Nice way to finish what you started David! You wrapped up things nicely. I continued to enjoy the interaction between GA and Canary. I love how you make Babs smart, confident but vulnerable deep down. Everyone played a part and there was a nice blend between the action, character interaction, with doses of humor. I loved the whole he has a whole subscription line. All and all a great introductory arc! Good luck to the next writer!

Wow David! I mean really, wow! There was a lot of great stuff in this story. My favorite has to be the humor that came across. In a book like this I think humor is very important to balance it out and you hit the nail right on the head. The story was awesome and it really flowed well. Good job.

Once again an inspired and different story, influenced by many stories and genres but summed up in a way that makes it take on a new kind of... being. It was original, inspired and created story possibilites for future writers. Vigilantes own over the top use of violence, making him a deadly partner for Huntress and their uneasy, made-for-each-other partnership... Barbara being vunerable from acts dished out from the Knightfall piece of Bat-history. Striving to continue being a hero whilst still feeling weak inside. Zatanna in the constant shadow of her father, doubting her own powers (and if there's anything we learnt from the film Mystery Men is that you must never doubt your powers!)Green Arrow and Black Canary... Well... Their relationship has taken on a whole new level, with this lust between them but is there an actual love?
And am I reading too deeply into it? Who knows? Read New Outsiders

Reading Roulette's line, "the house always wins" made me chuckle, only because I had agonized as to what Roulette should say on the cover. Exciting issue, a great read.
One question, did Babs know Vigilante was Adrian Chase, or did he reveal his identity to help her?

Doc, my line was actually inspired by your cover! Plus it made for a nice dramatic moment when Batgirl turned it around on her.
This is one of the things I'm not happy with about this issue. I left it for the reader to assume one of two things happened off-panel: 1) Babs being the genius she is, she figured it out , or 2) After her plea for help, they came up with a plan that entailed Adrian using his secret identity, which he suggested.
Neither one is ideal, but I needed to move the plot from point A to B, and still keep it a manageable length. It's a flaw--- I'm not proud of it, but I can't hide from it either. Hopefully, the willing suspension of disbelief can account for me playing it a bit fast and loose there!
Thanks for the feedback (and for reading carefully)!

Good as always, but I have to say the way Huntress...reacts...to battle situations made me uncomfortable. Deep down, I'm a bit of a prude, I guess. But hey, it's Mature Readers, says so on the door, you gotta expect things like that.

Yeah, i doubt you're a prude Mrs Hilwig. This book takes things to extremes, and this is one of the extremes of Huntress' style of breaking things, so it's to be expected.

I've got to admit, when I first read it, I was somewhat shocked too. I didn't quite know what to think of the Huntress' new kink.
Now that I've given time to think about it, it kind of makes sense. There are people who do get off on death defying stunts. Makes sense that soemone might become a superhero to indulge in their, uh.. "pastime". Also explains why she wants to be alone!

Yeah... Adrenaline junkies and such... This little 'foible' could cause trouble for the team further on down the line...

I loved it. Great story... The dialogue was sharp & witty. The use of 'foul language' is mostly saved for the mob, which is fitting for anyone familiar with the Sopranos. The scene where Helena egged on Vinnie was perfect.
Helena's interesting method of capturing Adrian was... interesting. I would love to see those two partnered up more on & off the battlefield.
Oliver's purchase of the Casino was unexpected & great! I will miss your writing on this title & I cannot wait for Brian to knock our socks off with what's coming up!

I already told Idlewilder that the bar he has set for this book is near impossible to reach, but it's going to be a fun climb trying to get there. I hope everyone will enjoy it as well.
And as for Vigilante and Huntress... their story is just beginning!

Dave, you perv!!
Kidding. ;D A very well done and interesting exploration of the darker themes of sex and violence that can be present in fiction about folks who wear masks and skintight costumes and beat on each other (what? you thought all those Wonder Woman bondage covers in the Forties were on accident? ha.) The interplay between Huntress and Vilgilante reminded me a little of the Batman/Catwoman scenes in Batman Returns. Saucy!
The story wrapped up very well. All the pieces being juggled fell right into place and the various personalities of the group meshed perfectly even when it seemed improbable at first. The arena battles were exciting and the second team coming to the rescue was great! Very entertaining!
Can't wait to read more NO stories! Bring'em on, Brian!!

I'm in love, I really really am! I love this crazy Huntress because, damn, you really can't underestimate her. Babs seems a lot tougher, which I love, and the Dinah/Ollie exchanges here are simply awesome! Sharp wit, great dialogue...it's definitely amazing.

Thanks to all, folks! I'm really glad you liked this issue. I went out on a ledge with Helena a little bit, but I think it pays off for her character. It's fun to be able to explore the more mature themes associated with, as Brandon said, folks who wear masks and skintight costumes and beat on each other.
This title has always been the riskiest at the DC2 for a couple of reasons: it's a team book that is unique to our continuity (so no following from the DCU to attract, other than the fans of the individual members); it's password-protected, so not readily available for the average lurker (I really didn't think anyone would be reading this); and, most obviously, Mature Audience means more than having a few profanities sprinkled about the text. My primary goal was to build an audience for this concept (well, and to write about some characters and situations that interest me), and I am very grateful for all the attention you've given it. And you will love the direction that Starlord is taking our heroes next issue!

This issue was superb and beautifully conducted. I muss over the interaction and story this series presents, great work. One of my favourite things that has been presented in this series in the individual time each character has. If it were me writing, I would be so tempted to focus on Huntress and/or Black Canary but David, with his magic touch, gave each character the time for evolution which is splendid! The story line is a treat in its self! There were a few times that I thought Zatanna had snitched on Batgirl but the story twisted around and the outcome was exciting! David, are you the writer of any other series here? If so, I'll be reading them, you've made big fan right here. Like it was mentioned before, it was a nice way of wrapping your run up on this series. David has a complex insight into these characters, which made his run so perfect! It will be sad and exciting to see David move on. Good luck to the next writer and to David!

Thanks, Chesire! ;D I was trying to create some suspense around Zee's apparant moral ambiguity, but felt that I hadn't quite nailed it, so I really appreciate your comments.
Incidentally, one of my favorite scenes in my whole run, was in this issue--- the one where Lady Shiva visits Dinah in her cell, and cuts the neural inhibitor out of her neck, though the reader is led to believe the assassin has more sinister intentions. I like the statement it makes about Shiva, and her honor.
But to answer your question, I am the regular writer of Wonder Woman and JSA, plus the 12 issue maxi-series, the Immortal Legend of Hawkman, and the upcoming All-Star Comics Issue 0. I will also be doing two issues of the Flash (5&6)! I hope you'll check out all those titles and let me know what you think!

Oooh, okay thanks! I've never been a huge fan of Wonder Woman but maybe I'll give her a shot! I've never been too interested in Hawkman either, but from what I've seen it has something to do with ancient Egyptian mythology and mythology fascinates me! So, I might have to give Hawkman a try as well!

Really excellent issue. Definitely the best one so far. Thought the humour was great and liked the way that everyone got their share of the spotlight. Only thing I wasn't bowled over by was The Huntress' excitement at crime-fighting (it just seemed a bit weird, and it made me wonder if she was really doing all of this to atone for her family's sins or just because she got her kicks out of it).
On the picky typo front, "by particularly oversized goon" should be "by a particularly oversized goon", "you’re new boss" should be "your new boss", "her were a rodeo pony" should be "he were a rodeo pony", "throw a monitor" should be "through a monitor", "Don’t call my buff!" should be "Don’t call my bluff!", "gathered her into her embrace" should be "gathered her into his embrace" and, near the end, you spell "Black lightning" without a capital L.

If it seemed weird and disturbing, then it came across the way it was intended. I'm not saying she's an adrenilin junky, or that she can't get sexually turned on unless she's being dominated (or dominating), or roughed up--- but there are people out there that are like that, and as a Mature Audience title, I felt that this was the proper place to explore that side of human nature. While Helena may tell herself she is doing this to atone for the sins of her family, her real motivations may be quite another thing! She is definately a complex and disturbed individual, the proverbial moth to the flame type--- as the current writer will no doubt be exploring!

Wow I just read issues one and two together and that was awesome!I really enjoyed your take on Ollie. I have never read anything with Vigalante in it, but I may actually track some stuff down now.DC should support this site because this is not the first character I have read here and was inticed to read more of their books. Cool arc!!

Just read the first three issues of this series and absolutely loved it. This is a great team of heroes brought together in a very natural way. Batgirl is a favorite, but Huntress is wild! Loved her scene with Vigilante. Now there's an intersting pairing! My favorite scene in the whole first arc has to be Oliver and Dinah and Shiva and the Great Naked Escape! What a perfect meeting for these doomed lovers. Great writing, great dialog and great characterization. My only regret is that Black Lightning didn't stick around at the end! Hopefully, he comes back.
