The Bat stood above the crowds basking in the glory of their heroes. He tried not to notice the clean streets, the smiles below him, the fact that he had prowled the rooftops for hours before the event and had yet to encounter one act of crime. Maybe Metropolis was the City of Tommorow, but it was not his city. "Metropolis' criminals look down from tall towers not dark alleys," the Dark Knight thought as he turned his ear piece to the local news transmission and watched his allies wave to the crowds. It’s a beautiful day Corkie. That it is Grant. All of Metropolis has shown up for this official appreciation day of the Justice League, sponsored by Buzz Cola and the Mayor’s office of special events. Yes, Corkie this newly formed group in the mold of the Justice Society has already gathered quite a following. It is said they have replaced Brad, Angelia, and Bennifer as the buzzwords online and America is clamoring for anything about these heroes. Noticeably absent on the float designed after their downtown metropolis headquarters is the Batman. The Justice League will neither confirm nor deny his membership or even existence. Well with rumors of being 9 feet tall with batwings he probably saved all the children in the crowd years of therapy by staying home. What would bat call home, Grant? A Belfry? Oh Corkie, Let’s go down to Cat Grant for reaction from the man on the street, Cat.

Too much time spent in the light of Metropolis. Too much time spent saving the world. Need to return to saving people. Good to return to the darkness. Good to be Home. The signal, it’s been inactive for months. The Mayor demanded it decommissioned the day he signed my arrest warrant. Something is wrong. Gordon and his men look as confused as I am.

If they did not activate the symbol, who did? Who could break into Police Headquarters, assemble the symbol, and escape without notice... It feels like a flutter in the air and a tingle of electricity. The tingle spreads as nanites replicate, flooding the Bats bloodstream, crossing over into his nervous system, spreading over the pathways of his mind. He feels a calmness and order fill his thoughts. Contact Mr. Luthor, We are online with the Bat. Good begin the operation. Send the delivery system to his next subject.

"I don’t get it Lieutenant, how could someone break in, remove the parts, and assemble them in the blink of an eye. The controls are heat fused sir, but we could just cut the power." Lieutenant Gordon looked out into the night, searching rooftops for a sign of his secret ally. "Don’t, I want to know who and why and there is one man who can help give us those answers." "The Commish says shoot on sight sir." "Keep your guns hostered. He deserves more respect than that." A dull thud announces his arrival. He strikes so fast, buy the time I turn around, it is over. “That wasn’t necessary Batman. I told the men to stand down.” "Batman, Batman" "Bruce, what is wrong?" I fumble for my gun knowing I will be too late. "Bruce!"
