I want to chime in and say that I owe more than can be repaid to Charlie on this one, as well as a great apology. While I did indeed write my share of the issue and we certainly plotted it together, most of the heavy lifting here was Charlie's as schoolwork and preparation for university applications have sapped the vast majority of my time. I'm hopeful that will not be the case for future issues, but with this one, credit has to go where it's due; and the lion's share of that must go to Charlie here!

A good first issue. I really liked the Baker family scenes.
What I didn't like so much was the "we are the core aof the JL" attitude at the end with their separate meetingroom where the others only may enter when they are told to. I know that is like in the JLU cartoon, but I was never a friend of that concept.
We'll see how it develops.

A good first issue. I really liked the Baker family scenes. I was really happy with how they turned out, glad you enjoyed them. What I didn't like so much was the "we are the core aof the JL" attitude at the end with their separate meetingroom where the others only may enter when they are told to. I know that is like in the JLU cartoon, but I was never a friend of that concept. I can understand completely. This issue went through so many versions before even reaching Mark, and then the concept changed after the first editing stage... that was one of the moments that stayed unchanged, and should have been modified some what, but-- but--! It will make more sense as the series continues, and we gain more and more new Leaguers. Kevin and I have big plans for the first two years of the title, and next issue the Big Seven are off the table pretty much completely and Animal Man, Doctor Light and Firestorm take centre stage. We'll see how it develops. 4 stars. Thanks for reading, Boris. Really do appreciate it. |

I was excited to see this issue as I haven't read the title in a while (nothing against the former writer, I plan to catch up soon!) but I have to confess I was mildly disappointed  . This issue was... well, boring  . There was nothing here that we haven't seen a hundred times before. Okay, the League had a period of "non-conventional" members for a while, and now a Big Seven-type roster is returning, with a few "intriguing" additions. And of course, we have the obligatory new HQ (which--- I'm sorry guys--- was the stupidest thing in the issue). Along the way, we get the wide-eyed golly-gee "Isn't Superman cool!" perspective of rookie Animal Man which while not unwarranted became somehow annoying. I'm sorry to be so negative on this--- I really wanted to like the issue. And there are flashes of promise: the fight with Godzilla was good (though how many times do we have to be reminded Dick is not Bruce, for crying out loud?), and I like Kimiyo Hoshi a whole lot better than Animal Man (at least in this issue). The mention of Phase 2 didn't really hold the dramatic value it was intended to, as it seems Aquaman and the other Star Chamberians are acting like jerks, as Riz was too polite to say. Again, I'm sorry to be so harsh. I'm a big fan of this creative team, both of whom are on the top of their game with recent work elsewhere, so I expected something that either kicked ass or gave me goosebumps with cool little dramatic moments, and I didn't get either . I will be back next issue, fellas, because I believe in you and I want to love this. On the bright side, the cover of seeing the League through Animal Man's eyes was awesome! Keep Rimmer on this title! |

Another question that I want to ask:
Will you mention Animal Man's work with his former team the Forgotten Heroes (which was established in one of the first Suicide Squad issues)? Because he seems to bee too much a rookie here imo.

Those issues of the Suicide Squad with the covers by Kevin Hill were some of my favourite way back when, so Buddy's tenure in the Forgotten Heroes is not... eurgh, it's not forgotten. It may be addressed down the line, but right now, there's nothing on the cards. And I was more trying to play up the fact that he's in awe of Superman-- not that he was a rookie. Sorry if that wasn't conveyed well |

Glad you liked Doctor Light, she was a late-- reaaaally late-- addition to the team, and her characterisation just flowed for me. But I want to show how much I enjoy writing her, and not tell you. We'll refocus, and come back at you in a big way when Kevin is back with us (and I'm not working as much). Thanks for taking this in the spirit in which it was delivered, Charlie. Both you and Kevin are great writers and I know are capable of giving us a defining run. Right, but I'm going to warn you now-- expect some slower issues for the next... maybe two months? And then when Kevin returns, we'll blow your minds. That's my statement of intent with this title. Finally got to this issue and there were some wonderful moments here. Like Riz, I was really impressed with Buddy and his family. Though I'm a huge Baker Family fan, so it was nice to see.
But the core did seem to have a bit of an attitude which sort of, kind of, through me for a loop. Still, a solid try and I know things are going to keep going up. I mean with the creative staff we have on this book, I'm positive it's going to soar!

Thank you for your kind words, Brian. They were a thrill to write, and you'll see more of them after our first major arc, which I'm writing right now. It's a blast. But the core did seem to have a bit of an attitude which sort of, kind of, through me for a loop. Still, a solid try and I know things are going to keep going up. I mean with the creative staff we have on this book, I'm positive it's going to soar! Keep going guys! That's something I'm going to fix. Every issue brought up will be confronted, addressed, and rectified. Even if it's not to your liking. I'll try my best, of course, as this series deserves the best-- I mean look who have come before! Dave, Brian and Don... I've got so much to live up to, and I'm hoping that Kevin hops back onboard to help make this title soar after this false start. |

I also want to thank Don Walsh for listening to me whine incessantly the past few weeks about how I have no idea what I'm doing with this title. Because I finally hit my groove today, and am writing the final issue of a three-part arc that will rock the Justice League's world... and it starts in December!
I'm finally psyched about this title for the right reasons, and I'm just waiting for Kevin Feeney to rejoin me... or, you know, surface for air some time soon. I mean, honestly, how much school work can one dude do?

because im a loser, i have only just managed to finaally read this issue! i had reaad the majority of it, but i have just sat down whilst off work sick and a little bored to catch up on some things!
i did enjoy this issue, majority of this was for buddy baker, i can see him being the everyman we discussed when coming up with the cover concept(where is the cover on this issue btw? it doesnt load up!), he has a lot of heart, and he allows access to this new league, he is for all intents and purposes us, and i like that.
i enjoy your interpretation of kimiyo here, the reluctant superhero, another archetype which will provide for some interesting dynamics aon the road ahead!
just a quick questions because i dont know the answers:
is buddy known to be a super hero by his neighbours? if not he certainly would be now?
and one negative comment: i dont like te big seven having their own smug inner league-i know its been expressed already, but i hated when te big three had this recently in the actual comics, it comes across as them thinking they are better, which doesnt gel with how superman, wonderwoman and the others were talking to the new leaguers.
all in all a fun first issue of this run, cant wait to see the rest!

Buddy is going to play a pivotal role throughout the first year, and I'm glad his characterisation came off so well. This issue, as you might have noticed me saying before, was a major disaster in execution, and I'm glad that the later issues have been received so well considering this is what we had to start from. Terrible, terrible. I'll check out the cover ASAP, I don't know why it wouldn't show up. She, again like Buddy, is going to be a massive force in Justice League,, and I'm glad to be able to bring more females into the fold. Expect some more women to be appearing in the series, as I think we need to work toward evening out the gender divide! It will not do!
