i dunno bout that dude, superman was pretty damn awesome. Pretty damn awesome? Yes. Over-long? Yes. As good as Spider-Man 2? Nope. Not close. I will however reserve judgement for next summer, as I don't like the villains they've used for this. I liked it when there were rumours circulating that it was GG2 and Chamleon. I remember hearing an interview with Raimi around the first one when people asked for Venom and he said he didn't like the character and wanted to do the classic villains first. I guess studio pressure has forced him to add him in. He seems a bit of an after-thought with the over-arcing plot of the movies, Venom doesn't really fit with what's come before. Spider-Man's not a dark character. He's at a really happy place in life with MJ. It's Harry who this last film shuld belong to. It's a crying shame that for all the good work Franco has put in in the first two that he's being pushed out and given the hump for a 90s fad character and a glorified street thug with a gimmick. Damnit. I got ranting again. It's only because I really love these films and I care so much about the characters. If this last one isn't up to the standard I'll be really pissed off because it will ruin the other two in the eyes of a lot of people. If one of them sucks it can never be the best film trilogy of all time, and it should be up there if they are all as good as 2. Holding high hopes for where Sony goes with the franchise after this though. They've said that Spider-Man is definitely a franchise property and not a trilogy, so there will be more films with a new cast and director. I personally would have saved Grace to be the next Peter Parker and had a bigger guy play Venom in the next trilogy. Also, we need us some Mysterio action. He would rock on the big screen.

That's funny, I always thought Spiderman was pretty dark, he used to quit every week and cry about every little part of his life and all. After a certain point in the Spiderman series' it seemed like they had an agenda to just screw up his life as much as humanly possible so him being all sad and "evil" works for the Spiderman that the core audience grew up with and wants to see. Do you have any idea how much Venom shirts that they will be able to sell with this? I don't think Franco has what it takes to be a lead villain so it will help them to throw in a few more villains to carry it. If you want to know why I say that watch Annopollis or whatever.... wait, no DON'T watch that movie. it was awful. I think Grace will work as Eddie Brock if they use the Ultimate version too and not just the classic interpretation. The problem I have with Topher is that they showed Eddie Brock before in part one and i hate those kinds of incansistancies. Two Face in Batman Returns should have been Lando if they followed the Burton movies continuity. oh and best trilogy ever? 'fraid not. every movie franchise of the last couple years has tried to make that claim but none are even close to worthy of the epic masterpeice that was Home Alone.

Spider-Man isn't dark, it's realistic. He has problems other than superheroic ones, that was always the big draw of Spidey back in the day. The films haven't been dark is what I was trying to say, they've been dramatic and comedic but not dark. The only dark parts are those with Franco and DeFoe in 1 & 2. I'm pretty convinced that Franco could put out a good performance under the auspices of Sam Raimi, or he wouldn't have been cast. He's an unknown so it wasn't like they needed him for any speicifc reason, he was cast to play the growing role of Harry Osborn so I trust he'll fill it.
Oh, and Eddi Brock was never actually IN the first film, just mentioned. There was no actor for the role. Robbie says his name when JJJ asks who they have working to get Spider-Man photos.

May have been named/credited but there was nobody who was called Eddie Brock, he may have been in it and played the character but it would just have been as a cameo or a part that was cut. I know that nobody is ever introduced as Eddie Brock in the film.
You're talking to (at the time) probably the biggest Spider-Man fan ever. I watched that film every day, and then at least once a week until the second film came out. I may have watched it 200+ times. I'm so sad.
if it was the second film I'd be happy to agree with you, as as much as I love it more and think it's better the novelty of a Spider-man film was worn off and I haven't seen that anywhere near as much. Although I did see it at the cinema 5 times.

They had to put in Venom. Character's just too popular
I'm scared of this flick putting in too many villains. I mean Sandman, Hobgoblin, Venom... Batman and Robin, anyone? What made the first two movies so good is that they concentrated as much on character as action. One villain instead of two or three fighting themselves for screen time. A superhero movie with actual subplots, and character development for the villain as well as the hero. I seriously hope they don't frick up the franchise here.

Hopefully Sandman is a villain for Spidey to fight in leiu of the "having no powers" sequences in both the first two films. He can't lose his powers again, that just seems wanky.
Also I hate the fact that Venom was done before the much more worthy Stan and Steve villains like Mysterio or Kraven or even the Vulture. They updated Doc Ock so they could do the Vulture pretty good methinks.

Vulture can fly, is a genius and has razor-sharp wings. I think he's cool already, Hollywood him up a little and get Ben Kingsley to play him and you're onto a winner.
But that said the villain to the final part in this trilogy should have been Green Goblin II, and if they really wanted another villain they could have had Chameleon pose as somebody like Peter (Grace) to be a love interest for MJ in the same way Gwen is for Peter. Venom and Sandman are superfluous to the amazing arc Raimi's been putting together with Harry, MJ and Peter. To me anyways.

I thought that was only the animated series. They could still get away with that though.

I have to agree with you there...as much as I loved Superman Returns, I've always been a bigger Spidey fan than Superman, and IMO the Spidey movies turned out better than Superman.

Well there is kind of a huge difference between the two. Singer couldn't take complete control of the franchise because he respected the previous installments and most other people do as well. he could have been more original, but that was the path he chose because it is what he felt was right. Spiderman has no precedent to speak of so with that film they basically got to start from scratch with a more modern twist on a formula that really was set by Richard Donner and the original Superman franchise whereas Singer wanted to pay homage and not start over. Same with Batman which was awesome. Plus that is all really a matter of YOUR opinion, personally I thought the first Spiderman movie was good, but I didnt even bother to sit through the whole sequel, just didn't care for it. Personally, I can watch Sin City over and over and not get bored and cannot wait for the sequel.

Yeah, Sin City is something that everyone, even non-comic fans, can agree on.
