Nathan has kindly approved the sharing of his process on this cover, and I think it's a beautiful transformation. Check it out below:

I have started the "pilot" for The Authority again this weekend, and I'm optimistic I've found a hook to launch the book on. I know where I want to go with the title, but the problem is, getting there, having the first issue, that's causing me stress. I've got about three thousand words all-in-all from the various attempts to make this thing work, but I'm probably going to have to jettison that to make progress.
Anyone had a chance to read the "series finale" we put live for Ten Years Later?

I'm quite disappointed no-one took a look at this story. I was really proud of how it turned out! And than Nathan Kilburn cover... Absolutely beautiful.

I actually read this when it came out. It’s an epic unlike anything else I’ve read on this site and kept me enthralled even with my lack of knowledge of these characters (mainly the Wildstorm guys).

I wrote a longer response to this earlier today but lost it ( ) so let's see if I can recoup that... I actually read this when it came out. It’s an epic unlike anything else I’ve read on this site and kept me enthralled even with my lack of knowledge of these characters (mainly the Wildstorm guys). One of the things Mark said to me when he kindly agreed to edit this issue was that it didn't feel accessible to new readers. With my current "present day" content like Green Lantern Corps and Justice League I'm using Previously, In... recaps at the top of the issue and numerous instances of footnotes to point the reader in the direction of the wilder world I'm always referencing. Due to the nature of this story, that wasn't so easy, but I realised this morning that there were so many missed opportunities to go crazy and reference things that happened in the 10+ years time spent aboard the Carrier! It would have been mad, but here's the place to go crazy with this kind of thing, don't you think? One of Jim Shooter's rules during his tenure as Marvel EiC was that every issue could be somebody's first, so that's why there were these lengthy recaps of the previous issue in the latest. I've tried subscribing to that recently, and I did try to make this book accessible. I'm sorry if my use of the characters didn't give you more to go on, but I'm glad you were engaged by it. I keep thinking I'll come back to this as a series (there's planning behind the scenes where a few of us have generated story ideas) but it's quite a difficult book to get off the ground. I think once the story about how they get lost in the multiverse is told, then the stories will come out easily, but getting there is damn difficult. I read an intereview with Gerard Way recently where he said that Grant Morrison recommended that you should use all your best ideas straight away, and not save them for later. I've been thinking about that a lot, recently. I've got this big, twenty five issue plan over in Justice League that needs all these stories seeding so I can't blow off all the story ideas and just do what Morrison says there, but maybe with The Authority, I should just go whole hog. Who knows! (I got rambly and aggravated as losing everything I wrote earlier. Sorry for the tangents!)

If I may say so, I think the idea of making a fanfiction with the theme "Superman & the Authority" could be really cool.
At first, the reader could disagree and say that Superman would not be good working with a team like The Authority , but those who follow the character know that in recent times the Superman has become a much more proactive hero in combating threats from Universal scope and that the current version of Superman is a hero perfectly capable of maintaining absolute equality and commanding the members of team The Authority asserting his authority as group leader and keeping himself on the same level as heroes equal : Apollo , Midnighter , Jack Hawksmoor , The Doctor , Jenny Sparx , Jenny Quantum , Swift , Engineer and other characters owing absolutely nothing to them and being able to effectively lead a version of the supergroup The Authority showing itself capable of making decisions on which depend the life and survival of all of creation and even "doing good through evil" and lead a team of meta-humans so powerful they prove to be the Ultimate Force of the all Multiverse .
I think "Superman & the Authority" might be a cool theme for a fanfiction with Superman leading a version of group The Authority with alternative versions of all its members from different worlds of the New Multiverse DC .
For example an alternative version of Jack Hawksmoor that would be the personalized embodiment in a living being of the spirit of human civilization and all that it was , is and can actually become .
The Doctor who would be the mortal host of the Supreme Lord of the Order simply the first and most absolutely powerful of these entities born before the beginning of Universe and such a mage capable of calling Nabu the Wise of "apprentice" .
An Engineer who would be a Super Cyborg similar and possibly superior in technological sophistication and scientific genius to Victor Stone whose body would be composed of solidified quantum nanoparticles that would make your cybernetically reconstructed body would be a technological wonder of the last generation that would give her super powers limited only by her scientific knowledge, understanding, ingenuity, boldness and courage .
A Jenny Sparx who would be an "Goddess of Winds and Storms" capable of controlling the elements of weather and conjuring electrical storms so powerful she could call Marvel Comics' Storm an "amateur" .
A Jenny Quantum that would have powers to rival those of Doctor Manhattan .
And an Swift Alien Eastern Thanagarian that would be the "winged fury" the "born warrior female eastern mess with me or with any of my friends and you is dead" of the group besides of course versions of other Universes of the New DC Multiverse from Apollo and Midnighter that led by Superman would form a new version of group The Authority that would travel through the New DC Multiverse resolving crises !
It would be just wonderful to be able to read a fanfiction with Superman & The Authority ! What do you think of these ideas I gave you to make a fanfiction with this theme?
