Well, I guess it's high time that I spoke up again given how I've been remiss in giving feedback. Johnny Thunder/Madame .44 - Well that was a bittersweet story but none the less enjoyable. Jeanne certainly being the star of this particular installment where even she is questioning what she is doing and why. Hopefully, she'll come to her senses about Gideon Steele because there is certainly something rotten in Denmark about him. I'm really enjoying where this story is headed and look forward to any additional stories. The combination of Walsh and Hillwig have strong pimp hand Jonah Hex - Ah, Mister Hex as only Susan can write him. Not the sort of man you want to piss off and you'd certainly think that Woodson would have known better after the abuse he heaped on young Jonah. Loved the scene near the end where he has just killed two men with a knife an gives his father a friendly suggestion. That was just a great scene among many for this issue. I would say I'll be back for the next issue but, hell, you guys know you have me hooked anyway!

Really starting to get into the Thunderbolt story, the last issue was good, but I think your really starting to find your stride with the characters in this story. Nice work. Great to see the return of Jonah's old man, always figured the drunk bastard would be dead in a shallow grave after all this time, but I suppose he's still a Hex, and it'd probably take a freight train to drop one of 'em. It was awesome to see The Roundyard Saloon, made me think of the good old days. And I have to say, I'm amazed you remembered the Mr Happy nickname.

Don- This was a great tale the pace was right on, switching between the two leads here. I personally loved Gideon, and I hope he sticks around a while to keep being a wonderful bastard. THe interplay between all of the characters, just the way they all interacted with each other was wonderful, such great tension with John and Jeanne. Wonderful job and worth all the hard work you put into it Susan- I love that it's Jonah's father bringing him back into his hunting. It's a great angle and the whole issue is packed with the emotion because of it. Poor Mei Ling though, when she finds out. Because of course she's going to. I will say as a minor point that I'm having a little trouble with Jonah's written accet this issue-- not that it's anything I can't parse out but that it takes a little extra time to do so sometimes, and that throws me off a bit. Still, a great story and such a perilously sweet note to end on

Thanks for putting me on to this site Susan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're welcome!!!!!! But I'm sorry, I can't recall who you are by your screen name -- I have a terrible memory, so please feel free to smack me upside the head to jog it. Speaking of terrible memory...yeah, Mike, I'm surprised that I remembered the "Mr. Happy" gag myself. I was doing the scene and that line just popped out of your mouth right there in the bar, so I suppose it was really YOU remembering it. Been wanting to slip the fabled Roundyard into a Hex story for a long time, and I figured what better place to take up permanent residence than Cheyenne? Keep an eye peeled for more. And yes, Woodson Hex is just as ornery as his son. In the books, he comes back again and again to pester Jonah, and Jonah just keeps taking it -- I wanted to have just one instance where he really stood up to his dad and came out on top. As for poor Mei Ling...wait until next issue.

Just wanted to leave comment on #15's cover...better late than never! Great job, James, really good eye for composition. It's funny: I didn't give any imput on the cover (that was Don's job this time out) but you spotlighted Hex in EXACTLY the way I was going to suggest had it fallen to me, right down to the look of surprise on his face.

Thanks Susan! It was just a shame that this issue didn't have a cover yet so I whipped one up quickly in Photoshop. I'd have loved to have had the time to actually y'know DRAW a cover but my time, unfortunately, lately is at a premium.
Heck, if you get a cover later from the original artist who it was assigned to, just drop mine to a variant cover or some such.

I think that ship has long since sailed: I have no clue whom Don asked to do the cover for #15, and don't expect one to arrive now at this late date. I fact, I was considering whipping one together myself, then I saw the thumbnail of yours and breathed a sigh of relief that the job had been taken from me. That reminds me, I've gotta go bug Jina B. about #16's cover...

Ok, first, I'm REALLY sorry it's taken me so long to read this. Well worth the wait, though.
I have to admit that it took me a bit to get into the first story, but once I did, I found myself sailing through it.
Jonah, though.... What can I say. Susan, DC should be taking notes from you!
Great cover as well. I'm with Susan, the look on Jonah's face was perfect.

Well, since I take notes from previous Hex stories on where to go with mine (and DC sometimes comes to the same conclusions as myself at later dates) I'd say we're more-or-less on the same page as to how to treat the guy. I would like to see them do more of the internal, personal stuff with Jonah that they did on the original run, though: they use neither caption boxes nor old-school thought balloons in the new issues, so unless Jonah speaks aloud, you don't really get his feelings on stuff. That's one thing I like doing in these stories, really getting under the surface like they did in the old days.
