I don't get it. Marvel are offering to take DC back issues of their Blackest Night ring promotions (Doom Patrol, Booster Gold, etc) for an extra special Siege cover variant... what's the point? Here are some links of interest from CBR and Newsarama[/u].

You are probably aware of already...they cut the covers from the unsold issues and send them back, I guess to diamond, destroying comics, yeah its horrible!! and you usually are allowed to return a certain number, and they would knock the prices of the comics from the shops bill,so I guess this is some kinda wierd marvel loyalty test, or they are panicking as there is no way of telling exactly how well a book sold at the time, unless retailers return the unsold covers, which they may be holding onto for as long as possible for extra sales?

Thing is, this reeks of Marvel pulling one of their dick moves that have been so rife in the past few years of publishing. I don't know, I don't like it, but why should anyone send in DC books to Marvel? It's stupid. And all that just for a Deadpool variant of Siege #3? I'm sick to death of that character already, and to be fair, I wasn't at all impressed with his use in X-Men: Origins: Wolverine. You make some fair points though Jamie, but still... QUEEESSSSAAADDDAAAA!

Oh man that is hilarious!
On another note me and Marvel had a big fight this morning and I think it might be pretty serious. Went down something like this:
"You know what? I was starting to except all this. I was getting used to the idea of no more Spidey flicks. Oh, sure you were talking about maybe letting me catch a cheeky glimpse of your Vulture but as always it was on your terms. I never wanted Vulturess, Marvie. That was your dream not mine! I was getting on with my life, yknow. And now? Now your saying you want to...wanna what? Start over? You wanna go back to the way things were do ya? But god forbid you let me see Toby any more right?! And Sam...dont get me started on the way you treated Sam! So know where are we, huh?! You wanna pretend like the last few years didnt happen? Well i gotta news flash for ya honey: THEY DID! The most damn well did and they were the happiest years of my sorry life! Until you went and ruined it all! I mean forgodssake even Jonah Hex was starting to look good!! And now you drop this on me? Well I got some news for you, sister. Remember how when we were on that break and I said there hadn't been any one else? Guess what? Yeah thats right I was reading DC every freakin' day! Oh yeah we'd meet up at the mall come back to my place and then lie all over the bed and I read every single inch of her. And you know what? I loved every minute of it! Cos she still remembers how to be fun when your just moody and serious every single day! And dont think I dont know about your sordid little love children Amalgam and JLA/Avengers crossover. DC told me all about it! She doesnt keep secrets from me! And since we ARE telling the truth for once: you know how I always told you you had the best looking pages in the world? Take one look under the bed. There is a stack of Hellboy there and every page is filled with art tens times more attractive than you could ever be! Now get out of this house or so help me god I'll remind you of the Clone Saga!"

It looks like the whole point was more to get people talking about it more than actually benefiting any deals with retailers. So far it seems successful.

I know they say that any publicity is good publicity but somehow I don't think that people saying that your company is "petty" or "slimy" is a good thing but I guess that it isn't going to stop anyone from buying their comics no matter how many people are swearing they'll never buy Marvel again.
If Marvel didn't have Nova or Guardians of the Galaxy, however, I could make that claim and be truthful about it.

Something interesting I saw on the cover of a future issue of Captain America: I don't know, but when did Marvel start using the term second feature? Another DC related thing that Marvel are doing, perhaps?

Looks like it. But, I don't know man, Burger Kind added a dollar menu after Wendys and McDonalds did the same and I like all three. These thigns can only become industry standards when one more than one company does them. It's not the first thing DC has lead the way on but I don't mind it, it just means that fans of both companies get an extra story.

I don't think its an issue using the term "second feature" that's what it is. There is a main feature and that's like... a second one. They could use another name for it but why? There is already one.
As for the Marvel ring promotion nonsense, it's pretty funny because Marvel if they really wanted to help out retailers sitting on back stock could easily make the same offer with a ton of Dark Reign tie in books or World War Hulk or Secret Invasion. Do they really think DC is alone in getting shops to over order by offering incentives that can be sold to collectors? That's the entire point of variant covers. As Jamal Igle said on twitter, its like General Mills offering a free box of Trix to grocery stores that bought excess boxes of Kellogg's cereal. And like Geoff Johns said, Deadpool variants are not a rarity among the comic book industry, people see a lot of that guy. Oh right, the point... what was that thing again? Yeah, it comes off like a dick thing for Marvel to do, especially because retailers drop like 100 bucks worth of merchandise for a single variant which in theory would have to sell for $100+ to break even. That's just silly in this economy. But whatever, Marvel thinks this makes them look good in the eyes of retailers so let them go ahead and do their "market research".

My husband (a diehard Marvel Zombie) is insisting this promotion is fake simply because I can't find the press release on an official Marvel site. Who'd risk a libel suit from Marvel to fake a press release? Oh, and Quester? Bad news: he noticed you lookin' at him like that, and he didn't like it. Hope you like eating corn on the cob with no teeth.
