Maxwell Lord is the MAN! Ha! This was a gripping tale John, and I can't wait to see what you come up with next issue... I was just waiting for Deadshot to pull the trigger, and if it wasn't for the cover I wouldn't have expected him to be under you know who's control at the last minute! You kicked IXE up a notch!

Max is the man, but this issue was jam-packed with some hardcore stuff! Nightshade's battle with Bloody Mary! Bronze Tiger and Lashina! June Moone's incredible triumph of spirit (awesomely played!)... it seems the Squad versus the Furies was a (death) match made in heaven! Granny and Amanda's tussle in the Rose Garden made me laugh outloud--- and this issue really highlighted for me just how (no other word for it) hardcore Amanda Waller is--- she called Godfrey's bluff! That was my favorite scene--- ending with Max's command: "Shoot them both!" This was a little like reading a gritty Tom Clancy spy novel! Oh, and I just have to mention that I love the Iwo Jima imagery at the end--- and Max's speech. I have to admit, I haven't followed this title as closely as I should, but this issue has made me a reader for life (and I get to go back and read some backissues, now!) Way to go, John!

I've not had time to catch up with all the back issues yet, and it's a while since I last read the title, so I must admit that I'd have appreciated the Roll Call as in previous issues just to bring me, and any other new readers, up to speed. While there were parts of the story I enjoyed (mainly the ones centering around Waller and Max Lord), there were others where I was just trying to figure out who the characters were.
I have to say that, having looked forward to the Female Furies appearance, I was kind of disappointed that they didn't make the cover (although that's not meant as a dig at the actual cover, which was fine). Also, while I can appreciate why you might not have been able to include Barda, I would have preferred it if you'd at least used all of Kirby's original core four.

A big thank you for everybody who took the time to read and respond to this issue. It means a lot. I was given some cool ideas to work with to make this title fit into IXE.
Max Lord is one character I enjoy writing. I think after this issue he will certainly being playing a larger role in upcoming issues. The Squads involvement in the Crisis has sped up the changes that have been planned in this series from the beginning, a lot of those changes will be shown in the very next issue.
I had the most fun matching these characters up with each other and seeing what would come of it. I let the characters dictate what would happen and it turned out both Max Lord and Waller aren't very nice people, but fun characters none the less. If Amanda survives it will be interesting to see what happens next. June Moone has been one of my favorite characters in the series. Her story has been mapped out since the beginning and I am glad you liked her small but important role in the story. The Enchantress may be gone but June Moone's story isn't over yet. Thanks David for the Clancy comparison. I am not sure I agree but I appreciate it!
David had the idea for the Iwo Jima image. The speech just came from Max Lord using the situation like any good President would, make a speech that would cement his place in history during a time of crisis.
I decided against the Roll Call so it didn't slow down the flow from the Crisis issue before it. There were a lot of characters in this issue. The entire Task Force X group made their first appearance and the Force of July made their final stand. Overall I tried to keep the issue moving and not bog it down with explaining who was who. Sorry it didn't work for you Mark.
I really loved the idea of a all Furies cover too! I just choose to focus on a few key characters in the story instead. Kevin did an excellent job with what I described to him. I did tons of research on a lot of Kirby's Fourth World characters. I ultimately choose characters that matched up maybe not physically or were the classics but proved interesting when interacting with the other characters in the story.
I know this isn't a high profile title because of its lack of big name characters. I kinda feel like the limited release indie film going up against the summer blockbuster most of time, but no one has more fun then me when I am writing this. Glad to hear a few others are having fun with it too!

That was one heck of a ride! I'm really bummbed about Enchantress (being she is one of my favorites). Between her, Amanda, and some of the others, this Crisis hasn't been nice to a lot of characters!
Excellent story, John! My favorite to date. "Shoot them both." made my jaw drop. Thanks for a great read... again!

Three words: Fat Chick Fight! ;D
Not the best IXE, but damn good. Wonder how this will affect Max's approval rating once it's all over?

Thanks Brian! Enchantress is of of my favorites as well so stay tuned next issue for June Moones tale! The Enchantress will appear, at least in flashbacks. Funny! You know, the way this story ended, both women are going on diets. But I wouldn't recommend the Doom tube or gun shot wound diets to anyone! I agree with you there! I think Max will find a way to come out on top! On top of what I am not sure but top none the less. Thanks for checking things out here Susan. Please come back anytime.

Thank you Scott that was exactly the reaction I was hoping for, except maybe the head-exploding part because I need to know where my favorite Guy will be up to in the post-crisis GL series!
