Great work, Ellen! I'm already liking this better than RIP. I think my favorite scene was when Bruce told Dinah "Good. I… if I was married to you, I think I'd want to remember." lol! again, great work! 4 stars!

LOL! I think most straight men would want to remember being married to a blonde blue-eyed bombshell, myself. Glad you're enjoying!

Yeah, that bit about being married to Dinah is something I'd wanna remember too!
Your second quote in your sig is VERY true. *shudder*

Glad you liked the line!

great job here, Ellen. This, I get! This, I like!
Why you haven't been grabbed by DC yet is beyond me. And that cover is amazing. Great job, Roy!

*blush* Thank you Brian! This fic WAS a case of seeing a huge pile of lemons and thinking "well... if I can get a pitcher, and sugar, and water..."
And letting Roy express some of my reservations with canon... next chapter. [/tease]
Thanks for reading!

Saw this ages ago, and loved it then. So much intrigue, and such a departure from the DCU!proper! Now, I seem to be one of the few on this site to have actually enjoyed RIP, but that doesn't stop me from appreciating the intricacies of this piece. RIP was insane, Batman creating back-up identities (I love that stuff, so sue me ), whilst this seems to be the start of a sane story, which should be awesome unto itself! Anyways, I'm enjoying the direction, I can't wait for the second installment (I might go explore the internet for it later) and that cover is one Hell of a piece. God love Roy Flinchum.

This usse was pretty good. I liked that talk about the "map" of the city. It reminded me of when Bruce went crazy and started seeing Gotham as a grid. This fic is very fan wish-fufillment stuff. I think we all kind of forget that at the end of the day, most of us are fanfiction writers. This is fanfic gold.
My main complaint would have to be that they picked such lame help for such a desperate situation. I mean, Black Canary is tough, but I don't know if she can handle Bruce's world. Same for Roy. Especially since we know the Black Glove like drugging up their enemies. *gasp*!
My main complaint is that Bruce isn't acting crazy enough. Having him and Dinah work together like this is cool and all, but I want to see how she reacts when he starts talking to Bat-Mite....
Overall, very nice prose with few complaints.

Well... your comment about fan wish-fulfillment? My wish is to keep Bat-Mite out of the story. And I fulfilled it. Sorry. He's been used in DC2 Proper, and quite well... but I just don't care for that concept. As for the help she sent, keep in mind that they weren't sent initially to take out the Black Glove organization--they were sent to find out what was up with Bruce and secure the manor and cave. At this point, Barbara didn't know what state Bruce was in, but she did know that if she was overreacting, he would be less than thrilled to have the JLA mucking around in HIS city. Glad you're enjoying!

well, Ellen, I think Black Canary is the perfect choice for this mission.... and, despite what was said above, I'd argue that she can TOTALLY handle Bruce's world just as well as Babs or Huntress.... keep up the good work!

How many chapters will this story have?

9 and an epilogue. Not sure yet if the epilogue will stand alone or be tacked on to the end of #9
Edit: Ten installments. I just finished it this week. Ten includes an epilogue.

As usual Ellen, you put the fun and enjoyment in a story that totally sucked in DC proper. (at least for me) The thing that I find the most interesting is that no matter how confused Bruce is, how much he doesn't remember, you keep his core character the same. It's those kind of things that keep me coming back.
Excellent issue as always.

*blush* Thanks! I do have to admit that the Bruce's detective skills were very much in evidence in Morrison's work too... I just built.

Good stuff here again. The "apology fight" was especially well scripted. I stopped reading Batman a good while ago, so I have no idea who Jezebel is, either. Though even by DC Bad Girl nomenclature, the name is a bit over the top.

Well, while I'm sure "Wonkipedia" has more detail on Bruce's latest flame with the Bond-Girl name , here are the details you need going in. 1) Jezebel Jet is the leader of an unnamed African country. Her father died in a coup. She's also a former supermodel. 2) While they were out on a date, terrorists attempted to kidnap her and (I think, Bruce, too). He got away long enough to change clothes but she figured out who he was from something he said during the fight. 3) The relationship intensified fairly quickly. 4) It was Jezebel who said "Zur-en-ahrr", the first time. The word was evident in some graffiti, which he was analysing, but he was somehow unable to read it. When she expressed surprise that he couldn't see the word and spoke it aloud to him, he collapsed. The next time we saw him in the comic, he was lying in the street without the benefit of his memories. Glad you liked the fight scene! I had expert help.

The fight scene was exceptionally well written, but I would think that Dinah is more than able to handle Batman's world. Especially if we're talking DC proper. Black Canary has come a loooong way from her early days, and her training (if I may be cliche') is almost complete.
Another great, wish fulfilling issue, Ellen. I'm to the point where I'd almost be willing to sell my soul to get you into DC and on the Batman books. You're take of the Bat-Universe is really unparalleled and one that makes each character believable, enjoyable, and leaves me with a huge yearning for more.
Keep up the great work.
And what an awesome cover by Roy!

Dinah is definitely tougher than she used to be, but I still think that when they're both at their best, she's unlikely to beat Bruce without using the Cry. However, when one is NOT at 100% and the other is pulling punches... we get a much more even fight.
I'm glad you're enjoying it so much! (blush) Hope you still are in a couple of chapters where some less-popular folks turn up...

Another well done issue and let me comment first on another brilliant cover by Roy. His Salem covers have been some of his best work ever... and that is saying a lot!
I'm getting a bit nervous for Nightwing at this point. Got a bad feeling...
Though Dinah's role as leader really shines here.
As always, every word had me mesmerized. You have a fan for life!

*Blush* 100% Agreed on both points! You mean because the reinforcements are elsewhere, Batman's down, and he's being restrained and facing neurotoxin? Oh ye of little faith... She leads the Justice League. (And at the time that this was written, there wasn't nearly as much infighting in canon as there has been recently.) She wouldn't have been endorsed so heavily by the Big Three if she weren'd up to it. *Blush again* Glad you enjoyed!
