Well, I cannot comment on the first story for personal reasons.
However, the second story blew my mind. It's somewhat difficult to believe that the Titans are the only functioning resistance to the Markovian Empire, and now we see that there is, in fact, another. The way it's set up is great and really puts the reader in the shoes of Pieter. Good stuff. I'm looking forward to when the Society meets up with the Titans.

Glad you liked it, UDC!
I had a lot of fun plugging the JS(A) into Jay's wonderfully realized Elseworlds universe. I think whatever success this annual enjoys is a testament to what he has built, as much as it is the effort the writers and artist have put into it--- speaking, of: great cover by Jay Z, eh?

The seeds of the Justice Society: The Resistance story were laid back when the first six issues was only an outline. Then-Elseworlds editor "The Tony Clifton" suggested other heroes should be mentioned. So, a wheelchair-bound Bruce Wayne made mention in issue # 1 of where a number of heroes were scattered around the world, including three JSAers; GL Alan Scott, Doctor Midnight, and Wildcat.
Idlewilder, that prolific soul, picked up on this and was intrigued, and I in turn encouraged him to do something with it, since of course the JSA is home ground to him, so to speak. His story is the result. I hope to see more of them before the Titans have their final battle with the Empire--but as that story is several years away, I think it more than possible.
All of that said, David blew my mind, as he did Ultimate DCs, with this epic narrative. Very well done. I was mildly surprised that Hawkman did not survive, but given how many heroes are already dead--or never suited up in the first place--in the Resistanceverse, perhaps this is not surprising. And as the story itself indicated, many times others are willing to take up the legacies of those that have fallen...
Ultimate DC was ready, and eager, to do a story in the Resistanceverse. He had a number of ideas, some of which I had to reluctantly throw out due to their conflicts with my own plans or for other reasons. So he polished up this gem of a Ravager/Connor Hawke story, and it is a wonderful suspense thriller that manages to introduce Connor on the one hand, and flesh out Ravager and her seagoing life on the other, in ways I hadn't even thought of.
Both stories deserve five stars, as does the cover by Zirron, which follows the "split" format that has now become iconic for this series ( # 1 and #7 were also this way).
I am confident there will be a second annual next year, and each year following, so long as the main series shall last. Perhaps next year's work will feature more than two stories; or at least, such is my plan.

I think the writing here is world class.. I can see why this series is so successful.. it's because of it's writers and artists over the last year..
Hats off to the creative team that made this Elseworld series what it is. ***** stars.

I'm sorry I took so long to read this, but when I finally got to it...this was wonderful work. The JSA story really showed the scope of the changes wrought in this "Resistance" world, which we only see in small glimpses when following the Titans. And the alternate view of Connor as reluctant rich boy was one I never would have thought of, but it played great here. I do hope to see more stories like this, even if they only come once a year.
