They all turned to the end of the table at Batman, who continued to stare straight ahead.
“No,” he replied coldly.
For this line alone, you win. You win my readership right there.
Whilst the writing was a bit stiff, and by no means your strongest Brian (thought we both talked about it), it still outshines some of the writers on this site. We get emotion, action and £%$£^%£ Despero!
DESPERO!
I was surprised at the sudden deaths of the Justice League (well written BTW, even though I had to reread the "death" of Batman) but then yeah, Martian Manhunter (my favourite Leaguer) saved the day... And now... I'm assuming... DEATHMATCH!
Five stars dude. Five great big massive stars.

I have never seen Despero written with such chilling intelligence.
The whole Alan Scott sequence was nice too.
Wonder what's up with Aquaman?
The whole Adam Strange and Hawkman on the same side thing was painfully ironic, given the Rann-Thanagar war over in the "official" DC. Once again, DC2 shows how to do it right.

“No,” he replied coldly. That was soooooooooooooooo funny. It was a good read. 4 stars from me. Great cover, Adam. I agree on both counts. And I loved seeing Despero. I'm an old-school man, and I love old-school villains. It was great seeing Despero in action. That is what Despero should be doing. You can't out-power him. You have to manipulate him. Despero: (hitting Superman with his own fist) Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself! Stop hitting yourself! Ah, you "Justice League" are a bunch of paaaan-SIES! Hey, Batman! (picks up Batman in a chokehold)
Batman: Guh...
Despero: What'd the five fingers say to the face?
Batman: Gak...
Despero: SLAP! (Pimpslaps Batman) Ha ha! I'm Despero, beyotch! ;D Sorry, I just always wanted Despero to do that. Again, this was a great issue. Alan Scott cameo, Hawkman, Adam Strange, Despero, outer space fights! What's not to love? Oh, and by the way, in the comics, Ray Palmer and Katar Hol worked a lot together and became friends. are you going to do that here too?

Great job, Brian! Well worth the wait. I think you have really nailed what is most imortant in any team book: the chemistry between the characters!
I love how Wonder Woman just naturally assumed control in Aquaman's inexplicable absence (what swum up his butt?), and how J'onn just held the team together...! I can't wait til next issue and the title fight between those two bruisers!
On a personal note, I thought you handled Katar Hol very well--- actually, you made him quite the bad@$$! Love the addition of the Nth Mace! And I agree with l1701e: I'd love to see some chemistry between Katar and Ray.
Adam, that cover was probably your best effort yet--- and that is saying some! This reminded me of something from the 80's-era (Perez-drawn) League, and it was a perfect accompaniment to Brian's classic storytelling! And your redesign of Hawkman is fantastic.
Well done guys! This was a first-class issue, all around!

I want to thank everyone who has commented. I honestly didn't expect this to go over. It really didn't go over with me at all. If I get the chance, yes, there will be some male bonding between Ray and Katar Hol. Depending of course on what happens to Katar by the end of this story. I'm glad everyone liked the bit with Batman. It was the first thing I wrote and sent it to David who said to keep it, so I did. Huge applause to Adam for an awesome cover! A very heart felt thank you to Mark (who was most patient with me on this first part), David (who was a huge encouragement), and Scott (who gave me some wonderful thoughts and idea's when it came to Hal and Katar and all the space stuff). That's what is so terrific about this site. It's not one person, it's the entire team. Thank you guys. I do promise to do better in the next issue.

Thanks as always for the kind words everyone. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the covers are great because the stories behind them rock so damn hard. Keep coming up with great stories and I'll keep bringing my A-Game to the flagship title.

Thanks for your kind words, sir! I'm very much looking forward to next issue's cover. I've got a feeling it's going to be explosive! And to answer a question that I inadvertently skipped over about our aquatic hero. What is up with Aquaman? Well keep your eyes focused on his title, because what is coming down the pike soon is going to turn big... really big!

Great issue. I like what you are doing with Hawkman. Can't wait to see that MM vs Despero fight.

Good stuff. Like everybody else, I think the best part was when the rest of the League automatically assumed that Bats had a spaceship stashed somewhere. I'm sure he'll rectify that after this mission. ;D Awkward moment: Katar finding out that his daddy had another wife on Earth. I take it Shiera must have stayed at home when Carter made that particular trip?

Nope, Shiera was there too, believe it or not! Someday soon I will tell the tale of the Golden Age Hawks' adventure on Thanagar. It was originally slated for The Immortal Legend of Hawkman #s 8-10, but I think I may do it as a mini early next year... And " Another wife...?" Who said Carter married Katar's mother...? ;D

The JLA has finally returned. This was like dancing with the stars but with no dancing and more ass kicking DC2 stars. And yes the Batman line was perfect! I guess I didn't see "the stiff writing "or how "this didn't go over"? What I saw was a very talented writer take on the hardest assignment in comics and make it work. Writing a team book is hard enough but the JLA big guns has to be the worst and the best writing gig there is and you my friend rose to the challenge and delivered! I can't wait to see the grudge match next month and find out where the rest of the League is. Combine this with a kick ass cover from Adam and it was an easy 5 star issue!

Great issue and once again J'onn proves why he is so damn awesome! What an issue...although I felt the gap between the JLA being there and Strange suddenly realising they were gone was a little quick and in other places to like the sudden arrival of strange could have been bigged up a little more however it was a wicked issue and the JLA Smackdown was cool.
