I mean realistically, we got enough talents here to publish real comic books. Even monthlies. What I'm thinking is simple. 1.) An anthology book. Maybe 4 6-pager stories (I think 6 pages is doable for an artist... in a month. We'll need 4 artists) . Total of 24 pages. 2.) To be released in digital only (as I don't know the mechanics of shipping.) What we need: 1.) People to run the campaign (I can help but I really feel I don't have the talent for this. I can contribute in the promo art though that's for certain.) I think there are a few here who can do this. I mean this site has been run by creative folks for decades now 2.) At least 4 artists to commit. I can pick up the slack if there aren't enough hands. My wish list (if possible): 1.) I'm hoping for a Superhero Universe. Writers can make their own Superheroes. Maybe we can do team ups or crossovers in the future issues to make it a cohesive universe? We can maybe also add vertigo like things or Western (Hi Suzie ) 2.) Profit sharing. If this becomes successful, some members maybe able to do this full time. We can also most assuredly get artists working on the book if they get compensation. That's it really. Not very complicated. If it fails, at the very least: 1.) We can publish the book on Amazon, Lulu or Comixology (profit share still in effect) 2.) Have fun and learn from the experience. Who wants to play?! P.S. I love lists

The Profit Share MdoelI'm proposing this simple profit share model. 1 Story = 1 Share If we have 4 stories. 1 story gets 25%. Then Writer and Artist can divide from that share. If we get 5 stories, then 1 story gets 20% share of the profits. ------ My proposed model for the Writer/Artist share: They can go 50/50 or whatever they agreed upon but might I suggest a default of 40 - Writer / 60 - Artist (because let's face it, Art is labor intensive. This model might be more attractive to the artist, also to help them push through completion.) ------ The model is also flexible if you have co-writers,they can just go 50/50 on the Writer's share. For artists it might be different, it could be 60 (Pencil/Inks) / 40 (Coloring) ... or whatever they agreed upon. ------ Might I suggest all involved make a Paypal account. It's safe and secure and makes profit distribution easier. ------ Now I don't care if I make only $5 for this (but I'm hoping it could be more ) The important things is publishing work out there. A nice profit would be validation and keep the project going. This could also open doors and change lives ~JOe

Also, the Project Motto is KISS (Keep It Simple, Silly.) Let's not overthink it.
When I was in Grade School, we just fold Copy Paper and draw on it with ball point pen and we'd make Comic Books!
Everyone here is an experience hand, I think we could make something better than that!! lol

Any time I'm invited to look at a project that has both Joe and Roy signed on, I look.
It's always fun to get creative with folks at the DC2. The biggest obstacle I've always had (at least in recent years) has been finding the time, but this is very tempting.
Oh, heck. You only live once. You should do fun things. Count me in.

A long time ago before the age of the internet, some friends and I actually did our own comic. It was a Superhero team. Justus for Justice. (go ahead and laugh) Myself and a friend handled the art and writing. In those days we actually had to hand letter it. I did a solo back up called Randolph Montana, Big Fly Hunter. I was a lot of work but fun. We made copies at a local print shop (black and white) and stapled them all together. We sold them at a local comic shop and another in a town nearby. We even got interviewed by the local newspaper. Our company name was Flight Comics. We even did a table at a convention. Sold some Merch. Had previews of upcoming stories..it was a blast. Sadly we only ever had the one issue. It was a lot of work. I'm excited about this I think it could be fun.

Roy, that sounded like an awesome experience! They are right, it's the journey that's what matters Btw, I'd also like to add, there will be no pressure in this project, we will launch when we feel like it's the right time... in consensus. Launching, technically, is pretty easy... you just upload it and there it is... for the world to see... a comic book. It's alive Soooo... "No Pressure. Keep it Simple. Have fun." -- that sounds like a good motto for any project... or a Mission Vision for every company That being said, maybe we can get some excitement going. I'm itching to draw tbh. So Dave, Roy if you have any concepts germinating, character or story wise, please post it here. Maybe we can get some sketches going. My wish is to actually work on a team book. Ever since I discovered X-Men, Avengers, Teen Titans, Justice League as a kid... that is really all I ever wanted to do in life. So, anyone here with a team book concept, I'm in. ~JOe

I too am itching to get drawing. I am working on making a more conducive work space away from the distractions of tv. I was thinking of revisting some of the stories from the defunct Flight Comics. Of course my stuff is going to have an old school kinda vibe.

I love the old stuff. Sad to say, I don't even read the new stuffs anymore. I might check out news of what's current or the solicits but I don't buy and read new comics anymore... maybe for the last 5 years. I don't know why.
Most of the comics I read these days are old ones. 2000s and earlier. To give an example, I have just read recently Iron Fist/Wolverine 1997 and Jim Starlin Captain Marvel, last week it was Dan'l Boone Frontiersman.

Ever since I discovered X-Men, Avengers, Teen Titans, Justice League as a kid... that is really all I ever wanted to do in life. So, anyone here with a team book concept, I'm in. I tooled around with something ages ago, a Golden Age-esque superteam (a little bit Minutemen, a little bit JSA), that would ultimately lead to an alternate history of WWII, and a kind-of superhero Cold war. Here are some (overtly derivative) character concepts: The League of HeroesDr. Tomorrow, Man of the Future (Samson Chase): The homo maximus, a highly evolved man from the 44th Century with a mission to save the past. • Powers: Advanced intellect, enhanced senses, tremendous charisma, immune to all diseases and discomfort, doesn’t need to sleep, can predict with almost unerring accuracy the outcome of almost any event, gadget for every occasion (flight, force-fields, repulsor ray, hypersonics, invisibility, etc) Hornet (Vesper Ventura): On holiday in Mexico, debutante Vesper Ventura was stung by a cursed hornet while touring a pyramid, and now must pursue and punish evil doers, though she’d rather go to the jazz clubs. • Powers: Flight, enhanced senses, can shoot a ‘stingray’ The Huntsman (Henry “Buck” Wilde): Famous big game hunter, conservationist and personality. He was framed and double-crossed by corrupt businessmen, and left for dead. Now he takes his revenge on corruption as the masked mystery man, the Huntsman. • Powers: None, but a crack shot with his dart rifle, his bolas and nets. A superb tracker. Also, he keeps a number of trusty pets that help him in his crusade: a falcon named Shrike, a pair of hunting hounds named Ripper and Shredder, and a black horse named Jet. Silhouette (Sadie Hollister): Mousy lab assistant to maniacal atomic scientist Dr. Werner Von Wertham, used as a guinea pig in a nefarious experiment • Powers: In a flash of blinding light, she becomes a two-dimensional, shadow-figure. While in this state, she can also manipulate other shadows, and make them tangible. Mr. Mysterio (Sinjin Smythe): Son of an English aristocrat, he was inducted by his mother’s people into the Ancient Esoteric Order of Mysteries (OM), a cult of forbidden knowledge all but wiped out by their eternal enemies, the Cult of Dzyan. • Powers: a gifted stage magician; also, he possesses a ruby worn in his turban which is imbued with the Magicks of Lemuria, granting him the powers of mind-reading, thought-projecting, and command of the weak-willed (“Go to sleep”). A ring gives him the powers of levitation (not flight). With spells, he can summon and command fire, earth, air and water. Whirlwind (Joe “Jiffy” Jiffowitz): An “aw-shucks” all-American kid. Not too bright, but pure-hearted. • Powers: Out on a date, he was exposed to the radiation of a fallen meteor, and now can run at superspeed.

Interesting take on classic archetypes, David. I do like the twists involved as well.
I'd like to add in my two cents to keep the discussions going but I honestly don't even know where to start. I have a number of projects in my head which could be fun to develop. Joey is familiar with my "Redwing" concept; there's an occult investigator named Autumn Winter; some teens who find a way to summon up their favorite superhero; and a couple of group ideas as well (both working titles): Secret Shadows: A covert group of supers who fight for justice while trying to remain anonymous (inspired a bit by my favorite Elseworlds title "Secret Society of Super-Heroes");
or Strangers: a small group of people granted odd powers by aliens and trying to figure out how best to use them.
I also wish I had a good source of artists to suggest, but unfortunately, most of the ones I know are already onto bigger things lol
Take care Don

Maybe one or two of them would be interested in joining the cabal? Maybe Charlie (or one of the other writers) could point them to this thread? Speaking of Charlie... Charlie should join our cabal. It ain't a DC2 party without Charlie. And has anyone reached out to Scott, Brian, or James? Also, I nominate Joey as Leader of our enterprise. Somebody should second that nom before he wakes up.

None of the art other than that of Roy— and occasionally Jamie— is original for the site, it’s stuff we’ve been given permission to use from DeviantArt. We don’t have any other original artists on the site unfortunately.

C'mon Charlie, play with us. Isn't the point of everything we do is to make comic book someday? President?! Oi, I just start things "Thing Starter" should be my position. David, League of Heroes sounds awesome, I'll definitely take a shot at designing some of these new and definitely interesting characters. You actually had me at "JSA" Don, I definitely remember "Redwing". I still keep the files. Sorry for dropping the ball on that one, I couldn't make a stronger commitment on the project during the time. Autumn Winter, Secret Shadows and Strangers sound like winners. Allow me to help in developing these projects. Sketches to follow guys!

Wow, Joe! You just about nailed it. The only notes I could give would be to make him a little less Aryan... give him an unusual hair color (blue? green?), and make his skin tone darker. But otherwise: square-jawed perfection!
I wasn't particularly advocating for my "League of Heroes" idea, as they really are analogues of existing characters, and have been sitting in a drawer for ten years at this point. But they could work in a retro/tongue-in-cheek kind-of-way (as long as the overall design is Atomic Age-chic). I think I had some ideas for some adversaries, also in that drawer. I'll see if I can dig them out, too.
We could also do an Avengers Initiative scenario. Each of us develop a character to do a few solo stories, and bring them together, maybe merging that with Don's Secret Shadows idea...?

So Joe can have some fun with stuff, I'll slowly start to put up some stuff from my concepts. I'll start with Strangers, which has more character concepts developed then my Shadows.
During the course of an averted alien invasion, two women were abducted and subjected to experiments leaving them with strange abilities and feeling isolated from humanity. With the help of the CHAMPION OF WOMEN though, they've learned to turn the curses into a crusade against injustice!
WARP GIRL (Melissa Lansing; 22 years old, purple-black hair, blue eyes, Caucasian) Midwest college gymnastics star Melissa was a bright smile and optimistic attitude for her friends, but that changed when the aliens turned her into a 75' tall freak of nature. In her escape she managed to steal a warp-compression harness so she can adjust her height all the way down to 75" (6'3"), retaining her strength and invulnerability but her hyper-dense nature also involves a lot of heat. She has let her folks believe she died in the invasion, and is only slowly starting to break out of her morose shell with the help of her two new friends and a cause worthy of her impressive power.
VOLT (Roberta Jeffries; 26 years old, African-American, black hair, brown eyes) Roberta is a brilliant scientist who entered forensics and joined the police CSI. A crime scene proved to be hazardous and while saving a peer, her legs were crushed by a collapsing wall. When she was abducted, she was implanted with a strange replacement nerve 'netting' which amplified her. She has superhuman reflexes, coordination, and intelligence now, and she is learning to "plug in" modules into her to add to her abilities. She must be careful though; using up too much energy at a time can slow her down, and even cripple her temporarily again.
VIRAGO (Marisa Liana Sousa; 28 years old; Mexican; 5'8", 165lbs., light brown hair, black eyes) Virago is a Luchadora and current women's champion; when she won the belt she felt her natural athletic and fighting prowess amplified twenty-fold. As long as she remains champion, she continues to empower her crusade for equal rights and fighting social injustice. She tracked down the two former abductees and recruited them to her cause rather than wallowing in their ostracism. How her powers work, where the belt came from, what her title really means, is a mystery for now.
