I think I've finally found someone who can write the Hulk to a point that I not only enjoy, but wait anxiously for more! Who'd have thunk it!
The opening had that same sadness to it, preparing me for what I thought was going to be another heartfelt story of the tragedy that is Bruce Banner.
Then... BAM! We get a very violent and suspensful (as well as brilliantly visual) battle between two monsters. I have to admit that I read this battle twice, the second time enjoying and understanding it much more than the first time through.
At first I thought it was a bit too brutel, but the second time around I realized that this is exactly how these two creatures of primal rage would go about it.
Then, just when Charlie has your eyes bulging at such an intense battle, we get a resolution that brings the entire thing full circle, bringing that sadness back, but not just for Bruce, but for the General too.
This is such an amazing opening two issue's. (And yes, I am purposely not commenting on the sub-plot that seems to be building because I don't want to ruin it for others) But people need to read this!
If Charlie has been having writers block, it sure doesn't show in this book. This honestly is some of the best work I've seen Charlie put out... ever! And that is one helluva tall order coming from someone as prolific as this young man.
My hat is off to you!

Hmm, well, Brian certainly seemed to enjoy this issue. As did I, but not nearly on the same level. Now, it was obvious, as established by the last issue (which was absolutely amazing, btw) that this was going to be an action issue, and on that note it delivered. In spades. The fight scenes between the Abomination and the Hulk was phenomenal, I don't think I've read that exciting of a fight in a long long time. However, I feel that the whole naming the Abomination felt really cheesy. That was not the only thing that felt cheesy, the whole ending felt really corny and removed from what would otherwise be a fantastic issue. I am however interested in where this subplot with the guitarist is going, and it has me hooked.
I suppose one of the problems is that the 1st issue left me wanting so much more that with this, I felt slightly disappointed and that can be attributed somewhat to the amazing taste the first issue left, still, an enjoyable read, and a solid book.
Three stars!

This was a good issue. The action was solid, and it was a brutal fight with an interesting twist on harming the Hulk. That was interesting, if not to my tastes (I prefer damage resistant invulnerability, and seeing wolverine-level regeneration instead kind of bugged me...but I'm sure I"m alone in that...and I don't mind that they could hurt each other, they should, but it did bug me a bit that hte first shot the Hulk takes in his very first fight in the book breaks his jaw...but again, that's just me).
The twist on the story, and giving us Banner in action was pretty interesting. I found Banner to be an irritant, to be honest, and didn't much care for him. I also found the ending to be somewhat implausible. Banner wanted to be put into a cell to keep him from endangering more people, so the man who's been hunting him in order to do jsut that...doesn't? All of that ending seemed like the worst elements of those "Fugitive" TV shows where some strained explanation is brought up to keep the status quo of the show from being ended and ending the series.
However, I did like Ross, he was a fascinating study in tragedy on many levels, and I did love the bit with Len Samson. but then, I love Doc Samson, and I hope we get to see the hero Doc soon (we will if I get a chance to say something about it ), and I loved the fact that much of his final scenes revolved around whether he'd hurt people and being upset by it. Good solid personalities from those two characters.
Good mood, good use of language and themes, the story was a good conclusion, but not a great one, but I'm sure Charlie will just keep making it better and better.
Take care Don

]I am happier with this issue than the last one, but lots of questions remain about the main character and the man inside. I can't seem to get past the feeling that the potential is there but it's not been achieved yet. I am sure the progression of the next issue will show it.
I liked the fight between Abomination and Hulk. It showed the utter brutality of what the Hulk really is and how is rage clouds his mind from the Human inside.... that part of it was great.
I still want to see more of General Ross I think he's the best written character in this series so far.
**** from me.
Cover was brilliant again. I get the feeling of the rage and anger between them as they fight. Well done.
