Well, I'll step up to the plate first! It's easy when you've just read a story that hooks you at the very beginning and slowly reels you in, never letting you escape. Great job dragonbat! I expected wonderful things and got that and more. Tight story and great characterization!

Great work, Dragonbat!
Very cool idea for a story and this was a great set-up to the interesting stuff that is sure to come. Nice to see a good representation of the Bat-titles cast of characters. Can't wait to read the rest!

Don't worry. The chapters get longer fast. Chapter 7 is over 12,000 words!

Wordcounts for the first 7 chapters: 1 2365 2 3662 3 7278 4 4964 5 10779 6 11458 7 12032 I still need to write up #8

if u spread out the words into earlier issues (make the issues an average of... 5000 or something, you'd still have eight issues, and there'd be more for our... our... internet... time?

It's just that each chapter is designed to advance the plot to a certain point. It takes as many words as it takes to get from A to B. Chopping it into 5K blocks would adversely affect the pacing.
Think of it this way: This was Locked: the 5-cent adventure. Events will be moving along shortly...

How many pages (Microsoft Word) are each issue?

It varies from 4 (the one posted here) to 28 (the one I like to call "The chapter that ate Tokyo")

Oh, now you're making me blush! Don't pad the story. Make it exactly as long as it needs to be, and it'll be great. Seriously.

Pssh... you haven't seen my natural writing style... its like... padding. everywhere. if you fell on my stories, you'd bounce twice as high...

i have loads and loads of thread and sub plots that i never resolve, and then finish strangely, usually using time travel, murder... uh... stuff like that. i've really streamlined for Batman and The Flash, but gone ALL out on The Question (coming soon! oh yeah, plugalicious!)

Well... that's the fun of writing a comic arc. When you come near the end, you start pulling on those plot threads and seeing what you can spin out of them. (Says a woman who has NEVER written a comic book... but is starting to appreciate the possibilities!)

I've totally plotted up to about #12... 'Cos I know that if I write directly from my ideas, like a stream of thought, it'll be too confusing for everyone, including me...

I feel like I'm jumping in the thread a bit late, but I'd like to say I enjoyed 'Locked Inside the Facade'. It's very well written (so far) and interesting (so far) and I can't wait to see the rest of it.

Absolutely never too late to jump in on any feedback thread, Jicky! I have to agree. Looks like the best is certainly yet to come.

The great joy of being the Editor-in-Chief is that I get these stories so far in advance, and don't have to wait, biting my finger nails, to read the next chapter--- so I can reveal that this issue makes a promise that the others definately deliver upon! Ellen has penned a tale, inspired by a rumor, but wholly her own, spinning out of events in the DCU but fueled by her own prodigious creativity and craft. And you are all going to love where she goes with it! Very polished writing style, DB, and superb characterization (even moreso given the length). You gave us the one-two punch of Jason Todd going out on a heroic act, Alfred's death and Batman's human frailty. He failed and his loved ones died because of it--- that's a lot for any psyche to handle! I'd also like to say that I loved the cover; it sets just the right tone for this mini-series, particularly with the black border, so kudos to our fantastic art team.

All I can say is Holy S***! That was amazing! I felt like I was dropped into a story moving a hundred miles an hour! At first I was like, why is this an Elseworlds story? But then came the kicker as Batman is down in an alley again, with the lifeless bodies of both Alfred and Jason! I loved the inner monologue of Renee. Just a fab story and one that I can't wait to read more of! And to top it off, that has to be my favorite cover so far! Scott did an amazing job! I just can't stop gushing about this story! Thankyou Dragonbat for setting the bar very high!

The action reaches out and grabs you throwing three things at you you never thought would happen. This is what elseworlds is all about. Great job. As for it's length, when I read I see things as they would be drawn out like in a comic, and almost every paragraph deserved to be a full panel page. Visually this chapter was very exhaustive and action packed!
