Great ending! I loved the interaction between Ollie, Babs, and Dinah at the beginning, and the action scenes were written so vividly I could picture them in my head. Good job!

Fantastic work there dude! Really loving the way you write, after seeing Michelles and now this! Fantastic indeed... Could have been longer though... I WANT MORE!

Thanks guys. I appreciate the compliments. And what about that cover!!! Great job Brandon!!! And a special thanks to David for giving me a chance to not only write my all time favorite hero, but a group of hero's as dysfunctional as any family I know. I really am very lucky.

a group of hero's as dysfunctional as any family I know. I like your portrayal of the team. David had them assembled, now you have to make them into a team. Each member is a loner, an outsider, but that's also what unites them. Now, you've pitted them against a group of villains as dysfunctional as they are! That's PERFECT!

Thanks Doc. That's exactly what I am going for in these early days of the group. We've got six seperate and very distinct personalities that have been brought together. It's not going to be a smooth road getting them all to mesh together, but I hope it'll be one hell of a ride.

This was a very fun issue! I loved the interaction between all the characters and the equal time they all got. The plot is very interesting and I like these villains you got here! The only thing that I would like to see is their personal lives to evolve. The team is together now and you got a great plot going but it would just be...uh fun if we saw a little something from their personal lives. Over all this was a fun issue and I can't wait for more!

Superb! Everything I want to say has already been said so I'll make this quick. This is one of the best reads on the DC2 IMHO and I'm happy to say that you are keeping up the good work. Great action, dialogue and characterization. Once more... Superb!

Thanks much! and yes, we will definately be exploring their personal lives more as time goes on. In fact, starting in issue 6, there will be a few issue's that will focus on only two Outsiders at a time. Giving them each a moment in the spotlight.

Super work, Brian! Great characterizations all around and a very well-balanced portrayal of the distinct personalities here. Can't wait to read more!!

I have a question for the cover artist.
I noticed Queen on the cover of this issue, and I can't help but notice that she looks like Jean Grey did when she was brainwashed to be the Hellfire Club's Black Queen during the classic Dark Phoenix Saga. The costume is similar, too.
Was that intentional?

Good, but I had a hard time getting into this issue -- it just wasn't grabbing me. The NO's came off well, but the villains (yes, even Joker) seemed flat. And what was with the word balloon on the cover? Didn't seem necessary. Maybe I'm just having an off-day, I'll come back next issue and see how it all turns out.

I'm sorry you didn't like it and I will definately try harder. The balloon was my idea, but in retrospect it probably wasn't needed. Sorry.

And what was with the word balloon on the cover? Didn't seem necessary. It might not have been necessary, bu it did get a chuckle out of me. The Jack saying "Get bent" instantly reminded me of 3 card monte, which is another gambling game, so it fits with Vegas. Three card monte is a game of confidence and misdirection, which is perfect for a gang of super criminals. There are no winners, only victims. Wow, Brian, you've managed to get a lot hidden under two words. Amazing!

Yes, 1701. Brian described to me at one point that this Royal Flush Gang would have a Hellfire Club influence so I used that directly in the Queen's look. Plus I was trying to make her saucy and edgy at the same time as she is definately a woman to be reckoned with!
Sorry you didn't like the blurb on the cover, Susan. There was quite a bit of discussion about it between Brian and myself and I was fully encouraging as I love word balloons on covers. Well, rather I loved how effective older covers were in giving out little teases or summaries or attention grabbers. The cover was the focal selling point, or grab, for a story and as beautiful as some covers can be these days I think they aren't always as effective as they can be as far as trying to connect the potential reader directly with the story inside. I know some consider this "retro" or "corny" these days but I'm a firm believer in old school. Ha. So, it wasn't just some off thought but rather one we hoped would give the reader an "in" on this version of RFG.
*makes note to never put word balloons on Susan's covers* ;D

Plus I was trying to make her saucy and edgy at the same time as she is definately a woman to be reckoned with! I knew it, man! I knew it was a tribute! I looked at that cover and I thought, "Wait a minute! Look at Queen! Take away the crown and the face makeup, and she'd look almost exactly like Jean Grey did when the Hellfire Club brainwashed her into becoming their Black Queen during the Dark Phoenix Saga, red hair in a bun and all!" I think it's an interesting influence. The Hellfire Club are my favorite villains. In my Marvel Comics fics, they're one the major enemies of my superhero, Kid Razor. He's a teenager from Cleveland who gained superpowers form an enchanted guitar.

Ha! Sounds cool, 1701!
Yeah, pretty close. I did research on the RFG before doing the pic and combined elements from the DC animated version s and the comic versions, but none of the Queens really worked. So, I said the heck with it and went straight for the Black Queen look. ;D

If it works, go with it.
I love the old-school myself, too. You know, if DC2 ever does a JLA comic, I'd love to see the style Mike Sekowski used for the cover, which George Perez later updated, of the heads of the JLA members around a central image.

Funny you should say that because I almost had the heads of a few of the Outsiders in those little circles along the bottom on this cover. If I hadn't started running short on time I would have! But yes, expect me to do this the first chance I have on a cover.

Hutton (totally loses half the readers with that old reference). No, I like word balloons on covers, though they barely use them anymore. This one just seemed out of place -- "Get bent"? Well, Hi to you too! It took me off-guard, but not in the way you may have meant. It just struck me as unnecessary. No need to apologize, Starlord. It wasn't a slam-bang-holy-crap story for me, but it was good. Keep writing, I'll keep reading, I promise.

Thanks Susan. I can't promise anyone a slam-bang issue, but I do strive for enjoyable and if I end up scoring a three pointer along the way, so much the better! And I could go on and on about KSM's cover and especially the Queen, but I don't want to embarrass Brandon. I do have to thank him again though. After seeing the Queen, my mind started whirling and a couple of questions that I had been asking myself since I started plotting this out, just clicked into place for me. All because of the Queen and her designer...so thanks a million!

I have seen this sort of thing criticized and torn down on other forums and always have to bite my tongue. I just love them, so how could people not see how much fun they are? Ha. Thanks for the comments, Susan. It's always good to know what is and isn't working here.

Razor is a regular kid, who in his human identity, has his struggles with the regular kid's life: school, part-time job, that kind of deal. The Hellfire Club are the rich, the powerful, the elite. Basically, it's a clash of classes: Working Class vs. Upper Class.

Thanks Shoe! I hope you enjoy the rest of the stories as well. I guess my love for GA and BC make it easier for me to write them, but it's been a blast getting under the hoods (or fishnets) of the rest of them as well. Got some cool plans for Zatanna and Chase and Helena coming up....as well as the introduction of a brand new member... ;D So I hope you stick around!
