isn’t. Or maybe it’s a trick of some kind. Either way this series is finally hitting its stride and I am eager to keeping reading. 5 stars. Cheers! Yeah, I was worried about this development, but it continues to roll out in future issues of SSoSV and into Action Comics. It only makes sense to! Thanks for reading!
