After first viewing the movie I wasn't too keen on the idea of Superman's son. But now I'm starting to think that it could be a pretty cool concept if handled well, so I'm up for it. If any character in comics could be a good dad, it'd be Superman. It would take an inventive dynamic, but I could see it happening. I could even see the child growing up to be a Superboy of sorts. It would be the most logical incarnation to that character idea, plus a lot of fun in the right hands. Sort of a reverse approach to the Superboy idea in respect to how the book worked in it's original run. For naysayers involving his aging, etc., think about this: How long did it take for Dick Grayson (who for all intents and purposes was Batman's "son") to grow up? How long do you think it will take for Tim Drake? In all probability Drake will never age past being a teen because that would push Batman's age along too far. Any of the current Titans for that matter unless it involves wacky time travel as it did with Bart. The child could grow to a certain age and then stop, pretty much like all comic characters have, unless again it involves time travel. Face it, Superman will never reach 40. And here's the catch, the birth of a Superbaby would sell a LOT of comics, so how long do you really think it will take?

I think you're right about the baby, KSM. I said in the chat room last week that it won't take long for DC to follow suit. They did it when Lois and Clark married on television, they'll do it here as well. I'd bet money on it.

I just saw this movie on Friday night and I must say, for not being a huge fan of Superman, I really enjoyed this movie. One of the things I think I liked best about this movie was that Clark was trying to pick his life up where he left it, but he soon discovered that the pieces weren't there anymore. I think the writers and Bryan Singer did a really create job with the character evolution.
Another aspect of the film I really enjoyed was Lois. I think it was great that she had a family but she had to deal with the struggle of Superman returning. So that goes along with the character evolution too I suppose.
It was really awesome to see a large variety of Superman's powers in this movie like x-ray vision, his powerful breath, his laser shooting eyes, and his strength.
The plot was very interesting, and I especially liked how Lex Luther's henchwoman slowly fell apart as the movie progressed. There was enough action to keep me interested in the movie and the I think that the film wasn't too cluttered, that each character had an important purpose in the film. The only character I felt should of had more time was Martha Kent. She had all of 10 minutes at the most in the movie.
The only thing I wasn't crazy about was that Superman had a children. I don't think Clark and Lois would have ever got serious enough to have a child before he ran off. I don't know why, I just don't feel like it's really necessary for Superman to have a child.
Over all, I really enjoyed this movie and it is definitely on my list of DVDs to buy when it comes out. 9.5/10!

I liked the child thing... I didn't see it coming at all. I originally read that it was her step-son and I just took that to heart & clung to it. Then when the piano hit the wall I had goose bumps & a 'holy $h!t moment! Then the scene at the end where he repeated Jor-El's words to Jason had my wife in tears. I think it was a great twist & can't wait to see how it plays out in the sequel! Now if they do something along these lines in the comics it best be done right! Remember this one?

They did it when Lois and Clark married on television, they'll do it here as well. I'd bet money on it. Y'know, Clark has just spent a whole year without powers so it's probably coming soon. I hope they use the Byrne thing and don't give him powers 'till his teens. Here's a question? Do you tell your son that you're Superman? That would make for some interesting, "my father can beat up your father arguments" And would the child have any health problems because of the mixed ancestry? Would his life span be shortened? Y'know if you use the Byrne idea of Kryptonians using birthing matrixs (maxtri (?) ) it would be the first time in millenia that a kryptonian would actually be "born".. oh man now my heads going to hurt all day!

I think the birthing matrices are on the outs for the Kryptonian side of things, but I don't follow those books carefully so I could be wrong. The more I think of it, if Superman is going to be married (something that hasn't really gone anywhere storywise), then they should take the next step and make it a family (something I'm seeing more and more story potential from as I think about it). My hesitation is that some writers wouldn't be able to pull off the subtle and smart story points this would need and eventually we'd see the kid get it. *cough*Connor*cough* Wow, I just took the non-existing character and negatively ran him into the ground 15 years down the road in one sentence. But more often than not that's where the superhero kid angle goes (see Aquaman). I want a brighter, more inspirational Superman and I do think being a father could really bring this back out.

I have to agree with that. If it's done right, it could really bring the character of Superman (as well as Clark) centered again. Not only that, but it could make for some wonderful (and hilarious) scene's with Lois.
I actually think it would work better in the books then it did in the movie. The whole thing in the movie is still just plain weird.

Amen Brother! Preach On! I get so sick and tired of hearing writers say that they can't do anything with superman cause he's too powerful. It's not about the powers, but most writers miss the more subtle things and just want to have a big bru-haha! Present company certainly excepted. I mean really, there is more charaterizarion and emotion in the stories that the writers produce here in one story than in whole runs over in DC proper. And you're certainly right about the marriage not going anywhere. First Lois was a bitch then she was jealous then she was helpful, now that they've used up the stereotypes she's just kinda there. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Supes was at his best when he dealt with the bad guy/ villian /crisis, and also had to deal with the small stuff of everday life. Show me how he does it cause I can't!!!!!BBWWWWAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH (sorry left over Joker toxin, see Batman #9) *slides soap box back to KSM*

Halfway through the movie, I realized why I was getting bored...In every Superman movie, Superman always faces Lex Luthor. I don't understand why they can't bring Braniac or some other villain into the Superman franchise. I can understand not having Darkseid, because his origin is too convoluted for casual movie-goers but I see no reason why nobody else can appear in the Superman movies.

I think there is a good chance in this set of movies we could see more villains. But to be fair, most of the superhero movies there is a running villain through the franchise: Magneto in X-Men, the Osbournes in Spider-man, etc.

I know but in X-Men you also had Sabretooth, Mystique, Pyro, Juggernaut and more while in Spiderman you also had Doctor Octopus and... Spoilers...
Sandman. Flinging a continent into space is and alright way to show how powerful Superman is. But it would be better if he fought somebody like Doomsday, who is more powerful than he is. There hasn't been any variety in Superman villains in the movies. Even Batman Begins had Ra's al Ghul and Scarecrow in it.

it is not as hard to win me over as you think. Your "Next-Gen" blatha blatha yadda yadda yadda would say otherwise Any way, I learned two things at that movie. One, don't see a Superman movie with your grandpa that doesn't have Christopher Reeve in it... (don't ask). Second, not all Superman sequels stink (I heard III and IV were duds). But why bring Superman back just to kill him off ?
