I was reluctant to like this, because I have a dislike of the idea of there being a Superboy...
But this...
It worked...

I have to give this one an "okay". Superboy and the LSH was the first comic I picked up....way back in the good ol' days But....I have to say, I was not entirely thrilled with the notion of incorporating the Byrnes Clark instead of a SA style Superboy. Kal-El first...Clark second. Also, Garth's attitude reminded me of the attitude of the Post Zero-Hour reboot Garth. The story was well written, however, and should appeal to those that prefer the post Zero hour Legion and the Byrnes Clark Kent. Dylan

I have to say...what I loved about this was it's refreshing re-do of the ideas. I, too, love the Silver Age Superboy and Legion, (if for the camp-factor alone) but this story felt more like an episode of Smallville, which places it in current context and has a more digestable quality. (In the sense that you don't have to know 50 years of continuity to follow it and you can immediately put it into context.) And it's like you said, it was very well written and I loved what he did with the villains.

I'm just trying to figure out why that pic was used instead of the one Jim drew... The pic that was used was just for my personal collection and not meant to be a visualization of the characters.
Thanks for the kind words Chuck & Jim!

LL, I already said something to D. and he said he forgot about it not having a cover until the last minute and grabbed that one from your thread elsewhere I think. I didn't know what the mystery story was until yesterday so wasn't able to tell D. that the other one even exists! If it's cool with you I'll rework that one in a bit for over here and post it up so it can replace the other one for a quick fix. -B. Edit: The deed is done. Go on over and check it out!

The cover guffaw was entirely my doing. Mea culpa, frater! Absolvo!
I'm a big fan of the LSH (and NONE of the reboots), and I felt this fit nicely with my sense of nostalgia. The only thing I didn't like was Saturn Girl's crush on Clark (personal preference, not a criticism)--- though it did allow for some nice moments with Garth.
The villains were excellently portrayed, especially Mekt (but I would have liked to see a more cataclysmic face-off between the brothers, even though this is Clark's story). Next time, maybe (hint, hint, hint...)?
I've never seen an episode of Smallville, but this sort fits in with Mark Waid's Birthright reimagining of Clark's early years. And I did put this under the continuity aegis...
When can we expect a LSH ongoing, Scott?

I almost stopped reading when I saw the "Smallville" references -- I never got into that show -- but my love of old-school Legion made me stick with it, and I'm glad I did. This was great! Everything flowed perfectly, and you even managed to name-drop M'Onel and Ultra Boy, two of my faves (you bring in Timber Wolf and I'll be your fangirl for life!). I'm polishing up my old flight ring and looking forward to more...Long Live the Legion!

Hey, as far as the cover goes...I loved Scott's version! Seriously, one of his best I think.

Okay, I'm still catching up because of my crazy week but I've read the first two issues of the story so I'll go ahead and comment. I love it! Great work, Scott! I can't believe there isn't more SMALLVILLE love on the board but I think it works perfectly in comparasion to the show. This is actually the episode I've been wanting to see. After seeing the Superman cartoon where the Legion shows up and how smartly they allowed for Clark to have a Superboy adventure without being Superboy, I've just been waiting for them to try something like this on SMALLVILLE because it would be perfect. Anyway, I no longer have to wait because you wrote it. Thanks!

You're welcome! And so it's clear here... one of the reasons I didn't want my pic to be the cover is because it would pin THAT version of the Legion to this story... Nor did I want Clark, in the pic Jim drew, to look like Tom Welling... This is not 'Smallville'. I wrote it to be an 'ultimate' style Legion & young Clark Kent... so I added aspects of each version to create my own.
The John Byrne era Clark was great (as loate as I am to admit it since John is such a wanker), I like Chloe Sullivan from Smallville, so I tossed her in there. My Lana is more in line with the John Byrne history as well, yet Pete is the same old Pete from every version (except Smallville).
I gave Imra a crush on the idea of Superman that was just enforced when she saw Clark. Lightning Lad is a hot-head that feels he has a lot to prove to win over Imra & Cos is a control freak. But an effective one.
Anyway, glad you all enjoyed it!

Hiya, gotta say I was ready to not like this because I wanted the old Superboy with the trap door in the floor that lead to a tree outside of town. I reaaly get tired of Cark teen angsting himself to death in Smallville and whining about his powers. I liked this story and I do see how it nicely incorporated mythos from all the different versions. Now. What I would like to see in the future (pun intended) is for the future trio to come back and take Clark with them to the future. Sorta like a preview for him of what he is to become. Take him to the Superman museum....that sort of thing and lo and behold....some crisis comes up where he has to don the suit and help out. That way he gets training in being Superman, he can be Superboy and still return to the past where he can be Clark. hmmmmm

Not the end is right!
That was an excellent story. You took an old idea (terminate the problem) and gave it a simple twist and great characterization. The mix of Smallville, Legion, and Silver Age worked really nicely. This story is what DC2 is about, a universe that has a modern feel without losing what makes comics great.

A good start. I especially liked Pete's cow tipping line.
On the picky front, there were a few typos. Apart from lots of apostrophe-related ones that I'll skip, "She shorter dark haired teen" should have been "The shorter dark haired teen", "he waived his hand" should have been "he waved his hand", "threw his hair" should have been "through his hair", "waste deep in the murky water" is either clever wordplay or should be "waist deep in the murky water", "regain he strength" should have been "regain his strength", the line "unconscious Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad floating face down in the lake" was ambiguous - I thought it meant they were both floating face down in the lake and thought that Imra was really mean giving Garth CPR while Rokk was still drowning, "to have it touch his skin would be fatal, to have it imbedded in his skin would kill him within minutes" didn't seem to make sense, "Clark's and his parents" should have been "Clark and his parents", "and lead him away" should have been "and led him away".
Also don't know why Saturn Queen was taunting Imra with "as soon as Kal El is dead, you will cease to exist" since presumably Saturn Queen would cease to exist too. Also can't see what's to prevent the LoSV just popping back to Smallville a couple of days earlier/later (or even doing a Tempus and turning up at Clark's arrival) and trying again. They'd be bound to succeed eventually.

Wow...
As far as the typo's & grammatical errors go: good catch. I don't know how many times I've read, my wife has read, everyone has read this & no one brought them to my attention. I appreciate that.
As far as Saturn Queen's comment goes, you could really say the same thing regarding any of the time travel stories in the regular DCU. This same type of story has happened before, I just wanted to bit of a modern spin on it by incorporating some aspects of Smallville & blending different 'Superman' histories into the mix. Saturn Queen meant mainly that the Legion would cease to exist since it's main inspiration was Superman. That was the main focus of the LSV, make the Legion cease to exist. If that were to happen the villains would have free reign of the 31st century. The problem, however, with time travel stories is that, the moment the LSV stole the time travel device and went back in time (Briany theorized) nothing changed in the future. This meant that the LSV were stopped, the question was how. So Brainy sent the 3 founders into the past, theorizing that this is what had to happen. The problem with the LSV is they do not have a 'Brainy' in their court, or else they would have known they had not succeeded the moment they went back. I think the basic feeling is, they were beaten, badly, and the Legion would always be there to stop them.
Time travel discussions give me a headache.
Anyway, thank you again for the honest criticism, it is very appreciated!

This was awesome. At certain points it was hard to keep up with who was doing what but it was really well plotted. I liked the little hints of Saturn Girl having a little crush on Clark, that was hilarious. Here's to hopping we see more of those crazy Legion kids.

I really enjoyed this special as a means of establishing DC2 continuity in regards to LSH and Superboy.
This has been messed with at DC numerous times thru repeat retcons. Let us hope that DC2 will maintain some consistency in this area.
As for the story, well truth be told I found the pacing a little hurried. I would have preferred seeing this stretched over a mini-series in order to build up the plot/sub-plots.
We need to know more about the LSH and the Villains considering this is our DC2 introduction to them.
Good effort though.

Welcome to the site, Rowdy!
Actually... It was meant to be a mini-series, but the powers that be wanted to post it as a one shot on our opening day! If it would have been released that way it would have been much more suspenceful... Although the story would have been exactly the same.
As far as the character development of the villains, I did it this way by choice just to introduce the Legion to the DC2 readers. I wanted to see if there was enough interest in the Legion characters to go forward with their own title. There was, so now I'm tackling that.
The Superboy that was Clark Kent will stay put in the 21st century where he belongs. I don't plan to bring him to the 31st century. Though someone else may carry that name... or may not. Haven't made up my mind there yet!
If you like the era of the Legion, check out the Tales of the Green Lantern Corps Special: Vidar. It explains the reason for the lack of GL's in the 31st century U.P. as well as giving an under-used Legion villain a better origin! Then give Legion #0 a shake & let me know what you think!
