Oh, the highlight of this issue had to be the family reveal for Syl, it was pitch perfect and made me laugh throughout. I sometimes forget that these people are old fashioned, and their values and norms ring true through the dialogue: "carrying on behind my back" one example of great word-work, Don! I'm enjoying the direction that you're taking with this book, a modern day equivalent of the Danger Trail it seems, and I'm glad I had a peak at some of the scenes before hand. Your dialogue flows smooth and the banter between Hayley, Syl and Pat was brilliant!
I'll be back next month!

I'm going to chime in here with what Charlie said about Syl and Pat. In an issue that was flawless, these scenes really popped out at me. I chuckled out loud at several lines, but the whole D&D bit was hilarious, especially since Sir Justin was in the middle of that!
I hope our captured lady survives this.
Awesome cover and great issue made for another extremely entertaining issue! I'll be back!

I'll third the idea that Pat in particular shined in this issue, both in humorous moments and in a great bit of emotion. Everything about the dragons has been neat so far, and I really love what you're doing with the Crimson Avenger plot, too. So much cool stuff that's going to come together fantasticaly, if I know your writing

I'll fourth on the Pat stuff. Best part of the issue, I think. I was kind of lost when you brought Haley in last issue, like there was some info missing, but you made it much clearer now (though I did have a brief notion of Pat robbing the cradle because I didn't know how old Merry was!).
Lots of little pieces coming together here, can't wait to see where it all leads!

Best issue of your run so far, Don! This is the one where eveything clicked for me, from Hayley shaking up Pat and Syl's retro-buddy-movie-type relationship, to Green Arrow's oh-so-right appearance to the totally bad-ass developments with the Crimson Avenger. The Nefarious Dragons are a worthy and interesting adversary--- but I am really digging the stuff with the Iron Cross!
And that cover is fun! Kinda getting an Infinity Inc-era Todd MacFarlane vibe there (not unnaturally, given the cast)!
Five stars!

Charlie, you're right. There's some similarity between Danger Trail and Seven Soldiers, and some stark differences. The family-centered feelings between the Soldiers is a key difference, and it's great to play up the generation gap between the veteran Soldiers and the newcomers. Haley's winning my heart as I write her, though I do like all these fellows. I'm glad the reveal and following interaction hit the mark. Loved putting the D&D reference for Justin, Brian, and it's fun to find things that make the old-timers scratch their heads, though it's tricky. It can't be done just to make them look like comic relief, but when it fits, it's so much fun to play with. Sam, Pat's always been a solid center to the team, in my mind. He's just the rational, reasonable, adult in a group of off-center, weird people, and that's my take on him here. He's got a lot to process, and his trying to do so will be a major part of the Soldiers' tale. Susan, Merry would have been about Syl's age, so there's a little over a decade between them. So yeah, not robbing the cradle really, but definitely enough factors to make them keep things on the Q.T. until they knew what it really was. Too bad you had to mess that up by chucking Ne Bu Lah at them, huh? David--Best issue of your run so far, Don! Thanks a lot, David. Glad it started to fall into place. I admit, i had a lot of new characters and old favorites to put into place, but this issue fell into place with the writing and I really felt it with the group as I wrote it. The Dragons are a great villain, and the Dark Cross seems to be a puppet in part of a larger plan, but never fear: the Soldiers AND the Dragons will regret treating them like that, now that someone's brought them back together. Take care Don
