Yeah, I'm old enough and dorky enough to remember those little "digest-sized" collections of DC comics that used to be sold at grocery store checkouts (you heard me right, you whippersnappers...grocery stores! None of these 'super markets' yer always talkin' about!). There's talk going on behind the scenes of a collection of DC2's best for a special Treasury Edition collection and it made me wonder what everyone around here feels should be in such a title. I'm not saying that this is what will decide these things, obviously. But I love opinions, and curious where different people's opinions lay on the matter of stories and art and titles. So I figured I'd start this thread and see what people think. And of course, not just DC2, but the whole multiverse, over at Elseworlds and DC3 as well. What are the best covers? stories? arcs? characters?
Take care Don

Great question, Don!
I just did a quick browse, and something that jumps off the rack to me, that hasn't had a lot of attention, but should be read by all, is Doom Patrol #4, written by Brandon Herren (with a Killerseamonkey cover). A brilliant story!
Also, last year's Nemesis mini-series by House Of Mystery deserves another look--- it's fantastic and a lot of fun!

(I remember those Blue Ribbon Digests, too! I still have my Untold Legend of the Batman and a few Years Best Comic Stories!)

I always grab those old Digests whenever I stumble across them (at a good price, of course...their rarity can sometimes make them expensive). My fave is a Batman Family Digest that introduced me to one of the best Batman stories ever: "Night of the Reaper!" Finally hunted down the original, full-size version of that issue a few years ago. ;D

I still have 14 of those books actually, and occasionally go out to collect more. I recommend eBay where you can find a lot them at cheap prices. Blue Ribbon Digest is where I first met the JSA and the Seven Soldiers and began my love of them; as well as Shining Knight, the original Suicide Squad and the Legion of Super-Heroes.
As for stories to get into our "Best of DC2", I'd definitely lean toward The Guardian #2, which was a wonderfully emotional story. Ultimate Gotham Girls #6, which just had a great gut punch kind of ending. The Flash story Kevin wrote, I can't recall which issue, but it was widely (and appropriately) praised. A few different issues of New Outsiders could easily go in there. And as for art, anything drawn by Steve Howard (the third part of the Birds of Prey All-Star run or BoP #1 are great examples), Ramon's work, and several of the covers for DC2 Showcase volume 2 were very cool and would make great additions. I'll have to look through the various titles I've read and pick out more selections of each to be more fair and accurate to people, for sure.
Take care Don
