Hello all! First time poster . . . I love these two villians, so without further ado: Scarecrow costume design attempt . . . Need to fix the scythe sometime, heh. For this version of Crane I took the shaved head from some depictions and mixed it with the black hair of old. This was inspired by the year one depiction of Scarecrow, it's kinda big so I didn't want to directly link to it. Crane and Linda Friitawa from As The Crow Flies. Not very happy with her face so I'll hopefully get around to fixing it later. Crane's hands suffering pain from The Long Halloween, heh. Those five artworks were done for the fanart100 challenge on livejournal; if you wanna know, the prompts given to me that inspired each image are, respectively: Brown, Colourless, Not Enough, White, and Touch. I wanted to give a try at the Riddler as depicted in Riddle Me That (mainly as a break from Dr. Crane ) and this was the result: Anyway, those are some of my favorite Batman fanarts that I've done so far- I hope you enjoyed. Please do not use my images without my permission as it makes me cry. And it's definitely a pleasure to be posting here and meeting you all.

Very nice sir. Might i ask if that is paint or some kind of photoshop program? If i can't then by all means do not answer it.... In which case you will have made a very unpowerful enemy this day.
Just kidding. That Scarecrow reminds me of the BTAS design though... am I alone on that?

Sweet, I got called, "sir." My life is now complete. I need more enemies ((as I think that would stir me into some form of action for once)) but I'll answer, anyway: The first two were done in Photoshop, the others were done with Corel Painter. BTAS, eh? Probably a skullish mask and trenchcoat combination? Heh. I actually got most of my inspiration for that from Crimson Mist, I think. He's such a hard villian to try and design a cool, creepy costume for . . .

Scarecrow is my all time favorite Batman villain and your work captured him perfectly. That first picture, especially, was amazing.

Thank-you, and I'm happy to see another Scarecrow fan- if you're interested, I have a couple other Scarecrow works on my website (littlezas.net) but I already showed the best ones here I think, heh. oh... i meant ma'am. no disrespect intended. very nice work nevertheless. "Sir" sounds much more youthful and less "being humored" than, "ma'am." I think I'd prefer, "my lord" or, "your lordship" above all others, though. Hee hee, I really don't mind. It's actually more of a compliment in this society as you didn't assume what are stereotyped as the more "feminine" qualities towards me like submissiveness or weakness. It's terrible that that can be construed as a compliment, though. Heh. But thank-you for the intentional and much cooler compliment to my art, man.

Dude! Your art is awesome! I love the painted feel to the pieces, yet you've used computer software to get the look... Very nice. You have a fantastic grasp of what ever you are drawing, and the first Scarecrow actually looks scary, something that is so rare to see nowadays! Welcome onboard the DC2!

Hee hee, thank-you for the welcome . . . You've given me such great compliments, "thank-you"s feel really inadequate but I am very very flattered- thank-you! Welcome to the DC2! OMG!!!THATSFRICKINAMAZINGIVEBEENTRYINGTOGETTHATPAINTIBGLOOKFORSOOLONGTHAT'SFANTASTTICICATBELEIVEMYEYES... (stay calm, deep breaths) Uh, ahem, yes. well done! Ah, you're sweet. Anyway, I know that frustration you were feeling about getting that "painting" look- I was really feeling it until just a few months ago . . . Then someone my sister works with randomly decided to give me this book: "Digital Character Design and Painting" ((<--link)) by Don Seegmiller, and . . . Man. It was such a great book- I can't even begin to describe how helpful it was. It was like, one day I was getting really frustrated that I couldn't make Painter look as good as I could get a traditional painting to look and I was just pissed and feeling useless . . . Then the next couple days I read all the relevent chapters in the book, and then the very next painting was that picture of Dr. Crane and Dr. Friitawa up there. ^ It was such a huge leap in my skill level that I shocked myself! I'm used to newfound abilities taking gradual time to master but this book just opened up my brain to being able to understand how to make Painter work for me the change was as quick as a lightning strike! What I learned also has helped me with Photoshop and traditional art. So . . . If you ever get the chance, check out that book. It will teach you so much about working with digital mediums; no art book has really helped me before but this one did. Heh, that's how I'm feeling about all these great comments you all are leaving. I really appreciate the feedback; it makes me feel inspired to hurry and get some more stuff done.

Really and truly beautiful work, Zas. It once again goes to show how insanely versatile programs like Photoshop and Painter truly are. But your painter's eye made these pictures the interesting character pieces that they are, no doubt. Awesome work! Thanks for sharing and I can't wait to see more!! (and if you would ever like to do a cover for DC2...... )

beautiful work. The hands you compose are perfect. The cocky Riddler is great, but I do enjoy the uber-creepy Scarecrow!

Some of those actually creep me out. Let me tell you, I wouldn't want to meet your Scarecrow in a dark alley, or anywhere for that matter. He would probably be able to scare the crap out of me without even using fear toxin. Imagine if he had looked like this in Batman Begins, instead of a guy with a ripped potato sack over his head and suit and tie!

(and if you would ever like to do a cover for DC2...... ) I can't wait to get more done either- But my university professors just don't seem to understand the important things in life- like comics and fanart. I think it would be fun to give a cover a try sometime, heh. beautiful work. The hands you compose are perfect. The cocky Riddler is great, but I do enjoy the uber-creepy Scarecrow! Hands are a great source of fascination for me- I'm positively thrilled that you're getting the same sense of enjoyment from them through my art. And thank-you. Some of those actually creep me out. Imagine if he had looked like this in Batman Begins, instead of a guy with a ripped potato sack over his head and suit and tie! Hee hee, I loved that aspect about the "Fear of Faith" No Man's Land bits- Scarecrow's ability to prey on people's fears without any fear toxin involved- Very fair I think as he was the Sinister Scarecrow before his fear gas even started showing up. I'm torn because I'm an absolute fool for Cillian Murphy's devastatingly blue eyes, but he is very much not Jonathan Crane of the comics- too much of a petite, pretty boy, heh. Thank-you for your comments.
