I've been eagerly awaiting this issue, and it did not disappoint. The Coming of Trigon! What surprises me most about this issue is the amount of humor--- not played for laughs, per se, but used as a window into the character's personality. I think it's doubly funny as it's coming from Mark (who's never let on that he has such a well-developed funny-bone). The scene with midnight movie was just awesome. It had it all: comedy (Gar and his stupid night owl and insomnia jokes, Plastique joking about going out alone), suspense (Element's dramatically understated warning), and finally horror (Trigon peeking through the window)! I am really enjoying the focus on the New(er) Titans, Arrowette, Element, Woodchuck and Dagon (and Gar and Vic, actually), with Element even filling the 'Jericho' role. I'm still on the edge of my seat about 'Regina', and the revelation about Arrowette's parentage was a neat surprise. The one off-note in this issue was the fight with Trigon. While well-told, it seemed lacking in drama and urgency. Now, I'm a fan of this writer's approach--- let the actions and the dialogue do the work for you---, but for me, there are times when the prose can use a little <ahem> "empurpling." But, hands down, the best scene in this issue: the talk between Donna and Dick. Dick is finally forced to reveal his true love--- and out there all the Kory and Babs 'shippers are holding baited breath... Trust me: Just Read It. Ramon, that cover is frightening, and a fitting piece to begin this epic arc. No one communicates sheer terror (the terror of Trigon, even) than Il Magnifico! What did you use, paint? Or are those markers?

Thanks for the kind words, David. More Trigony goodness next time around, so I'll try and empurple things a little more then.
Great cover, Ramon.

Conversing with Mark for as long as I have, I've known about his funny bone for a long time now. This issue just brought it out in spades. It was an issue I, too, was looking forward to... and I wasn't disappointed in the least.
However, what I was really anxious to see was the cover. I knew Ramon was going to knock our socks off, and he didn't let us down! The picture gave me shivers. Awesome job, Ramon!

I'm loving Ramon's covers recently! Really cool stuff, and this one didn't disappoint: The issue wins five stars on this quote alone. But then I started thinking... Is this issue trying to be TOO funny? It certainly seemed to be and the self aware humour is always funny, but is it too self aware? I dunno. Nice Superboy Prime joke, anyway I don't know why, but I always come to Teen Titans expecting the worst, but this issue rocked! Every issue has rocked since you came onboard as writer Mark! I think I'm just plain pesimistic. And every little dramatic moment was punctuated by me going: "Y'awesome!" So I think that's a good sign!

Mark's humor is being discussed. It's dry and understated, but yes it's there....I've tripped over it numerous times in PMs with him, and not realized what it was until afterwards.
High marks in that department go to Cyborg taking out Psimon, and Dagon's commentary about anti-vampire bias.
With all of that said, Trigon certainly does have an "oh ****" impact, and I wonder just how they ARE gonna beat him.

I loved the story,..... until Trigon appeared I dont know, but for me it felt like "Hi there, I'm Trigon. I'll destroy this universe now" - "Oh no" - "Sure Master, go on" little fight "Damn we can't stop him" - "Hey, she's your daughter" - "No" - "Yes" - "Ah, okay... I'll destroy you later. See ya..." It was just too simple IMO but I give you 4 stars

Nice Superboy Prime joke, anyway Yeah, I could be trying too hard to be funny. Most of my fanfics until DC2 had been humorous, so I tend to be veer more towards Young Justice than Teen Titans (having said that Marv Wolfman's Titans definitely had their fair share of humour). Well, if you went into each of them expecting the best, then you'd probably be disappointed every issue, so please stay pessimistic. Either that or you've got Tourette's. Anyway, thanks for the comments, Charlie.

Hopefully you'll like next issue's round two of the Trigon battle a bit more. Anyway, many thanks for the four stars and for letting me know where the story didn't work for you.

Pretty good issue, I agree with what was said about Trigon though.

Pretty good issue, I agree with what was said about Trigon though. Sorry that the Trigon battle was a bit anti-climactic and hopefully I can make amends next issue. Alternatively, if you want to read a really good battle with an all-together different large uber-powerful red villain guy with too many eyes, then I'll shamelessly plug this week's Justice League, written by my esteemed editor.
