Months have passed since the greatest tragedy met upon Earth. Months have passed since The Death of the Justice League of the World. The greatest heroes that this planet had to offer slain by one man and boundless power. Months since a man fell to Earth and began the chain reaction that leads us here. Superman. Batman. United they are the Worlds Finest, but stands on opposite sides… Armageddon surely closes in on us.
This is not a world you know!
His eyes. His eyes burn red like the star that his home planet orbited around. A red sun. Rao. He’s angry, and he can’t turn off his heat vision. They say that the eyes are the windows into the soul, and this… He’s anger. Anger and rage epitomized. What did this to him? What caused this boundless rage to be unleashed? No matter. It’s here. In the now, and what can someone do to stop it from spreading across the globe? You make a stand. You stop it now. And who else could stand in the Superman’s way? Who is left?
Who else?
Draped in shadows, his armour glowing black in the fires that scour Kansas. America’s heartland, covered in fire and ash… The first wave destroying the one thing that he cared about. The first wave… It wasn’t the last. Wave after wave, striking at the heart of what he holds dear. Metropolis, gone… The Fortress, burnt out of its armoured hole like a troublesome wart. Lois Lane, dead. Ma and Pa burnt to death in their home, along with the rest of Kansas’ residents. The farm barely stands. Debris and skeletons lying across the landscape.
He takes a breath, trying to wake up from the nightmare.
Failing.
Failing and falling because, after everything that has gone before, the wars and the death, this is the end of all things.
Batman stands, opposite and old friend and grudgingly, new enemy, one he was always prepared for, his armour holding, his enemy wearing dark tatters of his own blue, red and yellow.
Failing.

Planet Fall was what they called it. One man, alone, naked to the cosmos, falling from the sky in a fiery blaze of energy. He was alive. Out of the deep crater he created, he stepped out, and took his first deep breath of Earth’s air. And he liked it. He liked it so much he took a deeper breath, filled up his lungs… And destroyed the country he landed in. He simply breathed in, his lung capacity so great, his ability to inhale so powerful… His breathing so dangerous… He created a vortex that sucked the life out of every man, woman and child in Britain. Planet Fall. The beginning of the end. It all started there. Planet Fall.
The Justice League arrived on the scene first. Green Lantern checking for radiation from the crater sight, The Flash looking for survivors. Wonder Woman flying head first into the event and looking for the culprit behind the deaths of so many. Batman stayed in the cave. Superman watched it all from above, searching for a heartbeat, for someone to draw breath. Nothing. Aquaman was of course in the oceans, but they hadn’t heard from him for so long, his membership to the League would expire in a few weeks. There are rules to this life. Rules you have to follow.
Planet Fall.
Wonder Woman was the first to fall. She found the man, naked among the debris, so familiar to all, so familiar yet so… alien. She walked right up to him, sword raised, temper so fierce… And he snapped her beautiful neck. With a twist of his wrist. She fell so gently, so quietly. Dead.

What little respect they have for each stands. They stand on opposite sides of the farm, dust and ash blowing around in the wind. They each wait for the other to make a move. They know each other so well, friends for so long… So they wait. Why’d it end up like this? Last men standing. The remains of greatness… Against each other. They may have never looked eye to eye, but they had respect. Friendship even. Why now? Why this turn of events? The sky cracks open, rain begins to fall onto the charred fields. Too late for the heavens to wash away the cursed earth, too late for God to cleanse the wounds brought upon the world.

When this happens, it all moves so fast. The Flash ran to Diana, checked her pulse, but found nothing. Dead. He knew she was dead and he ran, took her body and ran. First stop, the Cave in Gotham. “Bruce,Dianaisdeadshewaskilledinthefieldbysomeonewhowedon’tknowandidon’tknowwhyit’sallhappeningsofast…” He takes a breath, and Bruce tears of his mask, falling by the side of Diana, Wonder Woman, and Queen of Themyscira. “Oh Lord… Barry… Barry… Go back. I’ll… I…” Tears begin to form. The cracks in his armour beginning to show. Barry places his gloved hand on his friend’s shoulder. Takes a breath, prepares himself, and begins to run. Bruce looks down at the woman lying on the table next to him. He shakes his head, wipes away the tears. Breathes… And readies himself. Ready himself for a battle. He pulls the cloth over the dead Princess’ body, and just then, Alfred Pennyworth, trusted manservant, enters the dark cavern. “Master Bruce… What’s happened?” “Wonder Woman is dead.” He pulls on the cowl. The Batman. He’s The Batman. “Killed in England… Some kind of creature… Fell from the sky. Call the Embassy. Make arrangements for her to join her people.” Alfred looks down at the body covered in the white sheet and turns away, hand to mouth, shocked. He’s seen death before. Served in the Queen’s military. But this woman, an immortal… Someone who by all rights… Should have lived forever. Immortal, one of the legendary Amazons of myth. Alfred turns back to Bruce, but he’s gone, racing to the jet, racing to join the fight. Why did she die?

The armour he wears hides the scars, physical, mental. Sleek black metal and red insignia across his chest. The rain dribbles down his head, and he blinks. That’s all his enemy needed. A blink. A split second when Batman’s eyes were closed. The hero is thrown forward by the force of the punch, but not the hit itself. Kal stops himself a mere millimetre from his face, but the power of the blow… Like a concentrated vortex of might. He rolls across the dusty floor and then jerks up, his state of the art armour holding, the kinetic energy redistributed across the metal of his new costume. Superman rises off the ground, his eyes still glowing that burning, searing red, his once bright and colourful costume now burnt and in tatters. What hope does Batman have stopping the most powerful man on the planet? What hope indeed? He puts up his hands, trying to block a punch, but his arms are pushed down by his power, and then the Dark Knight lies there, Superman unleashing his fury upon him.

Hal Jordan, Green Lantern of Sector 2814, streaks down from the black clouds above England, and confronts the man who is covered in a long red mane. They can’t see his face, so obscured by the long beard and waist long hair. The man who fell from the sky and killed so many. The man looks up at the mighty warrior, the loyal soldier, and takes another breath, not out of necessity, but to try and suck the air out of this man’s lungs, to cause his lungs to pop underneath the pressure but Green Lantern is ready. His ring senses the movement and reinforces his aura, protecting him, and then he strikes out himself, hitting the creature with an emerald might unseen by any on Earth. The light shines so bright that the rest of the League can see nothing. Superman flies high above the battlefield, moments ago ready to join the fray, but now he cannot move, frozen in space by the majesty of the clash below. Hal uses everything he has been taught, all the battle techniques, the constructs shown in The Book of Oa, but the man takes everything, his skin peeling off, his eyes melting underneath the heat of the attack, his teeth are ground to dust beneath the pressure, his ear drums pop and his long, wild hair is burned off, until he stands, his skin gone, but replaced by something else… Something yellow. Hal’s eyes widen at this new turn of events, and high above the clouds Superman sees it. The man from the sky raises his hand, shrugs off the emerald attack, and a flash of light blasts out of his eyes, shooting through the green ring on Hal’s hand, and into his heart, causing the hero to fall in those scant seconds. The man smiles, and contains to walk forward. Superman shakes his head, and lands by the side of his teammate, shocked. Awed at the man’s power.

The armour can bear the brunt of the heat vision, the artic breath, even a combination of the two… Bruce Wayne grunts underneath the blows that Superman lays upon him, again and again, pounding on the armour, pounding with fists that can crush coal into diamonds, hands that have saved millions of lives, now turned to kill this man, a man once his team mate but now considered his enemy… Superman punches Batman’s armour, and grimaces. Then he hears the voice. “Why?” Gritty and monotonous, the voice speaks to him directly. “Why Clark? Why turn on us like this?” Superman takes a moments respite from his attacks on the dark vigilante, and Batman smiles beneath his armour. With a gloved hand, he places it on Superman’s chest, and a blast of green light bursts out of it, Green Kryptonite searing through the heroes’ Kryptonian skin, through internal organs and bones, scouring into his heart. Superman buckles and falls to the floor, and looks to the Dark Knight, his hand still glowing. “You’ll never destroy the League. The League is the League until the last member falls. I don’t know what insanity has overcome you, but Godammit, Clark, why the hell are you doing this?” Batman picks up the Kryptonian and flings him into the gutted barn that was one his original Fortress of Solitude. Superman falls into the wall, and rotten wood and debris falls upon him. “It doesn’t make sense…” Batman shakes his head. “You were the greatest, everyone looked up to you, and yet here you are, a murderer…” Superman looks up and smiles, blood pouring from his mouth, the damage done to his body slowly healing. “I murdered my first… Victim… When I was fourteen… You know nothing of what I am…” A gust of wind sends Batman flying out of the barn. This wasn’t adding up. Superman has never killed, not to his knowledge, and under the care of Martha and Jonathan Kent, he has never… Contemplated murder… What was happening? He picks himself up and flies forward into the barn, only to be haymaker’d through the roof, and Superman flies after him, his skin now scarring, and the radioactive wound closed. “I’ve always hated you Bruce. You always were the thorn in my side.” Batman looks down and feels his mask heat up, and then he presses a button on his hip, his invisible utility belt reacting to his thoughts and causing something to emerge from his armour. He throws the batarangs down hard and as it approaches Superman it begins to glow red, the same red as Superman’s eyes glow now. As the blade approaches the Kryptonian he begins to slow, not knowing why, but slowing none the less. He analyses the batarang but not soon enough, and as the blade slices through his flesh and scratches against the bone beneath, he knows. Red sun radiation. Had Batman thought of everything?

Seven Years Ago:
Four Days before Launch Day:
Batman, Superman and The Flash stand atop the Daily Planet building, overlooking Metropolis. Barry is as impatient as ever, and moves his position on the roof every few moments, and Batman stands, silently; waiting for what Superman has to say. “Luthor has a new plan. A new experiment.” Batman turns at the words, and arches an eyebrow. “What is it this time?” “Dimensional travel. He thinks he has created a craft that can pierce reality. Some kind of device that attunes itself to the vibrational barrier between universes. He finally believes he can prove the existence of the multiverse.” Barry laughs slightly. “He thinks he can travel to another world? Is that even legal? Is it even possible?” Batman looks at the scarlet clad hero and nods slowly. “You once told me you can relax your inner vibrations to travel to the past, and you can speed them up to travel to the future…” Barry’s eyes widen. “Could this not be a natural progression to what your powers have shown us? Time travel to dimension jumping?” Superman looks at the two heroes. “I don’t like it. I don’t like that kind of technology in his hands. We all know what red haired menace is capable of…” “Yes, we all know.” Batman nods. “I have an idea. A plan.” Barry turns at the words. “What is it? What do you think?” “We need to keep our eye on him.” Batman nods. “Barry.” He turns to The Flash. “I need you to get in touch with someone…”
