Yet another astounding issue!
I loved the stuff with Babs here; as my favourite character on the team, I like seeing her get the spotlight ocne in a while and kicks some butt. I must confess I got a little smile when she slapped Joker around. He really did deserve it. I love the fact that Zatanna is still learning to sue her powers, and still makes mistakes. It makes for some very interesting character development. Dinah and Ollie were great here, once again. Their relationship is pretty funny so far. The Joker was spot on, his same mad, crazy, deranged self shining here.
Great job! Can't wait for next issue!

Brian, I may not say this much, but NEW OUTSIDERS under your tenure is continually my best book of the month. You have a fantastic grasp of the characters, you write everything FANTASTICALLY, and all the effort you put into the stories are worth it. Seriously! And Ramon, that cover is the best of the month too, and how great must it be to beat all those other Ramon Villalobos's? Brava, people, brava...

I'm finding this book to be very fascinating. It truly reads like a comic book, with threads that are always left open for another time. I like that, gives it a serialistic sort of feel. Well done.

Liked the cover, Ramon, especially the RFG's clown accoutrements.

Thank you guys, very much. Very kind words. Apprentice: Glad you have enjoyed the moments with Babs. Issue 7 will focus on just Batgirl and Zatanna, so stay tuned as he finaly gets to confront a certain Dark Knight about the past...sort of. HoM: Wow, I really don't know how to respond to that. Thank you. Much. tlbauer: I'm glad you're enjoying it. There are a few things that are still out there, waiting to be revistited. Hope you stick around to see them come back. Ramon, my friend, AWESOME job!!! I bow to your talent (but I won't bow to Zod) This is also the first issue with our new Editor Markymark, and I can tell you all that he is one heckuva great Editor. Thanks Mark! You make me look better then I really am.

The cover is very provocative and had a nice little message to it. I like it. Glad Batgirl wasn't crippled. Looking forward to the damage the new King is gonna make.

EEEGGGCCCCEEELLNT. *wrings hands maniacly* I like this series very much. The whole gang angle gives it a smack of realism. I know that sounds crazy talking about comic fiction especially with futuristic weapons, but it just does for me. I really like your Joker. Crazy and not afraid to kill. Not hampered by any morals whatsoever. I hate it when writers try to make Joker a poor victim, with a illness, He's crazy, period.

Thanks goldk! I agree on your thought concerning Joker. Also glad you liked the gang. When I was given the privilege of writing Outsiders, I knew I wanted to bring them in. They've always been one of my favorite villain groups. You might also want to take a peek at this months Teen Titans as well. Thanks Hope and I have to admit, the cover floored me, as well. Provocative is a perfect word. Can't wait to see what Ramon comes up with for issue 6.

Good issue, though I'm still uncomfortable with how Huntress acts during the fights -- the way she gets off on it just creeps me out a bit. Yes, I'm a prude, go away.
Also, for the record, a small one-shot pistol is called a Derringer. Dillinger was the gangster from the 1940s, and I don't think any weaponry was ever named after him.

Thanks Susan! I was hoping you would read it and was waiting for your opinion. Like many others on here, it means a lot to me. Sorry you are uncomfortable with Helena's little "quirk", but hang in there and before this next year is out, you are going to see it take a very dramatic turn. You mean you never heard of the Dillinger??? It was a very very dangerous weapon that was made only one year and was named after that ruthless gangster. Honestly, there weren't many that were made and very few still exist. They were created in...ummm...ummm...oh never mind, you got me. Hope to see you again next month. You, Mark, and Charlie keep me honest, and I appreciate that!

In starlord's defense, I take full blame for the Dillinger faux pas. While I was proofreading it, I googled for "Dillinger gun" and, google being as extensive as it is, it managed to come up with numerous entries for this non-existent weapon (looking back at the actual entries now it's sometimes referring to a fake pistol made of wood or soap that Dillinger used to escape from prison - which considering The Joker's oft-repeated use of toy guns kind of makes sense. It also apparently turns up as an item in the Playstation game Martian Gothic: Unification).

Y'know, Joker does sound like the kind of guy that would carry a gun made out of soap that shoots real bullets...I'll allow it! ;D Trivia time!: the inventor of the derringer was actually named Deringer, with one 'r'. However, so many knock-offs were made, all spelled with a double 'r', that the latter became the accepted spelling. This is the sort of pointless stuff you lean writing Western stories.

The New Outsiders #5
Ack! The Joker finally strikes! I knew it was only a matter of time before he took charge of the gang! This issue was exciting and, at times, brutal (the whoopee cushion bomb! Whatta gas!!!). I still don’t quite know what to think of the Huntress & her apparent sexual inhibitions when it comes to being smacked around… Seems like Helena may need to see a therapist. But you nailed the Joker’s depraved personality dead on! Don’t know if I should be impressed or frightened!
The only complaint I have is the lack of Green Arrow. I know it’s difficult to manage a large team and give everyone a fair shake, but I want to see more Ollie!

Glad you enjoyed it, LL. To be honest, I'm not sure if I should be concerned about the whole Joker thing myself. I am glad of the feedback I've gotten about him. I was very nervous about using him right. When it comes to Huntress, like I stated before, her, ummm, little tick will eventually be addressed.
And I'm so glad you brought up Green Arrow. I don't think it's a surprise to anyone that he is the ULTIMATE hero, in my book, so I have to admit that I have purposely held back a bit with him. It would be very easy for me to center on him a bit too much.
With that being said, come on back next month and I promise you a story that will focus on Ollie and Dinah alone. Well, and Roy too. I don't want to say to much, but the title is "Broken Arrows", and I'm very excited to see everyone's reaction to this one.
Thanks again!

It's one of the best issues to date, starring Green Arrow, Black Canary and Speedy! It's got ties to everything and OH MY GOD it's so cool. I had my doubts about Mizzer Brian pulling off the subject matter but boy did he do it, and do it with sheer talent and grittiness that you'd expect from a story of its type.

Sorry my response is so late, I need to do a little catching up everywhere lol.
Once again, very strong work. This issue was so action filled, I couldn't even take my eyes off of the page. I'm so glad Babs didn't turn into Oracle too! All the relationship interaction was stellar once again. It's really nice to see all the characters evolving like Zatanna and her powers and Batgirl, I really think that this might of taught her a lesson with the Joker and all. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to every month. Keep up the good work.

I very much enjoy this series. A team full of (mostly) non-meta heroes with such divergent personalities that the interactions between the heroes are some of the best moments. Keep the humor quotient high and keep the sexual tension between the characters. Looking forward to next issue. Great job.

Another great issue B! I love the Joker in this. I also think you're doing a good job with making them slowly build into a team over time. They are getting more cohesive but I like that it doesn't come naturally right away.

Thanks CoS! I am trying to keep it real when it comes to the team forming. How close will they get to a single fighting unit before certain "events" happen? Hmmm....

I just had to drop a note on this issue. I continue to enjoy what you bring to this title. This continues to be a top notch book. It took awhile for me to warm up to the RFG but when it was all said and done they were a good fit here. Not a fan of Joker, never will be, but he fit into to the madness quiet nicely! As for our heroes, I love the interaction between them. It's great to see the team gelling right before our eyes. The Huntress is scary cool. Don't hold back on her! Please allow us to get a peek inside her head soon? I know everyone wants more GA (issue 6 is on my catch-up-read-list next) But I enjoy them all and hope to see equal time given to them as the series goes on.
