Literal kicking... not much of that. Figurative kicking... keep reading! There ARE fight scenes coming, they just involve other people. Thanks for the feedback!

Good issue, but nothing really stood out for me this time. I do like that Morgenstern (possibly related to a famous Florinese author? ;D ) seems to genuinely want to help Bruce. The first session will be interesting, I'm sure.

Never have I seen someone pack in SO many continuity references.....yet have it NOT disrupt the flow of the story.
Tim seems very different.....but then, Alfred being killed would do that to him.....but even so, I gotta say him refusing to see Bruce hits a sour note. Given how and why he got the job in the first place....just won't wash. On the other hand, the idea of him walking away....yeah, I can see that. Of coruse, in the regular DCU, his character has wandered so far from it's original base that it's not funny.
Oh God, poor Huntress....hope that's Scarecrow's fear gas in her head.
Can I officially hate Calculator now?

Never have I seen someone pack in SO many continuity references.....yet have it NOT disrupt the flow of the story. Thanks! Continuity is my safety net... Tim's been going through a lot of loss and betrayal since he met Bruce. And, sadly, quite a bit of it has come at Bruce's hands. I was thinking about Bruce Wayne, Murderer, where Tim was the one most ready to believe that Bruce was guilty. And the whole Spoiler issue... let's just say he doesn't have the same sort of hero-worship for Bruce he did at 13. Tune in next month and see! Sure, knock yourself out! Thanks for reading!

And the whole Spoiler issue... let's just say he doesn't have the same sort of hero-worship for Bruce he did at 13. Like I said, the character's been way off base for some time. I think things passed the point of no return when they finally let Stephanie be his girlfriend....then suddenly had her be pregnant from a previous relationship.

For me it was when Bruce 'outed' him.

AGRH! Cliffhanger! Darn you, Ellen! Besides that, great issue. And I was right, that was an interesting first session. I'm surprised you didn't have Bruce thinking (but not speaking aloud) the crossword answers when the shrink asked for them. ;D

AGRH! Cliffhanger! Darn you, Ellen! Okay, okay. Alternate non-cliffhangery ending: "Master Bruce! Do wake up, Sir!" "Unh! Alfred... Alfred, you won't believe the nightmare I was having!" The End. Happy? Thanks! Wait'll session 2... Well, Bruce was a little bit taken aback this time out. But if you're curious... I got them by opening the Oxford Paperback Dictionary to random pages: Prognostic. Stonechat.

Everything that I've come to expect, and more. Great use of the birds and Huntress especially. Have to admit that my favorite part was Bruce's first session as well. I have a feeling that Alex is going to end up doing something that no one else has been able to do yet.
And what about Cobblepot. Between you, Grant's wonderful story, and what's going on in the regular Bat titles, I'd have to say that DC2's second year may turn out to be the year of the Penguin!
As always, you were consumate with every sentence. Kudo's and I await the next wonderful installment. Great job, Ellen!

Just read the first issue. I thought it was great, especially the writing of Bruce at the end. Loved his imagined replies to Arkham.

It was a well written chapter, especially the whole Catwoman-Huntress-Robin bit at the beginning.
But what I'm most reminded of is that pretty much all of these characters already HAVE crossed the line. Tim IS Batman junior. Huntress DID order the death of that mafia don. And Bruce is where he is for a reason....not to mention the mindjobs on Tim and Dick both that were referenced. Dick was long ago screwed over in Nightwing itself. And we all know Catwoman's drill.
Where did the real heroes go? Away, far away. Long ago. Sigh.
That said, Catwoman and Dick came off best this issue. Dick really is a good Batman, without becoming Batman like Tim is. Ironic, ain't it.
And whatever is happening to Barbara, anyway.....

It was a well written chapter, especially the whole Catwoman-Huntress-Robin bit at the beginning. Thanks... but I'm sensing a 'but'. ...Here we go! Yep we do. But Dick pulled himself together back in Locked Inside the Facade. Tim may be Batman jr, but he knows where Batman sr is right now, and that doesn't exactly imbue him with good spirits. In this 'verse, Hush, not CW killed Black Mask. Huntress' time in BoP has altered her perspective a bit. She no longer considers killing a viable option in general. That being said, she knows that Scarecrow was violating her mind. Under that circumstance, I think a bit of a relapse is understandable. There are reasons why Bruce is where he is... it's just that the main one is that Bruce believes that it's where he deserves to be. He's more mature than Tim. It shows. Well, right now, she's in Ivytown getting Cass some help. Oh and there's a cyber-stalker paying good money to find out who she is and where she lives... Thanks for reading! See you in April!

Just read the second issue. One of the best things I've read here. Loved Barbara's "Superman calls me" line, and, just when I thought Barbara's scene was going to be the highlight of the issue, you easily topped it with the Bruce/Dick scene which I found really moving.
Great cover, too.

Just read the second issue. One of the best things I've read here. Blush! Thanks! Things are going to change for Bruce fairly soon. Barbara's going to have her own problems in fairly short order. Glad you're enjoying!

It just keeps getting better and better. Every characters voice is distinct and dead on.
but I'm really loving the stuff with Bruce and Alex

In my quest to catch up, I've read issues 3 and 4 and enjoyed them. Really liked the school scene with Helena in issue 4. Still scratching my head over Alex's second crossword clue in #4 (but I just spotted it earlier on in the letter page - thanks).

The bit with Nightwing threw me at first....until the explanation. The whole Huntress-Scarecrow thing was brilliantly done.
And here I thought Bruce would be mad at Dick for trying to help him. Doesn't seem bothered by Oracle watching, though.
Is Firefly just doing his own thing, or is that part of Calculator's plan?
The Dick/Arkham , Comissioner Gordon/Bruce, and Penguin sequences were also well done.

The bit with Nightwing threw me at first....until the explanation. The whole Huntress-Scarecrow thing was brilliantly done. Thanks! It seemed as good a place as any to establish that Dick sometimes has to go out as NW just because he got 'outed' once people wondered whatever happened to that circus kid Bruce took in... and if Bruce was Batman... By making it seem like NW and Batman are operating, it throws people off. Now if only Gail Simone doesn't kill me... I found out after I wrote the chapter that "Cody" is her real son's name... He's starting to accept that his family is doing more than just visiting to keep his spirits up. And as much as he might want to be left alone, the fact of the matter is that he doesn't enjoy being slapped around or restrained. And he's just as glad he isn't being so treated. Wait and see Glad you're enjoying!

Yay, Bruce is reaching out! Don't know where this will lead, but at least he's trying. This may be nothing, but I thought I'd mention: the name of the doctor helping out Cass with her alphabet skills is Dr. MeLeod. If I recall, didn't artist Bob MeLeod just put out a children's book called "The Superhero Alphabet"?

[Moment of truth] When I need to name an OC, I will do one of the following: 1) Use a character that's been in my head for decades. (On ff.net there's a WIP called Psionverse. Tabitha's a prime example. So's the rest of her family.) 2) Take a name indicative of the ethnic background I envision for my character, occasionally with the help of Google. I try to avoid John Smiths and Mary Changs. (Ram Prasad Divakaruni). If it's a Jewish character, I've got 100s of books on Judaism and Jewish philosophy. I'll look at the spines and grab an author's surname. (Alex Morgenstern). 3) Look at DC Creative talent, past and present. Dan (DiDio) Haney is not one of my favorite characters. Dick doesn't like him much either. (Ted) McKeever's "art" on the Batman/Nightwing Oneshot Bloodborne was, IMO, a special kind of bad. Dr. McKeever is the shrink who slapped Bruce around. And then there are characters whose surnames I pulled from the credits in my DC Archives, or Silver Age reprints. Bob McLeod is a Batman artist... But you're right, too! It's the same guy and I seriously had NO idea! [/moment of truth] See ya in May!
