I'm especially proud of this issue-- it's the first instalment of the series where I know where I'm going. The first issue that Kevin and I collaborated together on was cobbled back together due to input from other writers, and then it lacked something-- a spark, perhaps. The issue after that was an exercise in style, but this... this is where I think I'm starting to get a feel for the whole thing. I just didn't understand it-- I can write the biggest ensemble story with DC2 Nemesis (/shameless plug) but the Justice League title itself terrified me into submission! Well, I say no more! Jamie Rimmer delivered an amazing cover this month, and because the original inks were so brilliant, have a look at the Black & White variant edition of the cover Brilliant, no? Anyway, thank you for reading, and please, tell us what you thought of this issue!

After a shaky start, then a return to form, this issue blows the door off. Some ominous foreshadowing to kick it off, then right into some very nice character work with Firestorm--- not to mention a mystery!--- and the team coming together.
I'm a sucker for the "let's split into teams!' stuff, and this was fun. Too bad the villains were not your average cookie-cutter stock characters. These guys are savage, smart and out for the blood of the Justice League. Cry Havoc, indeed!
Batman cracking wise (re: Animal Man) struck just the right chord of camaraderie, though I suppose this is still Dick? Too much to hope for Bruce to quip?
And that last line? I honestly didn't see it coming. I really thought, given recent developments, the story wouldn't go there. But it did. And I have to admit, it had punch.
That cover by Jamie Rimmer is fantastic! Firestorm looks like he's in true crisis there--- there is a real horror about that facial thing!
Five stars gentlemen! "Black Colossus" looks to be like an epic tale in the making!

After a shaky start, then a return to form, this issue blows the door off. Some ominous foreshadowing to kick it off, then right into some very nice character work with Firestorm--- not to mention a mystery!--- and the team coming together. Thanks a lot. You know I've been worried about this series since #26 being, to be frank, balls, but I think we're on solid footing now. It's hard losing your co-writer, and then having to follow up someone's whose work you so very much respect (so much so that it scares you) and then being told that your grand arrival onto the title is... balls. ...Not that anyone did, but you know what I'm saying I'm a sucker for the "let's split into teams!' stuff, and this was fun. Too bad the villains were not your average cookie-cutter stock characters. These guys are savage, smart and out for the blood of the Justice League. Cry Havoc, indeed! It was the only way to make the issue make sense! The League has started beefing up big ways, special guests in #29 and we've got new members joining in #31, as well! And yes, the villains aren't your usual stock, and they haven't been for a long time! Brilliantly deviant to write, I have to say. Love me some villains. Batman cracking wise (re: Animal Man) struck just the right chord of camaraderie, though I suppose this is still Dick? Too much to hope for Bruce to quip? Still Dick. Bruce returns in #31, and you'll see the transition through DC2 Comics Presents Special #1 and the previously mentioned issue. Things will be different with Bruce back, but I don't think you'll fully recognise the returned Dark Knight when he crashes back onto the scene. And that last line? I honestly didn't see it coming. I really thought, given recent developments, the story wouldn't go there. But it did. And I have to admit, it had punch. Yeah, the stakes had to be raised, and this was appropriate, I think. You'll see how it ends up next issue, but I'm glad that the moment had the punch I intended. That cover by Jamie Rimmer is fantastic! Firestorm looks like he's in true crisis there--- there is a real horror about that facial thing! Oh, completely. Jamie kicked the cover spec in the balls and kept kicking it until it was his. This analogy got very brutal very fast and yet I don't care. Five stars gentlemen! "Black Colossus" looks to be like an epic tale in the making! Hopefully the next two parts will live up to the high bar I've established with this issure. I really hope so. Saying that though, I should really start work on #32. The one downfall of writing so far ahead is that you forget where you're at with things!

Having seen some early versions of this story, it's a testament to Charlie's skill how much this has really improved. To echo Dave, you really have done great work with Firestorm and it makes me jealous... The establishment of the threat in this issue was really well done with some great foreshadowing. There was a real steady sense sense of growing danger that payed off until the final scenes. My only complaint, FIRE HAIR! And that's your fault Charlie, because you're a bastard. Great job!

Having seen some early versions of this story, it's a testament to Charlie's skill how much this has really improved. To echo Dave, you really have done great work with Firestorm and it makes me jealous... It's because I'm awesome, Alex. No two ways about it. ;D But seriously, I'm pleased with how this played out, and glad it's entertained as many as it has... all two of you The establishment of the threat in this issue was really well done with some great foreshadowing. There was a real steady sense sense of growing danger that payed off until the final scenes. Again, glad that came across. This actually started life as a story much like the last one, with the mad science tangent much stronger than it actually ended up. But once I wrote that opening paragraph for another issue... I knew I could combine the two into something special, and the Extremists just popped out as characters I wanted to use, and had to get out there in their own imitable way. My only complaint, FIRE HAIR! And that's your fault Charlie, because you're a bastard. He still has fire hair, dammit Alex! He's burning white hot! I'm gonna' slap you! Thanks for reading, mate!
