Well, there's a lot that's happening in here, that's for sure. Lots of fighting, lots of big epic scope action, and it's definitely developing a massive amount of appropriate cosmic tension for the big anniversary issue. The action remained steady, and well-done; easy to follow, good solid tension by and large, and the characters all seemed to have their own voice. I just wish I knew what was happening. You give this one recap about the series, but just about none of what was recapped mattered in the slightest to the story in question, which was a shame.
The sheer amount of colored dialogue shifting made for some difficult reading just as you were hitting the big build-up for the cliffhanger, and that detracted for me. I understand the desire, and I use it myself from time to time, but this was very heavy-handed.
So good job, and good luck with your monster-sized #50.
Take care Don

Little displeased with the contrast in the shadows on this cover. I was going for sharp contrast, but I think it's a little heavy. Or maybe I need to calibrate my monitor at work... :-\
As for the issue, I enjoyed it. Definitely got a sense of the roller-coaster momentum off the drop. A good build-up for ISSUE 50. Took me a bit to get my bearings, having not read the previous issues, but it was still a good read. And any time I get to draw Atrocitus is a good time. :-)

If you're wanting to send over another version with any changes you want to make, feel free and I'll post it up. There's so much going on in this book right now, and I apologise for throwing you head first into the story! I need to write a really bloody concise Previously On... for #50, but even then, the last six issues flow together into one story, it's going to be hard to get it right! Atrocitus, eh? Well, as much as I love the Red Lantern, something Don said to me once has always stayed with me... why do all Lanterns need to use rings? Not a spoiler for #50, but something I intend to revisit over the next year or so... why do all Lanterns need to use rings?
Well, they don't.

You know I appreciate it when you check in on what I'm doing! I'd have recommended reading #4 before this (then #5, then #6... ) but even then, it's all pretty dense, and like I've said elsewhere, potentially quite inaccessible if you dive in away from an issue that isn't #1, ha. Thanks for the luck! I'll need it! One last run through needed then it's ready to go... again... for the fourth time...

Big ramp-up for the big #50 here, and another fantastic issue in its own right. Each issue flows from one to the next, with gripping cliffhangers that keep me coming back week after week. SPOILERS! The story itself is big and intersting, with huge stakes, but the really fun stuff is the character work. I was never really a fan of Kyle Rayner (Meh. The 90s), but his story in the DC2 is compelling: he re-lit the damn universe (whatever that means--- I'm not critiquing the wonky physics of it, just the badass storytelling ). In fact, Kyle's powers verge on the godlike--- or at least Guardian-like ("I imagined it and it happened!"). His line about "being here to protect you." gave me goosebumps (not for the last time this issue, though). Always before he creeped me out, I now love Salakk. His warning to the universe was cold-blooded and cool. The dynamic of Sinestro among the Earth Lanterns is fun and edgy: the old GL veterans and the backwater terrestrial primates. Loving his voice, and the fact that he's not the moustache twirling one-note character of the Silver Age (though, for the record, I still do like him best as a villain--- here's hoping!). But he's still snarky and smart and, well, sinister-ish, so I'm happy! Because he's such an effective Green Lantern--- he really does make the others look like rookies. So, John Stewart's "death" made me all but gasp outloud. Had to re-read that line. Wow. Whiplash moment! Of course, all the coolest stuff of this issue came from that moment, too. The return of Hank Henshaw to the fold (another character I never cared for much, but has me enthralled in this title), the execution of Mongul (that was way to easy to stick) the almost weirdly-instant resurrection of John Stewart (damn, Sinestro is awesome), the Wonder-Twinning ring-cloning of John and Hank (damn, Sinestro is awesome, again), and the steely phrase: "Think green thoughts" (another goosebumps moment, and--- damn, Sinestro is awesome some more!)! Guy's rallying of Oa against the Red Lanterns was a bit outside the Comics Code Authority, but seemed right for his character--- just shocking to see the F-word. And I love how Hal first tried to reason with Atrocitus, then called up a sword and was all like, "Let's do this then." (more goosebump moments) The Predator entity and Evil Star bit was a truly creepy scene. Nothing good will come of this. So much going on in this book, I can't believe all of it will wrap up in the big anniversary next issue. So I suppose I'm in for the long haul. Charlie, what you're accomplishing on this title is nothing short of amazing, and certainly your best work on the site. Bring on #50!

Big ramp-up for the big #50 here, and another fantastic issue in its own right. Each issue flows from one to the next, with gripping cliffhangers that keep me coming back week after week. I think I've said before (but who knows anymore, I say a lot) that it was always the intention for each issue to draw you in and leave you hanging. As the release schedule accelerated I think that worked in the book's favour, as it's bang bang bang all the way to #50. There's no chance for you to catch your breath! Obviously it's not accessible to new readers, which is a shame, but all the more reason to start from the first issue of the arc! I can't wait to put this together for an Arc Reader post when it's all done. I'm really pleased with how Kyle has progressed from my first issue writing him to the latest issue I wrote (#51) and I've got a clear plan for him from that point forward. Kyle has always been a character I loved, and I think the first issue I read him in was Joe Kelly's first issue of JLA (I might be wrong), but he was fun and I loved it. I then went back and churned through as many issues of the character as I could (some Marz / Banks stuff in TPB) and I enjoyed it all-- he's my GL! So I think I have a soft spot for him, and I'm finding him easier and easier to write as I go. Godlike powers? Read Green Lantern #51 when it hits in December. Always before he creeped me out, I now love Salakk. His warning to the universe was cold-blooded and cool. I'm working on making him more than just this "protocol Lantern" that was in Tomasi's Green Lantern Corps title. I want him to be a character, to have a clear, distinct voice. That's a work in progress, but he's coming along nicely. I'm especially pleased with his speech. Sinestro is a Green Lantern once more! Where will he go from here? Hopefully sharing all the knowledge he accrued during his initial run with his ring, but definitely training Kyle... that's going to be a major part of the dynamic moving forward... White Lantern trained by Green Lantern, but how long can the latter train someone who is infinitely more powerful than him? So, John Stewart's "death" made me all but gasp outloud. Had to re-read that line. Wow. Whiplash moment! There's a lot of subtext to that moment, a lot that was left unsaid, but I didn't want to bog the scene down with "this is why this happened and this is why it's feasible", but there were reasons, I felt, that John could be bought back, and I'm considering addressing it-- clearing it all up-- in an upcoming issue. John Stewart died. There are implications. They will be addressed. I am loving writing a smart, dynamic Sinestro. His moments are some of the best moments. Guy's rallying of Oa against the Red Lanterns was a bit outside the Comics Code Authority, but seemed right for his character--- just shocking to see the F-word. And I love how Hal first tried to reason with Atrocitus, then called up a sword and was all like, "Let's do this then." (more goosebump moments) I loved writing that moment for Guy. Absolutely loved it. I don't intend for it to be a recurring thing, but Guy just seems to be interrupting Hal's speeches in all the recent stories I'm writing... and Hal's moment trying to be the better man was an important one for him, and his current arc. He doesn't want a war, he wants to be at home with his family. Hopefully he makes it through #50 without losing everything all over again... The Predator entity and Evil Star bit was a truly creepy scene. Nothing good will come of this. Evil Star is being set up to be a very different character than you might be used to... So much going on in this book, I can't believe all of it will wrap up in the big anniversary next issue. So I suppose I'm in for the long haul. There are aspects that are resolved, there are some that are left hanging, but it's all stuff that will be addressed... at some point... Charlie, what you're accomplishing on this title is nothing short of amazing, and certainly your best work on the site. Bring on #50! Ah, David, please... you're honestly making me blush
