Good stuff. I like that Amazo's the first enemy they face, although to be honest I expected Starro. Still, good first Issue.
Also, if Dr. Light is going to show up, will he be a powerful sicko or a lame joke of a villain?

If we were keeping the old ratings, this, forever and always, would be the Best Issue of the Week So I'll just have to settle for giving ***** stars and saying it's the second best #1 on the site (The Question Quarterly #1 being the first, tied with The Question #1... Check 'em out!) You've got everything you need for an awesome arc, but who's this? A disgruntled scientist living in Ivy Town? A small horrible little man? If we follow Dave's previous comments around the site, the arch enemy of the Justice League can only be one mean one thing!! THE ATOM IS HERE!

Great story and I like the cliffhanger. I also like dthat you mentioned some previous enemies they hve faced already giving a sense that they have really been working together well since the crisis.

Terrific first issue! I'd put it up there with my other favorite first issue of The New Outsiders... but then you wrote that one too. Seriously, great stuff here. The villian is one of my favorites and I nice way to kick off the series. Their first Chair-person is a perfect idea, and I know one person around here is going to be happy. And who is that in Ivy Town? hmmm... All in all, Dave, excellent job. Your writing is still in my top ten list!

Great job, and an excellent choice for the first chairman, especially since that hero is not the obvious choice. I'm glad he's getting his due respect.
I like that the story focuses as much on characterizations and interactions as it does on the wham-bang action. Each character got his/her moment to show how he/she behaves and operates.
Must be a pretty powerful villain that can do that to the Justice League. Bravo to a fine first issue.

Out of the gate and running full-steam! I loved it. You're making me care about characters I don't normally follow, and that's great!

Hey guys!
This rocked! Oh, boy! Professor Ivo and Amazo! This is going to rock! Will he be based on the JLU version or the classic comic version with the pointy ears, red skullcap, and green girdle?
And as for Doctor Light, I think it'd be interesting to combine the two incarnations into a man who seems like an idiot, but has a disturbed dark side if he's pushed too far. Kinda like Paul Dini combined the goofy and sadistic incarnations of the Joker for BTAS.

I guess it was pretty obvious that Amazo is the "secret" villain of the first arc, huh ? I wanted to show enough of the fights so the reader could see how the League went down, but make it ambiguous enough to keep him/her guessing. Tough to do with such sharp folks reading! But if it's Starro that you are looking for, check out our Elseworlds imprint this week, for the excellent, illustrated JLA: Total Control series debut, written and drawn by ArtTeach! As for Dr. Light--- I always think that character should be played a little campy, but with a menacing, Vincent Price-esque twist! I have no plans to us him, so we'll have to see how another writer will present him!

It's true, my irrational hatred for the Atom is well-documented, but the cat is out of the bag. Charlie was privvy to the inside-joke, and was a good sport for playing along! It was fun to write that opening scene, though, chortling and imagining Ray Palmer as an embittered, inadequete little man... Glad you liked the issue, Charlie!

Thanks for bringing this up, Chris. I wanted to establish that the League has been around for a while, and to add a little depth to the background. This is a team that has already had an opportunity to gel and clash and to overcome obstacles. I think part of the appeal of the League is the camraderie, and I wanted to show that first and foremost right out of the gate (none of that deconstructionist, disassembled melodramatic angst---- well, at least not at first)!

And I think that while Aquaman is a controversial choice for Chairman, I don't think an unwise one. This was actually decided a long time ago; he may be an outsider on the surface world, but Arthur is the monarch of a sovereign realm, and a born leader. He's led armies. He's well-respected by the other heroes, and a citizen of the world (as opposed to Superman, who is as American as apple-pie), giving us that international feel for the League. BTW, Wonder Woman was a close second as Chairperson (for many of the same reasons).

You want to make sure every member gets a good scene (they're like actors, wanting a bigger role in every issue), but at the same time tell a coherent story that doesn't become tedious. Some issues may focus more on some characters than others, but the writer has to be careful not to forget who he's dealing with, either! I actually forget the Martian Manhunter in the conference room scene, and had to go back and write him in after the fact! I promise to make it up to him next issue!

Glad you liked it, UDC! I guess it was pretty obvious that Amazo is the "secret" villain of the first arc, huh ? Uhmm...... I don't know how to say this but... When I finished reading this issue, I was still wondering who was the "secret enemy", and that lasted until I entered here. And I was still wondering who the Ivy guy was. Well, besides that, I liked the issue. It has become one of the best I've read in the site. Choosing Aquaman as chairman was great. Well, I can't really say how great it was in english. Time really well spent.

I just know my villains. 1) The cover shows him with green pants. 2) The title has to do with "The Quest for Immortality", which was Ivo's thing and why he made Amazo. 3) He matches all the Leagues powers (Flash's speed, Aquaman's fish telepathy, etc.) 4) He's a classic League villain. Still, good job with the issue.

The first thing I thought of when I began to read this story was:
"Damn this is a smart story delivered by a smart guy who also is a damn good writer!"
I shouldn't be surprised considering who wrote it. You set the standard high over a year ago and continue to do so in this, the ultimate team book in the DC2 universe! You
There are so many things this title HAS to be to succeed in my eyes and you nailed them all in this issue.
You kept every character in character with every action they took and word they spoke. You showed that they are all characters that can hold a story all by themselves but together they are something special. You gave them a menace that is truly worthy of their collective attention. You also gave plenty of reasons to come back next month and see what happens next!
Thank you David!

Wow. I can't remember the last good JLA comic I read. I think it was one of the Grant Morrisson issues with Prometheus... This one is at least as good. I'll check out the next issue definitely.

Can we make up a six-star rating for just this issue? No? Well, screw it, you're getting one anyways: ******
I don't know my JLA villains, but I could kind of tell it was Amazo just from the power-theft. That doesn't matter, though, because it still sold great, even without knowing for sure. Though we didn't get to see every beatdown in detail, you got a great sense of the jeopardy everybody was in.
Aquaman as chairperson may not seem like an obvious choice, but David has some good points. Myself, I liked it because it gives Arthur another function outside of his normal area, namely water -- on land, he tends to turn a mite useless. There's a joke from an old show called "The State" where the JLA goes to fight somebody, and as they're divvying up responsibilites, someone says, "And Aquaman...you go talk to some fish!" and all the heroes die laughing. As the head of the League, they won't be laughing now.
Ready for #2 now, sir! ;D

Thanks, gals and guys! I had a lot of fun writing this issue, particularly the Aquaman scenes. I am committed to making him not only an integral member (and leader!) of the team, but to remaining true to KSM's brilliant portrayal of the King of the Seven Seas!
That being said, every member of the League is on the team for a reason, which I hope to bring out in future issues.
Glad everyone is enjoying this--- and thanks for the kind words!

David, simply put, I loved it!
Hal was spot on, and I see that he and I share similar tastes (that made me laugh outloud!)! Very clever! He is written in the same manner that Wally was written in the JL & JLU cartoons: Humorous, but not a buffoon. And he does like the ladies...
I like the fact that you stuck with Aquman as the Chairman, as well as the title of 'Chairman'. A great homage to the JSA. This was the right mix of mystery, action and humor.
5 stars indeed!

Well I'm very much behind since I'm a new member but I'll leave my feedback anyway. This was a nice little story that reminded me of the "Year One" stuff that DC was putting out a while back. I thought the characters seemed very Silver Age like to me here which is good for me since I'm a huge Silver Age fan. This seems like it could be a fun book to stick to. I also liked the cover. Some good art.

Well I'm very much behind since I'm a new member but I'll leave my feedback anyway. Welcome, Shadow! It's never too late to leave feedback, and it's always appreciated, especially on back-issues. Me too! In fact, the Silver Age was always our guide in the early days of the DC2. Glad you liked it! I am particularly proud of this issue, for a number of reasons, so thanks for the kind words. For a look at the epic origin of the Justice League, you should check out our first continuity-wide crossover "Crisis: The Apokolips Imperative!" here! It's one hell of an epic!
