Lots going on in this anniversary issue, and quite a few stories not written by me, so I feel more than comfortable in commenting
The Case of the Emerald LanternBrian really knocked it out of the park with this Elseworlds story! I think we both really enjoyed the premise, so much so that Brian is joining the
Green Lantern Corps creative team for a series of back-ups in the same universe as this! Every little moment was brilliant and I remember laughing out loud when I initially read it back before the issue launched. It was this line that killed me:
...if her dress had been yellow I woulda’ been putty in her hands
. I just loved it. A great, noir-ish take on the Green Lantern mythos without any high flying or emerald boxing gloves. Thanks for taking part, Brian!
Electric Sound
Fantomas came up with a really cool concept for this story and while the finished product wasn't what was initially planned, I was pulled in when it arrived. I'm not a MASSIVE fan of Alan Moore's Green Lantern stuff, but Rot Lop Fan as F Sharp Bell was a nice, whimsical concept that made perfect sense to a wider universe, so it was nice seeing him in story beyond Alan Moore's. A tight, punchy story with a hint of the alien that I really liked. Cheers, Fant!
Target: Green Lantern! The modern day Green Lantern meets the golden age Green Lantern in a story from David Charlton! Plumbing the depths of DC2 continuity and coming up with a really nice, continuity-rich story for this anniversary special, David bat it out the park. I loved the pitch when David gave it to me, and the story delivers. This story could have fit right in during the original
Tales of the Green Lantern Corps run before
The Apokolips Imperative arrived, and there are so many hints and nods to what came before and what's coming that I couldn't help but love it. As ever, David... thanks!
Impressive.
Jay and I were discussing what he could write for the special and I knew that I wanted to mine the relationship between Arisia and Guy that's been building over the last seven issues, so it was fortuitous that he was up for giving it a shot! The story went through some iterations that were tight but not
exactly what was needed, but the final product, with Guy still a bit shaky after his Legion Virus experience, their flirtatious interactions, I really liked it. Thanks for taking part, Jay.
Black & WhiteA follow up to one of the scariest Green Lantern stories on the site! If you've read my
Previously write-up in the issue you'll know how much
Eye of the Beholder, the DC2 debut of Black Hand, impacted me. It was horrifying! And now we get a pseudo-sequel, and the tease of a follow up? Brilliant! This was everything it needed to be, and I'm terrified about what Black Hand-- and the White Magician!-- will be doing next. Here's looking to 2014! Thanks again, John.
Before Mogo Doesn’t SocializeI was really chuffed that Mark agreed to contribute to the anniversary issue, and I wasn't disappointed when the story arrived. Ch'p, Mogo, all the Lanterns involved, everything was perfect, with a thick vein of humour that I've come to expect from Mark arriving with it. Everything was pitch perfect, every line of dialogue, every story beat, building towards a great punchline that I know
I don't have me. Thanks for taking the time, Mark.

So, you might have noticed the teaser at the end of #50, and you are RIGHT, we are launching a
Green Lantern Corps title in 2014! The cast got so big and I wanted to do so much stuff with these characters that it made perfect sense to do so, and I have assembled
one hell of a team to help get the
Green Lantern titles running through the coming months.
Don has agreed to come back and edit the
GL family of books, and his insight and editorial suggestions have been great so far (I hope
). Alex has agreed to co-write
Green Lantern Corps and Scott has agreed to do the first round of covers! Brian is going to be working on some back-ups for the
GLC title then Don has something planned, so if you want to write some
Green Lantern stories just get in touch, we'll figure something out. I'm still on
Green Lantern, and Alex is still on covers, so we're in for an exciting time. Check out the
Green Lantern Corps #1 teaser below:
So 2014 is going to the THE YEAR OF GREEN LANTERN, and I intend to deliver some rollicking stories that keep you coming back for more. I know DrDread has agreed to fill in some gaps when it comes to Green Lantern Corps: Liberation's covers, so keep an eye out for that (don't worry, I'll let you know when they're live, inevitably ) and keep coming back month after month for double the dose of Green Lantern, coming to early 2014.
Next month's Jordan-centric Christmas issue is written, as is January's John Stewart-centric story, and then we a number of "aftermath" stories for Scarlet Reign coming out focusing on the main players of GLC. Keep an eye out for Green Lanterns appearing across the DC2 in the coming months! There are lots of plans!
Thanks for taking the time and thanks for reading my twenty fifth issue of Green Lantern!
