Very good first issue. Dialogue flowed nicely and I like the realistic approach to the relationship. A lot of nice little hints of what the world is like that I hope to read the back story of, soon.
A great beginning, and a really beautiful cover, I might add. I shall return for issue #2

There's a real story how the cover came down. Mike Kaley is a co-worker of mine and I saw him drawing some alien like Predator or something.. and I asked him to do a couple drawings of her. Well it took him several months to do it. I finally got the drawings from him back in March, but my team had been moved to another city that was a half hour away. So the only we we could communicate was by instant messenger or email. He told me he had it done and was ready for the pick-up. (Get the French Connection theme?) Anyway, I went to pick it up and was amazed, it's more like a Manga drawing, but I loved it. Not normally art I go for, but I can definitely see the appeal. We've since moved back to where Mike is... but he was in some sort of car accident so he's recovering now. I haven't had a chance to ask him about DC2 again because I asked him if he'd be interested in drawing for us... I think he might, but I'll need to ask him again. Thanks for the comments Brian. I've tried to take a departure from my own 'formula' to my writing.. and this is a different approach for me. I am glad you did like it.

First of all I would like to apologize to Zirron. Between new computers, power failures, and the fact that I don't know how to put up a board as opposed to just a new issue on an existing one, this issue was pushed back until Mark had to put it up.
Now then. I didn't expect the story to be in movie continuity, or Batman to be taken out so easily. But these things being said, it was a dramatic, gripping story and I look forward to where it goes from here!

Thought it was an okay issue, which got more interesting towards the end with the introduction of the bad guys. Not totally convinced by Kate's origin, which didn't quite work for me (not sure if it's original on your part or taken from the comic books) and was kind of sad that you mentioned the big twist in the solicit, since the story might have been more effective with it as a surprise, although I was fine with the way Batman was taken out (and might have applauded it if a similar thing hadn't been done before in Batman: Black and White). Anyway, looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I guess it shows too much. I wanted to go in a new direction, but when 52 came out, I was really awed by the character and the potential.... Anyway, I hope that you like what's coming... should be a fun ride.

Batman was never going to be the center piece for the beginning, but some elements to who he was will looked at later on... Anyway, thank you for the review. It's helpful to know what was strong and what was weak.

You're killing off Batman in this issue but you won't let me kill himm off in mine?

To be honest, it's your editor's prerogative. If you read the feedback as well, you'll note that the editor-- not the writer, the editor, who is your editor as well-- didn't know until the issue was in his hands that the series would a) be set in movie continuity, and b) feature the death of Batman.
The Elseworlds Editor's rule of taking Death out of the equation (was that a thinly veiled plug for Deux Ex Machina? Sounds like ;D ) is also in his prerogative as Elseworlds Editor. It's his call. It challenges writers into coming up with something other than shock value or easy story telling. Because honestly, look at the biggest events of the past decade, and tell me what hasn't featured the death of a major character as a way to draw the reader in, or create buzz.
Arcalian has said you can't kill Batman. If you're not happy, no one's going to make you write a series you don't want to write. But it's Arcalian's prerogative.

Wow, I knew I said prerogative a lot just then, but that post was simply chockablock!!

Oh yeah sure, blame it all on Arcalian. ;D
I'll shoot it to you straight, Twoface222. There are a lot of stories that come out here by some really talented folks. So you are going to have to bring something pretty strong to measure up and hope to grab an audience here. These guys aren't amateurs. They've been doing this every single week for over four years. They know what they are talking about. And if you show up and your best pitch is pretty much saying something to the effect of "I really like this character, and I'll kill off the main character just to give the character I like more prominence"... well, that's in like the top five rules on how NOT to start a fan fiction.
So if you have a worthwhile idea that other people might enjoy as well, you'll need to work up a really strong pitch and have at least a partial story to back it up at this point. Otherwise, maybe hang around here and catch a few pointers from these guys, because when it comes to fan fics you aren't going to find any better group of people online. That's a guarantee.

Batman was never meant to be dead in this series, Two Face. You'll read about that in the later issues.
At least back when I was writing it.
