Written by John Elbe Picture by Ramon Villalobos Baron WinterSecret Identity: None Aliases: Unknown First DC2 Appearance: (brief) Showcase #1- Blue Devil, (full) Suicide Squad #8 Status: Unknown Base of Operations: Washington, D.C. Occupation: Sorcerer and self proclaimed balancer of good & evil. HT: 6'3" WT: 205 pounds Eyes: Steel-Grey Hair: Black-Gray Powers and Abilities: It is unknown the extent of Baron’s powers. He does posses a considerable amount of magical abilities as a high to mid range level scocerer. He has also been able to tap into the powers of Wintergate Manor, the labyrinthine mansion in Washington D.C. at which he resides. The extent of those powers is unknown as well, but it has been speculated that the mansion is located in a special juncture in time and space, allowing him to send people to different places and times. History: Baron Winter is the orchestrator of the group called Night Force, a team he assembles to fight supernatural threats when he deems the treat likely to shift the balance of chaos and order. He has been known to manipulate and blackmail people into joining his team with no concern for their well-being during or after a mission. He considers himself a neutral party with his only concern that of maintaining said balance. He has yet to participate in any mission he has assigned the Night Force. This is because he cannot leave Wintergate Manor. The reason for this is unknown but it could be speculated that he is serving a sentence imposed by a higher power of some kind or he is just content within the walls of the mansion. Baron has often stated that fifty percent of what he tells others, is a lie. He often tells lies if it suits his needs. He claims to have had many lovers dating back many centuries. He also claims to have spent many years in a Russian prison during World War I. He has hinted many times that he has ties to the early biblical figures Adam and Eve, Lilith and the serpent. Baron has been known to work with both heaven and hell and several times mediated peace treaty settlements to prolong a full-on war between both sides. He claims to have met the love of his life over three hundred years ago while studying the occult but will no longer speak her name. Baron, who has known to be indirectly involved with members of the U.S. government, has recently discovered that the FBI and DEO have been digging deeper into his past. Now, as something known only as the "Third Stage" begins to unfold, Baron prepares to recruit new members for his Night Force team.

Written by Susan Hillwig Picture by DrDread Name: Bat Lash Full Name: Bartholomew Aloysius Lash First DC2 Appearance: WEIRD WESTERN QUARTERLY #3 Status: Hero Base of Operations: The American West, late 1800s Occupation: Gambler Known Relatives: Lemuel Lash (father, deceased), Martha Lash (mother, deceased), Melissa Lash (sister) Height: 5’11” Weight: 167 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Reddish-Blond Powers and Abilities: Though handy with a gun, Bat Lash’s greatest assets are his quick wits and even quicker tongue, both of which enable him to finagle his way out of (and sometimes into) almost any situation. When push comes to shove, however, Lash is an excellent barroom brawler, and can usually be counted on to have at least one Derringer hidden on him when the need arises. He is also exceptional at the gambling table, having been known to break the bank on many occasions. History: “Gambler by trade, womanizer by design, and outlaw by tragic error.” That’s how Bat Lash sums himself up. Raised on a farm in East Texas by a hard-working father and an educated mother, it was evident from the start that Lash would never be content with being a mere farmer, preferring a more laid-back, cultured lifestyle to pushing a plow. All that changed in 1857, when a man named Melvin Midas swindled young Bat’s parents out of their farmland. Wanting justice, he went to the authorities, only to discover that the local sheriff’s deputy was in on the scheme. Bat ended up shooting the deputy in self-defense, and fled town before explanations could be had -- the seventeen-year-old was quickly accused of murder. Arriving at the shack where his family now lived with the Gannons (who had also lost their land), he found it set ablaze and all inside dead, the handiwork of Midas’s men. Luckily, his sister Melissa had escaped, along with Bitsy Gannon, Bat’s girlfriend. Fearing more retribution, he took the girls to a nearby convent for safety, then set out on the trail of those responsible, all the while trying to avoid capture by the law. Eventually, Lash managed to track down Midas and his gang, who soon met a swift end at the hands of the angry young man. Satisfied that justice had been done, Lash returned to the convent, expecting everything to return to normal. Instead, he found that both his sister and his girlfriend were aghast at what Bat had done -- they couldn't believe that the gentle soul they'd known for so long had turned into a cold-blooded killer. Confused and hurt by their rejection, he left them at the convent and made his way to the remains of the shack. There was nothing left, save for a small flower struggling to grow out of the rubble, and the sight of it showed him the error he'd made: just because you have to fight to survive in a hard world doesn't mean you have to become hard yourself. Plucking the blossom and placing it under his hatband as a reminder, he decided to never let his darker emotions rule his head again, instead heeding the better nature of his heart. Still wanted for murder, Lash spent many years on the run, all the while trying to stay out of trouble. By 1861, he'd fled the West for the Deep South, hoping to find some peace there. Instead, he soon got caught up in the Civil War, which broke out not long after his arrival. Not wanting to get directly involved in the conflict, he instead trafficked hard-to-find goods across the Southern border, avoiding Federal blockades. One such trip caused him to cross paths with Brian Savage (see Scalphunter) and his brother Matt, both of whom were sided with the Union forces. Rather than turn him in, they talked Bat into helping them smuggle escaped slaves to freedom. That led to a long-standing partnership between the fugitive and the Kiowa brave, though there were times when Lash could be more hindrance than help. When the conflict finally ended, Bat continued his wanderings, now following his newfound passion for gambling -- the idea of making a small fortune just by turning over a few cards was quite appealing to him -- and the lovely ladies that usually frequented gambling halls certainly encouraged his interest. A few years after the War, while traveling between towns, he came across a dying young woman on the trail, who told him about a gang of white men that had raided her wagon party under the guise of marauding Indians. In the midst of tracking them down, he crossed paths with Jonah Hex, who had nearly been killed by the same men (see Jonah Hex). Working together, Lash and Hex caught those responsible, though they disagreed on how each of them defined "justice" -- in the end, the bounty hunter won out and the gang's leader met a grisly fate. Despite their differences, the two men teamed up many times after that, sometimes joined by Lash's old partner Scalphunter, whom Hex had originally met many years before the War. On most occasions, however, Bat Lash travels the West alone, always on the lookout for a flower for his hat, a lady for his arm...and a game.

Written by John Elbe Picture by Borize Blue DevilSecret Identity: Daniel Patrick Cassidy Aliases: None First DC2 Appearance: DC2 Showcase #1 Status: Hero Base of Operations: Hollywood, California Occupation: Stunt-man, Special Effects Artist HT: 6'8" (6'1" as Dan Cassidy) WT: 365 pounds (210 pounds as Dan Cassidy)
Eyes: Red (Blue as Dan Cassidy) Hair: None (Blond as Dan Cassidy) Powers and Abilities: Dan Cassidy- Limited martial arts training and was also a onetime amateur boxer. The Blue Devil suit- When he became stuck inside the suit the supernatural energy the latex and Kevlar became organic and everything was fused together at a molecular level. Many of the effects made for stunts during movie can now be performed for real including superhuman strength, heightened agility; limited invulnerability; infrared vision and much more yet to be discovered. The Trident- Also effected by the supernatural energy it gives Blue Devil the ability of flight, can fire a mystical blast and can produce an electrical discharge. Palm relays and micro-circuitry link the trident to the palm of the Blue Devil suit allowing for it to be recalled with just a thought. Like the suit itself, Dan has yet to discover the full extent of the tridents powers. History: As most Special FX needs in Hollywood shifted toward computer-generated effects, Dan Cassidy struggled to find work. No longer willing to put his body through the rigorous demands of stunt work, Dan sought out acting gigs with little or no luck. Recognizing where he true talent lie, an associate producer named Marla Bloom hired him to construct a special effects suit for a new movie she was pitching called Blue Devil. Dan agreed to this even putting in ever cent he owned into the design. The result was the most spectacular design that easily surpassed everything he had constructed prior to it. Dan created the Blue Devil suit to handle the rigorous stunts required for the shoot and to do so proficiently and cheaply. Marla agreed to hire Dan to perform stunts for the film and play the title character from inside. He would receive 20% of all profits from the gross of the film as well as receive a paycheck during filming. Shortly after the completion of the Blue Devil suit Marla informed Cassidy that the company who was financing the film backed out and she wouldn’t be able to reimburse him the cost of constructing the suit. Dan was now penniless and out of a job. He went back to his agent in hopes of finding work but was unsuccessful once again. He would soon discover that the movie had new finical backing, the results of which would change his life forever. Events would unfold during the filming of the movie causing a blast of supernatural energy to fuse Dan Cassidy to the skin of his greatest contraption and transforming him into a real life…Blue Devil! Will he be able to embrace his destiny when he discovers the truth about why he has become Blue Devil and who is ultimately responsible?

Base of Operations: San Fransisco Occupation: Hero for Hire HT: 6'1" WT: 190 LBS Eyes: Blue Hair: Blonde Powers and Abilities: None, but possesses advanced technology allowing flight, power blasts, force-fields and enhanced strength among other abilities. He also has claimed to have Super Microscopic vision, though this is being debated. History: Booster appeared on the scene and quickly rose to the top of the superhero game. Well, maybe to the medium of the superhero game. He worked out of Metropolis at first, but decided to head out west to California "for clearer skies" as he put it. Booster answered an ad in the paper and auditioned for the Hero for Hire team led by Millionaire Josiah Powers. After landing the job, Booster became an integral part of Powers, Inc., leading the team in a number of kills on the PSP game adapted from the movies about the Suicidal Squadron and boasting the largest DVD collection in San Francisco. Not much is known about Booster's origins to his teammates in Powers, Inc. It has only recently been revealed to them that Booster is from the future. Booster was M.I.A for much of the year following the Apokolips invasion. Eventually two of his teammates from the currently defunct Powers, Inc. found him wandering in the Antarctic with a small robot named Skeets. Upon their return to San Francisco and to the location where Powers Towers once stood the three heroes met up with another former member, Steel. They are currently rebuilding the tower and are starting work on reassembling the team. Booster has not yet felt the need to explain his absence after the crisis to his teammates or the sudden appearance of his robot friend Skeets. His close friend the Blue Beetle has his suspicions, but has yet to get a straight answer from Booster on anything.

Written by DrDread Picture by DrDread ChemoSecret Identity: None First DC2 Appearance: Adventures of Superman #6 Status:Currently in hibernation on the Moon's surface Base of Operations: Mobile Occupation: Devourer HT: Variable WT: Variable Eyes: NA Hair: NA Powers and Abilities: Chemo's body is composed of a multitude of highly corrosive acids bonded by an unknown type of energy matrix. Chemo exists solely to devour any nutrients it can find. Artificial compounds are consumed faster, but large quantities of metals and minerals can be dissolved in seconds. The mass of the dissolved materials is added to Chemo's own mass, making it larger, denser and harder to injure. Once Chemo reaches a critical mass, it will actually asexually divide into two separate Chemos. Although Chemo has no auditory nor visual receptor organs; his tactile, olfactory and gustative senses are much keener than the ordinary human senses. Chemo has no noticeable level of intelligence; in fact, it seems to operate under a very basic stimulus response system. History: Chemo coined it's name from the chemical company that created it, aptly called Chemo Inc. Originally an American company, called Chemo Co., it became enemy number one when the Environmental Protection Agency formed in 1970. After over a decade of conflicts, legal battles, and hundreds of millions of dollars in fines; Chemo Co realized it could no longer profitably operate within the United States of America. The leading research facility, located in the small African country of Zuruquai, was testing a biological breakthrough to clean hazardous waste. A bioengeneered a genus of bacteria, which would live by consuming toxins and harmful acids, was hailed as a miraculous tool to solve the world's pollution problems. However, the unicelled organism was unstable, and was quickly adapting and mutating to life outside a test tube. Additionally, an unknown type of alien energy was somehow introduced into the test sample, which caused a cataclysmic change in the Chemo bacteria. Chemo now would retain any mass it consumed, instead of breaking down acids and waste into safe by-products. It grew exponentially, to the point where the containment chamber could no longer hold it. Upon reaching it's apex of evolution, Chemo had become a disaster worse than the pollutants it was created to destroy; it pursued to consume all materials and life it would come to encounter. Fortunately for the people of Zuruquai, Superman had come to help fight the environmental disaster. A tough battle raged, where Superman found himself facing an opponent unlike any he had encountered before. The Man of Steel eventually acknowledged that Chemo was too dangerous to exist on the planet; but Chemo was a form of life and he could not destroy it with a clean conscience. Thus Superman banished Chemo to the surface of the moon, where the extreme cold would keep Chemo in a refrigerated state of suspended animation.

Having started casting simple spells at a very young age, Constantine is now able to weave most of his magics with little to no effort at all. Such as his membership in middling to poor punk band Mucus Membrane and his fondness for the Silk Cut. Those closer to him know about his best friend Chas, the cab driver who followed John to London and settled in a way Constantine never will. They might also have heard about Newcastle, and the spectre that hangs over his head. And the little fact that pretty much all of John's friends are either dead or hate him. Written by Crow Picture by Borize Name: Faust Full Name: Sebastian Faust First DC2 Appearance: House of Mystery #1 Status: Hero Base of Operations: New York City Occupation: Mage for Hire Ht: 5’8 Wt: 160 Eyes: Generally dark, misty and cloudy, but changes color when using certain abilities. His specialties include: firing mana from his hands; shadow walking; reading auras; and soul tapping, an ability where by touch he can drain not only a piece of an enemy’s soul energy, but also their powers. History: Sebastian Faust became the world’s first infant-soul mage when his father, Felix Faust, offer his son’s soul to the demon Nebiros for power. In a demonic twist of fate, Nebiros gave the immense power promised to Felix to his Felix’s son instead. Raised in Detroit, Faust grew up detached from society, mainly because of the edginess and anger he caused in others and not having any emotions, a by-product of having no soul. Faust, forever an outsider, decided to dedicate his life to magic, and his focus on soul magic. Creating “Underground”, his own “Mage for Hire” business, Faust has fought righted wrongs, for the right price, though occasionally taking up the good fight for the sake of justice. He may be no angel, but he’s definitely the ‘white sheep’ of his family.

Written by David Charlton Picture by ArtTeach Name: Hawkman Secret Identity: Carter Hall Known Former Lives: Pharaoh Khufu Ma-at Ka-Taar, Hannibal Hawkes (Nighthawk) First DC2 Appearance: The Immortal Legend of Hawkman # 0 (as Prince Khufu), The Immortal Legend of Hawkman #1 (as Carter Hall) Status: Hero Base of Operations: Manhattan, NY, Keystone City. Occupation: Curator and Field Agent of the Midway Museum, Keystone City. Lecturer at Manhattan University. HT: 6’2 WT: 190 lbs. Eyes: Brown Hair: Blond Powers and Abilities: While Professor Hall possess no innate superpowers himself, his golden Nth Metal amulet allows its wearer not only the power of flight, but also enhances all natural senses, increases physical strength to an extraordinary level and even bestows a limited amount of invulnerability. Hawkman also possesses the Claw of Horus, an Nth Metal artifact of significant but uncertain mystical power (though it is known to have overpowered the Orb of Ra), and to focus the innate abilities of the Nth Metal. The full psycho-receptive abilities of Thanagarian Nth Metal have yet to be fully plumbed, but it is just possible that long-term exposure to it may slow aging, bestow limited telepathy (especially to others with Nth Metal exposure) and may be the catalyst of certain physical metamorphoses. History: Carter Hall was the privileged son of old New York Knickerbocker aristocracy and a respected academician when in the Spring of 1938 he received a summons from an old friend on an archaeological dig in Egypt--- the tomb of the forgotten Pharaoh Khufu had been found at last. Traveling to Egypt, Carter Hall discovered that he was the latest reincarnation of the long-dead heroic Champion of Horus, and that his immortal beloved Princess Chay-Ara had also been reincarnated as opera ingénue Shiera Saunders. The two became embroiled in a millennia old drama of murder and revenge with their eternal foe, Hath-Set! Powered by the Nth Metal artifacts of an ancient Thanagarian starship recovered from Khufu’s tomb, Carter Hall took up the mantle of the Champion of Horus and became the hero known as Hawkman! Hawkman became a charter member and first Chairman of the world’s first super-team, the legendary Justice Society of America, fighting alongside his wife Hawkgirl. In the course of his career, Hawkman faced, among others, the Gentleman Ghost of Bleakhill Manor, the mesmerizing Thought Terror, the fearsome Lion-Mane, and the evil druid Dr. Trygg! Not much is known of the later career of the Winged Avenger. He was considered an ally of the lost civilization of Feithera, and may even have visited the planet Thanagar during the darkest days of the Apocalypse of the Seven Devils. It is known that he is revered there as the reincarnation of their greatest hero, Kar’ Taral--- and may even have fathered a Thanagarian son named Katar Hol. In 1951, the Halls had a son of their own, Hector*, but their happiness was short-lived. Challenged once more by their nemesis Hath-Set (reincarnated as the villainous Anton Hastor), the Hawks disappeared, never to be heard from again. * Hector was raised by his maternal uncle, Greg “Speed” Saunders, and briefly followed in his parents superheroic footsteps as the hero Silver Scarab, before retiring to a life of quiet contemplation as curator of Midway Museum.

It was during this time that Helena’s eyes became open to what her father was, and what her brother was turning into. Although she tried desperately to save her brother, it was to no avail. After failing his father on several jobs, bringing scorn and shame upon the family, he killed himself by over-dosing on heroin. A now fully grown Helena blamed her father and vowed to bring him, and other mob bosses like him, down. She kept tabs on her father’s dealings by befriending his right hand man, Bernie. They began a passionate, but brief affair, though they maintain a strong friendship. Reading an article in a local paper on Gotham City’s mythological vigilante, The Batman, she decided to travel there, determined to prove his existence and demand that he train her. She did indeed disappear for a year, last seen entering Gotham, but who trained her, and where she went after that, is still a mystery. She eventually returned to Las Vegas and quickly took up residence as the crime-fighter, Huntress. Not too long after she began her crusade against Vegas’ nasty under-world, she ran across the newly arrived Batgirl, and later Vigilante, who was trying to kill her father. She saved her father’s life, revealing her identity to him in the process. Later she and Vigilante both were approached by Batgirl to help save other costumed hero’s from the clutches of Roulette. She joined the other five members of the newly formed New Outsiders. Since then she has grown to have feelings and an intimate relationship with her team-mate, the emotionally unstable Vigilante. She has just recently discovered that her father may have been the man to have Vigilante’s wife, murdered. Although she has vowed to stop her father’s criminal dealings, she will not allow him to be killed, but how will she stop the man she could possibly be falling in love with?

Then, reaching across space and time, he was seized by the teleportation machine of Earth scientist, Dr. Saul Erdel, and instantly transported to that world! Appalled by his success, and at the frightful image of the Martian in his native form, Dr. Erdel had a heart attack and died on the spot, for which J’onn always blamed himself. J’onn found himself in America of the 1950s, and took steps to try to fit into his new home. Becoming instantly enamored of Hollywood film noir, he adapted the persona of John Jones, working first as a police man, and later as a private detective. And in keeping with his role as protector of society, he followed in the footsteps of the newly-retired JSA as the superhero called the Martian Manhunter, one of the few of that time period. Time after time, he saved the world from such threats as Dr. Zero and the Future-Men, and Tyrantula the Spider King, but eventually retired from the public arena, finding greater fulfillment living amongst humans, not above them. J’onn has constructed a secret refuge on earth, deep within the rainforest of the Amazon Jungle, called Z’onn Z’orr. It is his sanctuary from the violence and raging passions of humanity, a sublime melding of colorful flora and exotic fauna, and reminiscent of the fluidity, grace and beauty of Martian society. Also, he operates John Jones Investigations, a private detective office dedicated to helping the most needy, and is assisted in this by his loyal secretary Audrey Carroll. Recently, J’onn J’onzz was sought out by Darkseid in the mad god’s quest for the Anti-Life Equation, the Martian DNA holding a fragment of the formula. J’onn was part of the superhero team that defeated the Apokoliptian invasion of Earth and thwarted Darkseid’s ambitions, and as a result, he has revived his career as the Martian Manhunter. The Martian Manhunter is a founding member of the Justice League, and has re-committed himself to protecting his adopted planet from whatever danger may threaten.

Written by Brian Burchette Picture by DrDread Name: Roulette Secret Identity: Victoria Sinclair Aliases: None First DC2 Appearance: The New Outsiders #0 Status: Villain Base of Operation: Formerly the Nevada desert Occupation: Former Casino owner HT: 5’11” WT: 125lbs Eyes: Green Hair: Red Powers and Abilities: She is practically superhuman in her ability to count cards, as well as analyze people’s gestures, and body movement; thus allowing her to predict with uncanny accuracy an opponent’s next move. History: The early history of Victoria Sinclair is shrouded in mystery. Any record of her existence before 1996 has yet to be found. No birth certificate or any government document has ever been uncovered. Simply put, Victoria Sinclair did not exist until her eighteenth birthday. On that day she married her only husband in a small chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is believed that Victoria came from old money, which she used with her husband to build their first casino, just off the strip. Although it did not do exceptionally well, they were able to maintain it for a few years, until they were forced to close it down do to the large growth of the super hotel’s and casino’s that were being built. Not one to take defeat well, Victoria next used her money to build an underground casino that would cater to the meta-human community. It also doubled as a vicious “fight club” arena for super villains. It was during this time that Sinclair’s husband was rumored to have been cheating on her with one of the workers. Several days later her husband disappeared and was never seen or heard from again. She informed the staff that he went to live abroad, but there has always been speculation on what the final fate of her husband really was. Although Victoria had created a huge casino with theme rooms designed to cater to the meta-human community, she was once again faced with financial problems. It was at this time that she began to attract super-rich gamblers by pitting kidnapped members of the superhero community against each other. Her casino became the most popular place for the super villain community to frequent. Although no one knows for sure how she received the name Roulette, legend has it that it was given to her by billionaire Lex Luthor on one of his many visits to the complex. Her luck turned sour once again when she kidnapped Jefferson Pierce, also known as Black Lightening. She had not expected his good friend, Green Arrow, to come looking for him. She had also hired a young magician by the name of Zatanna, whose own lineage came from a very strong super-hero family. With the help of the young magician, as well as several other heroes, Green Arrow was able to defeat Roulette, rescue Black Lightening, and put a stop to Roulette’s casino and “fight club”. In fact it can be said that it was Roulette who actually, and accidentally, formed the super-hero team, the New Outsiders. Although she was taken to jail to await trial, she recently escaped during a world wide crisis that had caused enough chaos and damage to the jail, for her to get away. Her whereabouts are at the moment, unknown…

Written by Susan Hillwig Picture by Ramon Villalobos Name: Star-Spangled Kid Secret Identity: Sylvester Pemberton, Jr. Status: Hero Base of Operations: New York City Group Affiliation: Law's Legionnaires AKA The Seven Soldiers of Victory Occupation: College Student Known Relatives: Sylvester Pemberton, Sr. (father), Gloria Pemberton (mother) Height: 5' 8" Weight: 136 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Powers and Abilities: Possessing no actual superpowers, Star-Spangled Kid uses his cosmic converter belt to give him enhanced strength and speed, as well as the ability to fly and project energy blasts. Without the belt, he is a superb athlete and hand-to-hand combatant, having been trained by Stripe himself. Name: Stripe Secret Identity: Patrick Dugan Status: Hero Base of Operations: New York City Group Affiliation: Law's Legionnaires AKA The Seven Soldiers of Victory Occupation: Head of Research and Development for Pemberton Industries Known Relatives: None Height: 6' 1" Weight: 210 lbs. Eyes: Blue Hair: Red Powers and Abilities: A self-taught engineer, Stripe is a genius with mechanics, having invented many of the devices used by himself and the Star-Spangled Kid. He is also an excellent boxer and wrestler, with plenty of brawn to back up his brains. History: In 1940, Pemberton Industries was leading the way in mechanical and commercial development, with many government contracts to its credit. Pat Dugan felt it would be the perfect place for him and applied to work in their research division, figuring that his innovative design ideas would make them overlook his lack of formal education. Instead, they assigned him to the motor pool...and even worse, they saddled him with the job of chauffeuring the boss’s son around. The situation wasn’t exactly ideal for thirteen-year-old Sylvester, either, who was tired of his overprotective parents sheltering him from anything that might give him even a minor scrape -- he saw the burly Dugan as just a bodyguard in disguise. The two of them begrudgingly made the best of the arrangement, all the while looking for a way out of it. But all that changed one day, when Pat was driving his young charge to the movies -- a patriotic film was playing, and a pro-Nazi group had gathered outside, starting a riot. Without a word, Dugan and Pemberton leapt into the fray, taking down the Nazis and holding them at bay until the police arrived. After that incident, they each saw the other in a different light, and the friction between them disappeared. They also both felt that, just as the Nazis saw themselves as representing Germany, someone should step up to represent America -- a living symbol of the flag that people could look up to. So the two of them decided to do just that, creating costumed identities modeled after the American flag and setting out to fight their country's enemies as the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripe. Originally working alone, the duo soon began crossing paths with other "mystery men" of the time. One such encounter led to a brief partnership with astronomer Ted Knight (see Starman) who helped Dugan create a device called the cosmic converter belt -- using similar technology to Starman's own cosmic rod -- to give his younger partner an edge over their opponents. Not long after that, near the end of 1941, the Kid and Stripe joined up with five other heroes to take down a secret organization called the Iron Hand. With the shadow of World War II looming over the United States, these seven heroes later decided they could serve their country best as a team instead of individually, and formally banded together as the Law's Legionnaires (see The Seven Soldiers of Victory), defending their home soil as many of the more powerful heroes went overseas to fight the Axis powers. As the years passed and the war ended, Pat and Sylvester worked together less and less: the young man had moved on to college so as to better prepare for the day when he inherited Pemberton Industries, while his mentor had finally made some headway in the company himself, eventually becoming in charge of research in development. There were still times, however, when one would put out a call to the other, and they'd both suit up and take on whatever evils were thrown their way. Sadly, it all came to an abrupt end in 1948, when the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripe disappeared while on a mission with the Law's Legionnaires. The circumstances of their disappearance, as well as the fates of the rest of the Soldiers, remains a mystery to this day.

Written by David Charlton Picture by ArtTeach Name: Superman Secret Identity: Clark Joseph Kent Birth Name: Kal-El First DC2 Appearance: Adventures of Superman #0 Status: Hero Base of Operations: Smallville and Metropolis Occupation: Journalist for the Metropolis Daily Planet (on sabbatical); farmer. HT: 6’3’’ WT: 235 lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Black Powers and Abilities: His Kryptonian physiology absorbs immense energy from Earth's yellow sun, enabling him to fly at incredible speeds, and endowing him with super-strength, invulnerability (his only weaknesses being green kryptonite radiation, the rays of a red sun and magic), ultra-acute hearing, freezing breath, immense lung capacity and a range of vision including X-ray vision (he can see through anything but lead) and heat vision. History: Rocketed to earth as a child from the doomed planet Krypton by his father, the brilliant scientist Jor-El, baby Kal-El was discovered and raised by Kansas farmers Jonathan and Martha Kent as their own. Raised on the exploits of the legendary Justice Society of America, and his own personal hero Captain Marvel, Clark Kent had an idyllic life growing up in Smallville with his close friends Pete Ross and Lana Lang. It wasn't until his late teens that he began to discover the amazing effects of a yellow sun on his alien physique, though he hid these powers from all except his parents, who chose this time to reveal to their son his Kryptonian heritage, unveiling to him the spacecraft they had found him in 18 years ago. From it, Clark discovered the history of his doomed birth planet, and a mysterious object called a tesseract which he would transport to a remote location in the Antarctic and retreat to as a fortress of solitude. Clark left Smallville and wandered the globe for two years, testing his powers, exploring his Kryptonian heritage in the fortress, and learning about the world. It was then he decided to honor the values of his Earth parents Jonathan and Martha and dedicate his life to the cause of Truth, Justice and liberty for all! At twenty, Clark resurfaced in Metropolis and attended the university, majoring in journalism and graduating four years later with honors. He spent a year as an intern at the Daily Planet, until the day when a superpowered maniac called the Parasite escaped from S.T.A.R Labs and began ravaging the city. The hero Captain Marvel arrived on the scene, but was overwhelmed by the villain, and Clark rose up, following his example and wearing the uniform his mother sewed him, and came to the rescue of his childhood hero. Thus Superman was born! Cub reporter Clark Kent scooped the Planet's hotshot young superstar Lois Lane, and Kent was promoted to the bullpen, beginning a friendly rivalry that persists to this day. In the years since, Superman has protected the great city of Metropolis, and his adopted planet, continuing the legacy of Captain Marvel, and coming into conflict with not just supervillains and the forces of tyranny, but megalomaniacal businessman Lex Luthor, who sees the Last Son of Krypton as a rival and a threat to the security of Earth itself--- and vows to destroy him! In the recent Crisis, Superman was taken down by his long-lost half-brother Kru-El, transformed into the monster Doomsday by Apokoliptian science. In a daring rescue orchestrated by Wonder Woman, Captain Marvel the Elder gave his life to free Superman, a sacrifice that the Man of Steel will never forget. In the aftermath of the invasion of Earth, Clark Kent relocated back to Smallville to help his mother get the Kent Family farm back on its feet, for his father Jonathan had perished in the Crisis. Newly reunited with his old friends Lana Lang and Pete Ross, he must contend with his growing feelings for Lois Lane and the possibility of a rekindled romance with Lana Lang. Superman is a stalwart member of the Justice League, and is widely considered the world’s greatest hero.

Written by David Charlton Picture by Ramon Villalobos Name: Zatara the Magician Secret Identity: Giovanni Zatara Aliases: John Zatara First DC2 Appearance: DC2 Special# 2 "An Arkham Christmas Carol" Status:Hero Base of Operations: Shadowcrest Manor, Westchester, NY Occupation:Stage magician HT: 5’11’’ WT: 170 lbs Eyes: Blue Hair: Black (early gray at the temples) Powers and Abilities: By speaking his spells backwards, Zatara can work real magic. Also, he is a master of disguise, adept at sleight-of-hand techniques, and a gifted stage performer. History: Born in Italy in 1919, young Giovanni Zatara was given a book of magic tricks by his grandfather Luigi, thus beginning a lifelong fascination with the mystic arts. He practiced his craft everyday, and soon could not be surpassed at minor illusions and sleight-of-hand tricks. But Zatara wanted more. He sought out and apprenticed himself to the legendary Corsican sorcerer Il Magnifico, and under the wizened old man’s tutelage, Zatara was exposed to the Lost Journals of Paracelsus, a library of real magic by his own ancestor Leonardo Da Vinci. Within the pages of those ancient tomes, Zatara discovered the secret to harnessing true power, and he was made to vow to use it only for good. At 19, he emulated his hero Houdini, and took his show on the road, lighting up the stages of Old Europe, and soon gained a world-class reputation as a performer and magician, collecting a loyal Asian manservant named Tong. His top hat and cane became his trademark, and audiences were enthralled by the young man. But he soon gained the notice of more sinister forces, as well. Sensing his real power, the immortal Egyptian necromancer Amon-Hotep determined to put an end to Zatara, but was frustrated at their every meeting. Still, dark forces watched the young magician as diligently as he tried to expose them, but he was always one step ahead of their deadly snares. In the winter of 1938, Zatara took his act to America, anglicizing his first name to John, and became a minor sensation on the New York show circuit. It was there that he was known to join forces, from time to time, with the superheroes of the newly-formed Justice Society of America. His house, Shadowcrest Manor, was also known as a gathering spot for a secret brotherhood of mystic comrades-in-arms, such as Dr. Occult, Tor the Magic Master, Dr. Fate, Sargon the Sorcerer, and Ibis the Invincible. Not much is known of Zatara’s later life. His adventuresome spirit and wanderlust often found him on the road, exposing charlatans and fakirs and fighting a never-ending battle against the dark magical forces always on the verge of overrunning humanity. On his travels, he met and fell in love with a woman named Sindella, a member of a hidden race of magical beings called homo magi. The two were happy for a while, having at least one daughter, which they named Zatanna. But Sindella disappeared under mysterious circumstances, as did all traces of the Hidden City of the homo magi. Zatanna grew up at Shadowcrest Manor, practically raised by her father’s trusted manservant Tong, while Zatara searched the world for his beloved Sindella. He returned to America seldomly, but often enough to see that his daughter had inherited her parents’ magical ability. Then there came a day when Zatara embarked on what he called his most dangerous mission, entrusting his daughter with the Lost Journals of Paracelsus. He never returned. Zatanna was 13 years old. But the world spun faster outside the mystic walls of Shadowcrest Manor. When Zatanna finally left those familiar precincts behind to make her way in the world, decades had passed, and it was the 21st Century. And the name of Zatara the Magician had long been forgotten…

Written by Sam Harrison Picture by AICarlos Name: Zenobia Secret Identity: Man's world knows her only as Wonder Woman, but her identity is not secret. Aliases: Wonder Woman, Ares' Champion. First DC2 Appearance: Wonder Woman #9 Status: In hiding. Base of Operations: The Island of Themyscira Occupation: Superhero. HT: 6'1'' WT: 145 lbs Eyes: Brown Hair: Brown Powers and Abilities: The full extent of her abilities are unknown, but Zenobia has displayed many of the powers that Diana had as Wonder Woman and, as she has Diana's costume, can use any of the abilities that are associated with that. History: She has been many things in her lifetime, Lost Amazon, Hippolytus' lover, Champion of Ares and most recently Wonder Woman. Zenobia spent many years wandering the void with her Lost Amazon sisters before they returned to Themyscira during the battle between the Amazons and the forces of Tartarus. When Diana, then Wonder Woman, beat them back to Tartarus the Lost Amazons settled on Themyscira. Unfortunately they had been away too long and their way of life was drastically different, more warlike in opposition to the Themysciran doctrine of peace. Trouble erupted across the island, much of it instigated by Zenobia. Diana decided the only way to solve this was to marry Hippolytus, Zenobia's former lover, and unite the Amazons under one ruling couple. Outraged that the man she loved would not only bow to Diana's wishes but that he could forsake her for another woman Zenobia went and begged the statue of Lost Amazon patron Ares to kill Diana. Ares decided to grant her wish and gave Zenobia a blessing like that of Diana so that she could defeat her in single combat. Sure enough, the day after Diana married Hippolytus, Zenobia challenged and defeated Diana as she was exhausted from all the fighting she'd been doing for the past few months. Zenobia rightfully took her place as Wonder Woman, after all Diana had won the mantle in a tournament in the first place. Zenobia was Wonder Woman for over a year after the Apokoliptian Crisis, and she carried out this role with gusto, sometimes delivering harsher forms of justice than were really necessary. Recently Diana fought Zenobia again and won. Athena then appeared to the both of them and told them that Wonder Woman was her champion and not a mantle that could be traded. Distraught at her loss and at hearing this, Zenobia disappeared. But it's not the last time she and Diana will meet...

Written by House Of Mystery Picture by Adam Tupper and ArtTeach Victor ZsaszFirst DC2 Appearance: Batman #11 Status: Villain Base of Operations: Gotham HT: 5’ 11’’ WT: 135 Hair: Blonde Eyes: Blue Weapons/Abilities: Victor Zsasz has lots of knives but no metahuman abilities, he is, however, athletic and agile from constant exercise. He can make any pointed object into a weapon, and once blinded a guard with an eraser. A very sharp eraser. History:Victor Zsasz is not insane. He is not a lunatic and he does not need to kill. He WANTS to. He wants to experience the sensation of murder because he likes the way his victim's eyes roll back in their heads as he plunges his knife into them and frees them from their pedantic, repetitive lives. But Victor Zsasz is not insane. Zsasz was a successful business man who ran his own property development business, and who was involved in contracts with Wayne Enterprises and Luthor Corp before he turned. His wife left him, he fell into drink and then experienced suicidal depression, and when he went to the docks to drown himself, that all changed. A homeless man attempted to rob him, and in the struggle Victor got ahold of his knife and killed his attacker, and it was then that he realised what was missing from his life. From then on Gotham was the victim of a horrific murder spree, where people had their throats slashed and were left in lifelike positions for the police and citizens to find them. It took months to find the killer, and it was only by a sheer fluke. Because Victor Zsasz wanted to remember each life he took, and he wanted to feel that little bit of pain so he understood what his victims went through, so when a business partner of his saw the mark on his wrist, the tally marks, Victor snapped, and murdered half a dozen prominent business men and women on security camera, and after a weeklong manhunt, Batman brought him in, and for six years he wasted away in Arkham Asylum, waiting, plotting, planning for his next chance to kill, and to gain his revenge on Batman... Something to note is that Victor Zsasz is no known relative of Victor Szasz, as their names are spelt differently.
