I just have to step in to thank Craig and Ramon yet again for stepping up to the plate with another spectacular cover. "New Gods" is a long way from being among the more popular books on the DC2, and the saddest thing about that is that it means that sometimes the cover-work gets passed over- and really, it is incredible. The prominence of the white Boom Tube draws the eye immediately, and the detail and expression put into Lightray- particularly his face- is fantastic. It's the nature of the beast that the Fourth World never seems to get much attention and clearly my writing has not managed to ensnare people, but dammit, that doesn't mean these covers should go unnoticed! A great one, guys!

Fantastic issue Kevin. I know you're worried sometimes that your new issues aren't as good as your earlier ones, but I have to reassure you, you're doing fantastic things with this title, and I don't think I could see anyone else on this site using the characters. Brilliant characterisation, brilliant action, and that flashback to Izaya? Wonderful. I always liked that guy. I'm enjoying how the Forever People arc is shaping up, and I'll be back next month. Probably earlier. Because, yeah, I'm the editor.
And ALL of the people that said they'd read the book after #1? Do it! You're missing out, and you should really be supporting our less "mainstream" titles just as much as you do Batman and New Outsiders, among others. Kevin busts his arse off each month, and he deserves your readership.

wow, now there's a sales pitch that will make people flock to this title. LOL! A title, that is, worth reading every month. Scott and Barda have been two of my favorites since their days on the League, and they are just as fascinating here (although a bit more playful would be nice, but that's a tiny little nit picky thing). What is up with the Forever people! Can't wait to see more of them. Also, excellent nod to the recent happenings over in Wonder Woman as well. I love continuity. Terrific issue and superb cover! Though you might want to get a new Promotional Manager.

Sorry it took me so long to reply to this- was hoping for another response or two, but dems the breaks. Fantastic issue Kevin. I know you're worried sometimes that your new issues aren't as good as your earlier ones, but I have to reassure you, you're doing fantastic things with this title, and I don't think I could see anyone else on this site using the characters. Thanks for the reassurance and praise, Charlie- I can't see anyone else using the characters either, mainly because I'll strap on my Astro-Harness and hunt them down if they do. You're making me blush! The flashback to Izaya will continue throughout the arc (Which, yes, is titled after the very first issue of the Forever People's own comic!) in order to reveal the full origins of the DC2 Forever People- who are a bit different from their DC-proper counterparts! ...Well, I certainly appreciate the sentiment and the ringing endorsement. I was thinking about sticking it in my sig- "New Gods- Because Kevin Bursts His Ass Off Each Month". I have absolutely fallen in love with Scott and Barda- I could write them forever, particularly the strong character of Barda, one of comics' great female characters. I can see why you want more playfulness, but I'd say that the theft of the Radion- which, after all, could kill their friends if it falls into the wrong hands, not to mention themselves!- warrants a graver response- your response may differ! What indeed? We'll be seeing a LOT of the revamped Forever People next month- I've tried to put a new spin on them while keeping them the core of the Kirby characters. But just where the heck have they been and why aren't they out there beating up Darkseid's goons already? All shall be revealed! Well, I can't take much credit here- Charlie writes Diana (and does a damn fine job, I might add!) and he edits this book, so it was easy to synch up- nevertheless, yes, that little Mother Box and it's movement are definitely worth watching! LOL! Thanks for all the words of praise, Brian- I welcome your view each and every month, and hopefully New Gods can improve more and more in the months to come!

I'm kicking myself over not reading this book sooner.
Honestly, this might be the best book on the site. Your handle on all the characters is excellent, and the skill of tying everything together is extremely well done. I love seeing The Forever People in action (Big fan of the team) and I love the nod to the original series by Kirby with the Infinity Man dispatching the Gravi Guards. (I probably just messed up typing their names...)
One of the things that impresses me the most is your use of Darkseids minions without Darkseid himself. Your showing that not only are they major threats even without their master, but their not just one dimensional, one trick ponies. Seriously, them casually mentioning that they can grow, or shrink to any size they want like it wasn't a big deal made me laugh out loud. THAT is how you write the New Gods man.
I'll be back next issue for sure. Five stars isn't enough to rate this series.

I'm kicking myself over not reading this book sooner. Honestly, this might be the best book on the site. Your handle on all the characters is excellent, and the skill of tying everything together is extremely well done. Wow. That's.... very, very high praise, and I'm absolutely thrilled you enjoyed it that much. Not much I can say other than to thank you for your very kind words. In that case, you should enjoy next issue, which has a big focus on the Forever People. As you may gather, the DC2 Forever People aren't quite the same as the original- the concept is the exact same, each character is essentially the same, but they've been updated a bit to try and bring them away from just being "hippies" and more in line with what Kirby intended- pure, shining archetypes of everything positive about modern youth. I love little throwbacks like that, but usually no-one gets them but me, so it's great to see you pick up on that! (The Infinity Man's first line is also the same as his first line from Forever People #1, the title of issue 3- "Evil Factory"- was the same as the title of the third original Fourth World comic, an issue of Jimmy Olsen, the first words of Simyan and Mokkari in that issue are also the exact same as their first in the original, and this story shares its name with the first issue of Forever People- "In Search of a Dream". Just FYI. ) I honestly believe the Fourth World is pretty much unique in just how many amazing, colourful characters- both hero and villain- there are, all created in such a short space of time, all within one mythos. And yeah, I think there is this feeling that they'd all be useless without Darkseid, but I wanted to show them as massive forces of nature by themselves. Ultimately, they're Gods of Evil, and they are individually absolutely TERRIFYING threats, let alone when united under their lord. So if I've managed to bring that across, I'm very glad, because that was an aim of mine.... ...and so was this! I know there are many schools of thought about this but for me, The New Gods are... well, Gods, they're as far beyond a super hero as, say, Superman is beyond a normal man. So things like size changing, reality bending, all of that seemed logical to me as well within the scope of their ability. Again, thank you so much for your incredibly kind words, and I hope you enjoy next issue!
