An awesome debut! I love me some Parasite (as you know, Pat ) and I think you got him pitch perfect in your characterisation. It was dangerous for Superman to lead him to do what he did to him, but I'm glad it turned out all right! Lots of nice little moments throughout, and I'm glad you've done something with the cast, given it a bit of a shake up, and introduced some new-- yet familiar to some-- faces. So you've set the board, you've given us hints of what's to come... and you've got me hook line and sinker (ooooh, that reminds me, Aquaman was out too this week! Nice showing, sir )! The issue read fast, and efficiently, and I cannot wait for the next issue. Bravo, Pat! Five stars!

The cover was phenomenal. Beautiful. I was really impressed by the pencilling, but the key was the inking. It was bright and popped out really well.
Now, for the writing. Nice job on introing a new character and an old villain, as well as putting out a few plotline hooks for us to bite on. Small criticism though, this story was very formulaic. I mean, Clark meets a guy he doesn't like, but then the guy pulls a "Superman's Best Pal" and tells him how to beat Parasite with his scientific know-how? It's a bit too Saturday Morning Cartoon for me. In a way, it had a strong comic book feel, which was endearing and fun, but this story lacked some depth. Overall, very good though, and I'm especially looking forward to more Superboy.
4 stars

It is definatley daunting to be taking the reins for this title from Roy who did some real brilliant stuff with it. Adding Edward Lytener to the cast of characters is going to cause some hijinks both good and bad for most of the characters in the book. Thanks for reading!

Reminds me of the George Reeves using his signature crash through the wall stunt. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Sorry it ended up having a bit of a Saturday Morning Cartoon feel to it. I felt it was important to quickly establish Lytener's history, personality, and relationship with other characters right off the bat. It's no much now that he helped Superman that he's his "Pal"(that still belongs to Jimmy ), but it makes it so Clark just doesn't dislike the hell out of him and actually has some respect toward Edward's own skill. This will end up playing a big role in coming issues. If you're looking forward to more on Superboy then next issue is where you want to go ;D Thanks again for reading!

This was an okay issue of Action Comics, the new writer trying to make himself at home, and it had a few bumps along the way as a result. There were some nice seeds laid down for the future stories, and that'll be interesting to watch develop. On the other hand, the main story seemed to be lacking. Edward Lytener could be an interesting supporting character, but I think there was too much of a rush to make him known and acceptable to the readers. There was no real reason for Clark to dislike him, so working at a way to make Clark get over his dislike was also unnecessary. The solution to defeating the Parasite he suggested also seemed rather odd, and a weakness a creature like the Parasite doesn't really need. Kal-El was well-written, by and large, as both Superman and Clark, and I definitely got a lot of the Christopher Reeve/movie Clark mannerisms in your descriptions, which I liked. Lois seemed incredibly shrewish though, but maybe she's been like that in the series throughout. Good luck as you continue your efforts on the issue, and here's looking forward to you developing and getting us better and better Superman stories as you settle into the driver's seat. Take care Don

There were some nice seeds laid down for the future stories, and that'll be interesting to watch develop. Thanks for taking the time to read the issue, Don. Yeah I'll even admit this was tough issue to write and I think you summed it up pretty well. I was making myself at home and sometimes you just got to test if the couch is comfortable. ;D I might not say that it was necessarily a "dislike" that Clark had for Edward but more of an uncertainty of him with a tad bit of jealousy mixed in from well just about everyone at the Planet(besides good 'ole pal Jimmy of course) seeming to be completely head over heels for Lytener including Perry and apparently Lois. Sorry if his introduction felt a bit too rushed though. Does any creature NEED any weakness? My thought process while I was trying to come up with an interesting way to defeat Parasite was the fact that all organisms can eat too much. It wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for Parasite to just be able to stuff his "face" with energy without any limit to how much he could drain after awhile. That's where my inspiration for the character comes from. It's not intentional but when I write either Clark or Superman the first image that pops into my mind is Christopher Reeve so it shows a bit in my writing I guess. In my mind he will always be Superman. Sorry if she came off a bit shrewish. That was not my intent at all. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment, Don! Thanks for the critiques as well, sir. I will most definatley take them into consideration for future issues.

Well, I've been needing a Superman fix, what with Supes not even being in his own titles and new krypton not catching my interest.... so, I noticed that Action here was under a new writer...perfect jumping on point!
I read it and, I gotta say, Pat....
*sigh* How can I phrase this eloquently?....
It was great! (thought I was going a different direction there, didn't you? lol)
Although, I do agree with Don that Lois seems a bit "shrewish" as he put it, but, other than that, great read..... this is the first story of yours I've had the pleasure of reading, Pat, and it wasn't a disappointment! keep it up!

I was in the middle of commenting on this issue yesterday when the workstation I was using shutdown (Argh! : ; but when I came back to comment, I saw that Don had pretty much verbatim said everything I was going to say ! A solid debut, but than Roy and Brian are a hard act to follow. I am confident this writer will grow into this title, as this issue shows much promise. Superman is in good hands! That cover was simply amazing. Loved it a lot, and look forward to seeing more from Steven Howard.

Fantastic cover. Loved it.
I agree with some of the other reviewers that this had a Superman the Movie vibe to it, especially the Daily Planet scenes, and that's not a bad thing, Although too much of the "mild-mannered" Clark can grate on me.
Love the Parasite and the monster Parasite here worked for me. I thought it was a cool way to defeat him, though it did seem like you wanted to get the Edward character established so quickly that having him suggest the solution like that felt somewhat forced. I do understand why you wrote it like that, though.
Overall I thought it was a solid beginning to your run. The characterizations in general were strong (hey, Lois has always had a little "shrew" in her) and I'm looking forward to seeing where you take the Man of Steel next.

That's a "swell" comment. Damn I'm starting to be mild mannered too! ;D
Yeah I undeniably admit that I really wanted to establish Edward that it did turn out to be a little too quick of an introduction.
Thanks for taking the time to comment!
