5 stars just because you brought back baby May! Nothing has stuck in my craw more than Marvel's lack of resolution to that plot thread.
The story was extremely well told and although it took me a bit to get into it, by the time we were at the climatic battle between Norman and Peter and Ben, the entire thing was like one huge roller coaster ride.
I've always enjoyed the What If...? stories, and nice to see that we've got an extremely capable writer with a great imagination to do this series. Also, one heck of a great cover! I love's me some Green Goblin.

They WERE brothers, no matter what, and they would do anything for each other. Shame Ben had to die, eh? Well, apparently not! This What If...? showed how much potential this format has, and it looks to be in good hands with Pat at the helm. Tight writing (Bit dialogue heavy, but this is a Spider-Man book, so I can let that slide), and the one criticism I could have, which I emailed to Pat, was that the Watcher was... Humorous. That's a no-no for me. He's stoic, not chatty!
Anyway, can't wait for #2, and whatever surprises lie in wait there!

I really enjoyed this. It was a learning experience for me, as I never knew there was a Ben Reilly to begin with. I never was a Spider-Man collector of comics, so I missed out on all that background.

I have been waiting for this one for a long time, so I am glad it was finally posted here, and may I say, it was worth the wait! The topic was an interesting one, what if Ben Reily had lived? It's something I had been wondering for a while, its a big and risky one to start the series with, but, I felt it worked. The Watcher intro, although out of character was one of the funniest and most interesting things I've read in ages. Then we are put right into the action, and may I say it was exciting. The thing which this issue did absolutely flawlessly is keep me on the edge of my seat throughout the entire thing. My main issue though was that the ending was very anti-climactic, it almost seemed as if "What If Ben Reily has survived..... for one more issue" so, I felt that a broader sense could have worked better. But yes, that Norman is one sadistic freak. Still, a very enjoyable work, and I cannot wait for #2!
