This was intense. Every single word gripped me, and the battle between Aquaman and Superman was cool too, though I was expecting it to last longer. I just thought that any man who can take a straight punch from the Man of Steel would be able to last longer, especially in his home environment! The closing moments, as the tension was turned up to eleven, were some of the best scenes on the site, and I have to say, "I swear it on my parents graves" really struck out to me how big this whole event was. Brian, time and again over the past few months, you've really shown your strengths as a writer, even though your ongoing medical issues, and you never let me down! You never let the site down! This issue was superb, five stars, best issue of the week, all that!
The IXXE is here.
We should all be afraid.

I have my reservation on this storyline that is the IXXE. But I will hold onto them.
Good story. I'm just thinking of the aftermath already. This reminds me of what Marvel would do.
I will give this 5 stars.

thank you for the kind words, Charlie. This site, and all the people who work so hard on it, mean a great deal, so I do what I can and hope that it adds to the greatness that is DC2. Chief, I've never heard of this thing called "Marvel" , but I assure you that there are so many twists and turns, that I will be very shocked if you believe this ends up anything like those other guys.

My theory: Maxwell Lord is a Skrull.
That was definately a good story and an excellent way to kick off the Crisis on Infinite Places. Keep it up!
Also, I love the cover.

I agree with Charlie--- this issue ratcheted-up the dramatic tension to eleven!
From Aquaman's first appearance atop the whale, to Max Lord's ultimatums, to the League's battle with the armies of Atlantis... This issue never lets up!
Two years worth of storylines are finally coming together in this event, and I can't wait to see how this plays out! What caused Aquaman to go rogue? What is Max Lord's agenda? Who are the mysterious figure and shadowy people President Lord is talking to? How does King Faraday fit into all this? What are the "sleeper cells"?!? Will America really turn against the World's Greatest Heroes?
In all the crazy boffo superhero action going down in this issue, I think the most telling scene comes at the end with the old couple recalling the parallels to the rise of fascism... I don't think this was in the original preview draft that I read, and it hit me in the gut (like so much of this writer's work does), and announces: "This story is contemporary, relevant and will matter!"
This issue is the first brilliant opening shot of a story that will set the stage for the future of the DC2!
And what can I say about Adam Tupper's evocative cover? Beautifully drawn, it tells a story all it's own, and sets the perfect mood. And what would a summer event be without a veritable art explosion from Tupps?
Five stars all around, gentleman! Take a bow!
(Also, for what it's worth, I continue to enjoy Brian's interpretation of Hawkman. Katar had some of the best moments in this issue!)

What is this Skrull you speak of? Thank you for reading and glad you liked our prologue. Many of the staff (artists and writers a like, have put a lot of time and effort into this and we hope to give everyone some huge summer fun!)

Awesome story. I especially liked all your hints on other stories on the site. Definately a must read! 5 Stars!!! Thanks Riz! I've been doing my best to keep in contact with the writers of other series, just to keep everything as tight as we can. Glad you liked it. And speaking of Riz, folks, this very kind gentleman has drawn the covers for each and every issue of the Mini series, and wait til you see them! They're frickin' awesome!

From Aquaman's first appearance atop the whale, to Max Lord's ultimatums, to the League's battle with the armies of Atlantis... This issue never lets up! I actually did enjoy opening with Arthur on the whale. It was one of my favorite scenes. And part of my goal was to keep it moving like a roller coaster, so I hope that came across. Great questions, Dave! Wish I had an answer for you, but I'm clueless. I'm honestly not sure when I put that scene in, but I did feel that it was important to show that any and all governments can be just a few steps away from repeating one of histories most horrific moments. He sis an awesome job, didn't he! I can't wait to see how he does with this explosive conclusion of this tale in JL Annual #1! Thank you very much for those kind words. Let the Crisis begin!

Wow... just... wow.
What a great issue! This is going to be one Hell of an adventure!
Hal: "This is going to go over like a fart in church." Funny! Is it coincidense that I say that to people all the time?
The final moment was heart wrenching... my wife's family had people that lived, and died, through those horrors. Really tugged on the heart strings there.
Is it wrong that everytime I read Lord's speeches I imagined George W. Bush speaking?
FIVE FREAKING STARS! Everyone drop what your doing and read this NOW! Or I'll send a Sinestro after you!

I am glad I haven't caught any of what's going to happen this Crisis...because to read this was phenomenal!
As Charlie said, I expect Aquaman to take Superman on further...being that it as his home turf and he is supposed to be able to endure the effects of the deepest undersea pressures and the most extreme undersea temperatures...but aside from that, it was good to see that he was capable of going blow for blow with the man of steel himself!
Does anyone smell "conspiracy"? Because I think I smell a load of it with Maxwell Lord...who is that mysterious figure he spoke to? I want to know more!
JL Versus A can't get here soon enough! Great job and a full five stars!

Wow... just... wow. What a great issue! This is going to be one Hell of an adventure! Thank you Scott. I hope it is an adventure that everyone enjoys, I know we've all put a lot of time into this cool event. That's funny, cause I say that all the time as well. I guess, we're a lot more like Hal then either of us realized. Like I said, I think there are times when this world, or even this country, can easily be on the brink of repeating that horrible time in history. I have several responses to that one, but I keep a lot of that stuff to myself. However, see my comment above. You all might want to listen to him, that's one dude I wouldn't want breaking through the wall of my house.

I always enjoy anybody going toe to toe with Superman.
The part I don't understand is how Arthur shook off...whatever it was. But I'm sure it will be explained in time!
And I totally agree with the political resonance. We're ALWAYS one step away....*stops himself from making a speech.* Anyway, yes, well done!

Personally, I think the main reason why Aquaman is so peeved is simply that his book hasn't had any new issues since the LAST crisis. ;D Aquaman:*raising his trident in the air* UPDATE MY BOOK, DAMMIT!
Maxwell Lord: He's gonna invade!
Superman: He just wants a new issue.
Batman: Will somebody write a new issue so he'll shut up?!Great issue! I love the Justice League book here, just as much as the DC one. Are you guys going to do a good-old fashioned JLA/JSA team-up? Please?

Please? Have no fear, good sir, there are rumblings that Aquaman may soon be up and running again... if he survives. You know how these Crisis' can be with heroes. Sometimes they just don't all make it. (Yeah, Barry, I'm looking at you.) I'm glad your enjoying this book as much as Dc's. That's quite a compliment. As for a JL/JSA team-up? Hmmm... it does sound like a good idea, doesn't it.

Aw jeez, the spit's gonna hit the fan here... I knew this was gonna be big, but I don't think I realized HOW big until I read this. 5 stars, for sure! I just wanna see Jeb Stuart get in the Haunted Tank one last time...and blow Lord's freakin' head off! ;D

It was great to be able to finally sit down and read this issue just for the story.
First off, the cover was just perfect! Adam really came through with immediately capturing the mood of this story in a single image!
This issue reminded me of how freaking cool Aquaman is and how much he has been missed here in the DC2. My only complaint or regret is that Aquaman doesn’t have a bigger role in the main story that follows this.
And though this was the unofficial opening act of the big summer crossover and everything was ‘big blockbuster’, it was the small things in this issue that really made it work for me:
The line from Flash about not being there sooner.
The line from Atom about tying bells on everyone’s neck.
Max asking who Hawkman was.
The chilling scene from the couple in Gotham.
And of course the final line from the Atom at the end.
Just a few examples that show how talented of a writer Brian is. He never loses focus and allows drives the story forward. But he is always aware of what characters are in the scene and makes sure they always ring true. Nothing is ever forced or is there to fluff an issue. He never tries to show off as a writer but instead takes control and maintains a balance that always rewards the reader.
5 well deserved stars my friend.

Thank you John for those very kind words. I try my best to make sure every voice is heard. I have one more issue after the annual and then I'll be stepping down with this title. I do have to say that as fun as it has been, writing for the premier group it isn't easy. At least not for me. So, it's kind of you to say those nice things.
