This whole story is a bit of a joke now, isn’t it? Part 1 launched it in July ‘16, Part 2 in September ‘16, Part 3 in November ‘16, Part 4 in July ‘17 and now the latest chapter, Part 5, just now in January ‘18.
Five issues in nineteen months. No end in sight. All in the spirt of celebrating the tenth anniversary of the DC2niverse. And in the spirit of the site, the further on it’s been going, the more it’s ran late!
Anyway, I wrapped up the fifth part a few minutes before posting it, and thought it worth just posting it because I want to try and get more done this year. If there are any typos that’s on me.
If I can get more than three issues done this year, I’ll be happy, because that’s more than I’ve done previously. I need this story to finish, or reach a certain point, because Susan Hillwig’s 10YL epic staring Jonah Hex is being held up by my slowness. That’s what I really feel terrible about.
I know what needs to happen in Part 6, and then Part 7 is going to be a corker, and I’m thinking that it makes sense to conclude with Part 10. My one worry is that there’s so much going on that bits and pieces might get not get picked up the issue after, as I’m trying to focus on some bits over others as I go. I do have a plan, and I think it might allow for ten issues total. That’ll be an interesting end result.
I’ve taken the dearly departed Brandon Herren’s design work for the Young All-Stars and dressed them as the covers, because I think it’s worth seeing his last work on the site. Just posting it as “Hey, look at this!” doesn’t do it justice, but having it on display as covers for the world to see is a fitting tribute to him. I miss his art, I miss his eye, and I hope the story delivers how it should.
It’s a more technically experimental issue than previous ones. I’ve taken chunks from previous issues to reinforce the current one. Character descriptions, echoes of events, something to give the story a lived-in feel… I also took some dialogue from old DC issues to give it a different flavour. I don’t know how it’ll end up, but it’s here. Let’s see where it goes next.

Considering that I've had three-year delays between issues on my own titles, I don't think your timing is that bad!
This story bounced around, but it dropped some important pieces into place. I was expecting more with Equinox...maybe next issue?

Considering that I've had three-year delays between issues on my own titles, I don't think your timing is that bad! Where's Lamentation Day #2? Yeah, I think we've all offered up a proper smorgasbord of delays across the life of the site! This story bounced around, but it dropped some important pieces into place. I was expecting more with Equinox...maybe next issue? What I'm finding is that Omega Crisis is almost an anthology in itself. There are so many characters and so many events that all deserve attention, and I'm terrified that I'm going to let one of the numerous spinning plates drop from lack of attention! That said, Equinox will get a hell of a lot more attention, as will the time shrinkage plot, next issue. I try to plot stuff out quite thoroughly so I know what I've got to do in any project-- it's one of the reasons Most Wanted has been quite easy to churn through, because I plotted it so severely when I had the time-- and there are twenty individual scenes as of right now that I need to write. That's... a lot. I might have taken on a lot more than I intended to when I started planning this god damn year.

Omega Crisis #6 is ready! We'll go live in a few weeks, as per the weird schedule I shared last week.
This issue, Oblique is joining me on writing duties for one of the numerous threads we're exploring, and then after that Susan is coming on board as well to steer another to it's inevitable conclusion! I'm very excited to be sharing the weight of this massive series... we're really tapping into the past, present and future of the site in various ways, and I love some symbolism, me.

And if you're interested, this freak of nature lands at 19,500+ words, so it's also the longest issue of the series yet. I'll be really interested to see what the total word count of Omega Crisis ends up as... I wonder if I'll have effectively written (with help from my respected compatriots) a DC2 novel??
