Roy Harper (Arsenal)
Originally the sidekick of Green Arrow, the man once known as Speedy fell into a downward spiral of drugs and debauchery early on, only to emerge stronger than ever thanks to the support of the Teen Titans. He was recruited into the Checkmate fold early, but after going deep undercover and later returning a year later with a baby daughter, he’s currently on limited duty as he tries to juggle his multiple lives as a superhero, government agent and young father. Just don't call him Speedy.
Thomas ‘Tommy’ Jagger
Master of the martial arts and son of the second world war hero Hadley ‘Rip’ Jagger, Tommy was initially raised in Nanda Parbat before travelling to America to start college. After the Apokolips Invasion, he joined the United States Navy and later became a SEAL, before being recruited by the CIA's elite Special Operations Group (SOG). His career of excellence led to his recruitment into Checkmate, where he acts as a trouble shooter for the White King.
Kishana Muldair
From her youth, Indio-Irish intelligence operative Kishana Muldair was always destined for greatness, having been recruited young by MI5, then working up their ranks before being poached by the GCHQ. Kishana was quickly recruited by Checkmate, where she acts as the liaison between the analysts of the White side and the White King himself, who welcomes her insight on all cases that cross his desk. Most predict her own ascension to the role of White King, in due time...
Johnny "Genius" Jones
As a child, Johnny Jones was marooned on a deserted island with shipment of books destined for a library in New Zealand. Surviving by memorizing every word in the books thanks to his photographic memory, Jones eventually returned to civilisation and set himself up as a consultant who would answer any question for a dime. His unique origin led to his recruitment into Checkmate, where he seeks new answers to new questions every day.
Loretta Hancock
A born genius who knew nothing but violence since childhood, Loretta was recruited by Checkmate, and given a direction in life away from the gangster lifestyle that threatened to consume her. Originally, the greatest fear her superiors had was that she might use her military mind to turn against them, but her loyalty to Checkmate is without question, as she provides insight and intelligence beyond what they were receiving before her time.
Jan Tebbel
Pattern analysis savant and anxiety-ridden wreck in equal measure, Danish citizen Jan Tebbel faithfully serves Checkmate as an analyst, though she dreams of one day migrating from the White intelligence side to the Black field operations realm, but she’s well aware that her nervous disposition holds her back!
Anatoly Litvinenko
The old man of the intelligence community set, Anatoly hopes to retire within the Checkmate framework, having plied his trade across the long decades and through numerous regimes. Though his practical experience is far removed from the present day, his nitty gritty understanding of humanity allows him an insight that the younger generation could never hope to have.
Anissa Pierce
When you’re the eldest daughter of Black Lightning, it’s inevitable you’d want to join the family business, and Anissa Pierce is no exception! But her father is no fool, and Jefferson has made her promise to finish college before putting on a mask, and thanks to his political connections, he’s also arranged for her to work at Checkmate, where she hopes to prove her worth and receive the extra-curricular training that will benefit her when she puts on her own superhero costume!
Eliza ‘Liz’ and Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Danvers
They say that relationships can’t survive in the tumultuous life of an espionage agent, but the Danvers continually prove the nay-sayers wrong, their decades long relationship spanning their careers as intelligence operatives. Now they work as domestic analysts, flitting from state to state at the behest of the White King, investigating whatever case requires their expert attention, using the travel opportunities to enjoy their Nth honeymoon!
