A telepath who is able to transfer thoughts, emotions, feelings between people. His ultimate goal is an honorable one; he wants to spread mercy, compassion, and forgiveness. He becomes head warden/psychologist at Arkham. He treats criminals by absorbing their negative thoughts, their anger, their hate, their malice into his own mind and he projects the sadness and anguish of their victims into the criminals’ minds. Basically he literally makes criminals see the errors of their ways and he takes the burden of these criminals unto himself. Many of the criminals he treats are able to rehabilitate more or less completely after only one session but others require repeated sessions for him to siphon off their negative thoughts and emotions. He also treats the victims of these criminals by absorbing their negative emotions and projecting mercy and forgiveness into their mind. The criminals he treats generally gets released early because their victims will forgive them and sometimes actually petition for their release. He scorns the justice system for being more concerned with punishment than rehabilitation.

Where's the problem that makes him an adversary?

All those negative emotions and thoughts he's absorbing out of people's minds ain't exactly good for his sanity. Plus when you think about it there's something inherently wrong with his methods. He makes people see the errors of their ways but there are people who are not ready or unwilling to see the truth and you just can’t force people to change even if it's for the better, they have to be willing to change. The criminals who are rehabilitated after treatment by him are generally the ones who are ready to accept change but the criminals who require repeated treatments are generally the ones who are either not ready or unwilling or will never change and the treatments give them some cognitive dissociation and slowly drive them insane. I just think it would be interesting to have an adversary that battles Batman purely in ideology and will, no physical combat whatsoever. I mean, here’s someone so dedicated to a good cause that he’s willing to risk his sanity to help the world and yet there is a flaw in his method, it could make Batman question his own convictions and his own methods.

what if he took all of Batmans rage, then we'd be left seeing what makes the batman... The event that shaped his childhood? or the man? Or i could be talkin rubbish

That's exactly what I was thinking. He could take away Batman's rage and his pain over his parent's death and see just how devoted Batman is to justice, or to see if Batman's devoted to justice or vengeance.

Yeah that is interesting. Why not propose it for Detective Comics here at DC2?

Fool! You cannot escape the wrath of Zod! Kneel before Zod!
Besides, I got plenty more crazy ideas, like a secret society of psions who mutilate themselves by destroying their five senses and relying entirely upon their psychic abilities to percieve the world.

Well, I sort of ruined my idea of a secret society of self mutilating psions by telling you that they're self mutilating psions. It would have been better if they were all mysterious and over time we learned that they're blind, deaf, anosmic, have no sense of touch and taste, and are mute as well. At least I haven't told you why they mutilate themselves but let's just say that for a group of blind people, they put a lot of emphasis on sight.

In fact, this could be a major arc... "What makes the Batman?" Something that spilt into Detective and Batman...
Its a very powerful idea...

I really like the idea of the Warden. I think it would be an interesting story in terms of what he would do to rid himself of the excess rage, venom, and spirit that he takes from the criminals he comes in contact with. Perhaps dumping them into a death row inmate scheduled for execution who then mysteriously escapes? *evin grin* The psionic cult idea is great as well, with a ton of potential as far as the creppy factor goes. Now if I could just get someone on board for my angelic machine idea...

Man wakes up to find out he's a machine created by the angels before their fall from grace. He was thought destroyed and is now seeeking sanctuary from any group that will take him. A battle between good and evil ensues (I'm seeing more Underworld than Constantine here) with our Dark Knight and the GCPD caught right in the middle. There's more to it than that, of course, but I am trying to finish this before I leave work.

Pitch it!

OK, I pitched my idea, in a horribly disorganized fashion by the way, about the new Arkham psychologist/warden along with a story set around the beginning of Batman's career. Although I still need to think up of a name for him. I'm thinking that he's rather young, probably between 20 and 30, wise beyond his years but still rather naive and inexperienced when it comes to how the world really works. I think he should be about average height, 5 foot 10 inches somewhere around that range. Haven't really thought about his ethnicity yet but I don't think it matters that much.

I'm not looking to do any Batman books solo. I was thinking of pitching it with someone else to get my feet wet with writing fan fiction. I am a total newbie at all this. Also, I have a pitch in for a Ray mini-series and I am feverishly at work writing up a pitch for an Elite maxi-series.
You heard me... the Elite. ;D
