Hey everyone,
I'm putting this out there if there is any interest in this section of the DC2. Many moons ago, I was developing an Earth A Batman series with David's help and was set to launch it, but things got in the way and it was delayed, but i still kept writing with the intention of launching it at a later date. With David on sabbatical from DC2 work for the time being, I've offered to be the overseer of the section until David comes back or he and/or Mark decide to excommunicate me from the DC2 for screwing it up too badly.
To sum up the premise of Earth A, it's same basic starting point as Earth-One, but things will evolve differently. Some examples could be, with no Apokolips invasion, how did the Justice League band together? If Roulette hadn't kidnapped Black Lightning, then Green Arrow never would have formed the New Outsiders.
With my Batman title, I'm using an area of Batman's DC2 history that has only been mentioned and briefly shown here for the status quo of this new Batman. After the first arc, I plan on having backup stories to show what's going on with other members of the Bat-family. I plan on adapting elements that I liked from Earth-One, and the stuff I didn't care for, I can tweak or not use them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's up to the writer if they want to keep characters similar to their Earth-One counterparts, with a few minor changes here or there, or if they want to take them in different, far-out directions and see where it goes. I'm doing a little bit of both and hopefully it works.
That's pretty much the basics of it, hopefully it came across clearly, if not, you can feel free to ask me. I guess the only other thing that I would say, sort of my personal vision for the section, is I see it as a way to take an Ultimate Comics approach to the DC2. Looking at Marvel, for the most part, their main universe consists of the most iconic versions of their characters and their Ultimate Universe, which originally started out as a way to modernize the concepts of their characters, now is a place to tell stories they can't tell in their main universe. You couldn't replace Peter Parker with Miles Morales in the main Marvel Universe without eventually bringing Peter Parker back, but in the Ultimate Universe Miles can stay as the status quo.
And that's what I see Earth A as, a place we can tell stories that might not be able to be told on Earth One, a place we can alter the status quo as much as we like. On Earth A, maybe Dick Grayson stays Batman, maybe some cataclysmic event wipes out most of the heroes and new ones have to step up, maybe ones we create to fill those voids. I'm not saying it has to be that way or it will, but it can.
Hopefully that made sense, but I doubt I did anything but make things confusing. I hope to launch the Batman title soon and I have some ideas about a Justice League book among others, but we'll see how that goes.
Again, if anyone is interested, or has any questions, feel free to PM me.
